One word: fences. You could also try not living in a swamp. I built a castle in a swamp once. They said I was daft to build a castle in a swamp. But I built it all the same, just to show them! It sank into the swamp.
81 years? I find that very unlikely. I think it would take around 40 more years, taking into account the 2 years he's spent walking there already. Of course, I might be wrong. It's been a while since he last pressed f3, so if he was 5% of the way there about a year ago, he should be about 10% of the way there now, which means that the Far Lands would be about 20 years away.
