posted a message on Slum Servers (The Evolution of the Prison Server)

    Picture from this thread.

    The Slum Server

Alright so I just have a suggestion for a new type of multiplayer server/map that has been rolling around in my head for a while: The Slum Server. It's a very simple concept and is in many ways similar to the prison servers we have all grow to love, mostly in the sense that the entire map is composed of a small structure. A slum server is, as the name suggests, composed solely of a slum. Ideally it would be set in a pre-build map but I can see slums being built organically but only if the area used was small enough to achieve the desired feel of urban decay and over crowding. Because at its core that's what a Slum Server would be about. In a slightly dystopian fashion it aims to recreate scarcity of resources and social anarchy combined with a densely packed population set in a less then ideal urban environment. There would be building upon building build atop one another. Some would be houses and others would be businesses, All but a few of them would be very small. To keep the populace entertained you can include all the usual tropes found on prison servers such as regen-ing farms (the regen-ing should be kept at a minimum to keep with the theme of scarce resources) and mini-games. But bare in mind, this is practically a city so when it comes to entertainment the sky's the limit! Don't feel the need to stick to prison games. Now there would probably be a class system in place, where in a person could buy their way to the next level. There would probably need to be a limit on those who could reach the highest class or at the very least a very high barrier of entry. If it got annoying to wait for a spot in the upper class to open up a revolt mechanic could be introduced to wash out the top level of players and install new ones. The few top people would probably live in a different section of the slum. Perhaps in a structure above the main slum. Because of this structure is blocking out the sky it is always night in the main slum which would add a nice effect.

So yeah, that's really all my ideas on the matter. I'm kinda hoping this idea gains traction because I'd really like to play on one of these servers. If you would tell me what you think about the idea that would be great. And I'd like to end with this little disclaimer. I have neither the creativity to make one of these maps nor the time or energy to run a server like this. I give this idea out to the void so that perhaps someone else might make it a reality. Now by all means make it your own. Tweak the rules and what not. These concepts are not set in stone. Perhaps give me some credit. :D But in all seriousness do with it as you will. Laters.

    IC Name: Jake Seether
    IC Age: 21
    Gender: Male
Job(s) you are interested in: Business Owner or Scientist
Character Bio: Jake likes to think of himself as the intellectual. His eyes are deep blue and always moving; giving a window to a very analytical mind. Although his rationality tends to border on 'cold' and uncaring. Jake feels he is a forward thinker and a connoisseur of all things. Unfortunately this causes his undoing when he wishes to consider his future; he just can't decide. He is leaning towards something in the sciences but his business orientated ideals makes him feel like pursuing something in industry. His moral values would place him somewhere on the neutral path; you scratch my back, I scratch yours, if not, I don't care about you. Jake has lead a rather uneventful life up to this point. His parents where very 'hands off' with him. Preferring he do and get everything himself. Weather Jake liked it or not, this is where he can attribute his natural drive and strive for perfection from. Jake also learned early on that to succeed one must be rational and logical. Perhaps this is what drew him early on to computers and science; with their cold, and uncompromising laws and equations. During his teen years, Jake looked for an outlet to rebel, as most teens do, regardless of their rationality. His friends introduced him to the art of freerunning and parkour. Jake fell in love with the sport instantly. Its use of angles and speeds made prefect sense in his mind. It was a living example of the Laws of Motion at work. Jake graduated from high school with pretty good grades and then went off to college. Now, recently graduated, he aims to make a name for himself out in the world. With ambition in his heart and uncertainly for his future in his mind he shall begin.

Role-play Experience: Well I got my start in roleplay about three years ago. Back then I mainly did forum rp's and the like. After a year of that I switched over to Minecraft roleplay, mostly on servers, and have been doing that for about two years now. I've been on a variety of server, mostly Lord of the Craft but I have also spent time on Assassin's Creep and two modern role play servers, Frequency and Sherlock City.

What makes you want to play on this server: I have been searching the web for a decent Minecraft roleplay server based in modern times for a while now. I just find the idea interesting because of how unique it is. Most roleplay servers are medieval or fantasy based. Not many are set in modern cities.

What is meta-gaming: Mategaming is using knowledge you gained OOCly (out of character) ICly (in character). For instance if a friend told you over Skype that his character's base was located at coordinated X and Y and you then had your character go directly to that locate with no rp'ed communication of any kind, that would be metagaming.

What is power-gaming: Powergaming is where you force an action into a character without giving the player a chance to avoid it. For example if you have your character punch another character and then inform the victim that they have been knocked out, that is powergaming. The correct course of action would be to say your character attempts to punch the victim and then go from there.

What is roleplay: Roleplay is improvisational acting done simultaneously with other players who take on the traits of their own unique character. One must never break character and always act the way your particular character would in the current situation.

In other news, I was bored and made a banner for the server, one that doesn't say we're a roll-playing server at least. Opinions?

*looks at pistols* *looks at Elite* *sheathes swords and takes the pistols* This is worthy of a reciprocal gift good sir. *gives Elite a Nemesis rocket launcher with AA lock on capabilities(if you play Planetside 2 you know what this is)*

Speaking of LotC though...Last time I hopped on, Salvus was under new management. When I first joined it, it had the Peacekeepers. Care to fill in the blanks because it really confused me.

*Graciously accepts the deadly rocket launcher* Thank my good man. As for Salvus, your guess is as good as mine. I play an elf so I don't really travel to that area of Asulon a lot. Plus human politics are always changing and power is always shifting. Its rather difficult to keep up.
