Dreganius' Livestream: A new world1 to shape!

Hello forums, I'm back from playing far too much Fallout: New Vegas (It's sooooooo good) than is probably healthy. Now though, my Livestream channel up and running again! I had some major problems with... Well, being capped, which is pretty hard with the internet we have here. If anyone is interested in watching me start up a brand new world from scratch and actually helping me shape it, then jump in and have a look, at http://www.livestream.com/dreganius

I should be getting myself a real good new laptop within the next two weeks, so I'll be expanding my stream from just Minecraft to New Vegas, League of Legends, and other games too, as well as messing around in Maya 2011 and Photoshop CS3/4 if requested, to help share what knowledge I have in these programs.

I'm open to comments, critique, and anything you want to say as to what I'm doing, or other games, or just general conversation, really! Come take a look and have a good chat or just listen to my querky Aussie accent, mate! xD

Just for those of you who suspect I'm only doing this to get views, I would much prefer a single viewer to speak to rather than one hundred thousand silent viewers who never comment. In other words, this isn't about views for me, it's about sharing my Minecraft experience with whomever wants to join me =]

Thank you ladies and gentlemen, and have a good day. I'm going live as of this post.

posted a message on Your Parents Thoughts About Minecraft
I bought it with my own money. That said, since PayPal requires a credit card and all that and my Debit Card hadn't registered with PayPal yet, my account was bought with the PayPal of an older person, namely my best friend's mother. That said, my own mother and his mother are best friends as well. I have overheard them discussing Minecraft, and they simply state that it's a much nicer game than what we used to play for it's much less violent.

My father, on the other hand, used to play Silent Hill with me eight years ago when I was ten. He thinks Minecraft is awesome for the same reason other games developers do, for its impressive generation, open-ness, and non-linear gameplay. That said he's too busy playing Rappelz to give Minecraft a go. -.-

I like your three suggestions. Here are my thoughts:

1:) It should only spawn underground. That doesn't stop it from following you to the surface, however, so if you find one, either kill it there or seal it up.

2:) It should not make any noise whatsoever until it is right by you, giving you enough time to spin around and have it freeze in your face.

3:) They should be able to freeze by looking at eachother. You'd actually have to watch the Doctor Who episode to see what I mean.

4:) They should be able to dig through basic blocks, like Wood, Glass, Dirt, Gravel and Cobblestone. This stops people from just building a wall around them and never bothering them again. Smoothstone, Iron, Gold and Diamond blocks, Obsidian, etc all are impenetrable to one of these though.

One of my teachers got me into Minecraft back when there was only Creative. It was fun. Then out came Indef, but I was addicted to Fallout 3 at this time and didn't look back to check on Minecraft. So, ages went by, and a load of updates, before I thought of playing Minecraft again. And LO! Alpha was here! I bought the game almost straight away.

posted a message on Other Shapes - PRIMITIVES
I support angular, flat shapes, and cylinders completely. Although I would feel that spheres are slightly out of place, for they are too curved for my Minecraftian taste. Other than that though, I support the idea of these primitives implemented into the game.

I'm fully in support of strange happenings in-game that don't involve combat. A circle of dancing skeletons that disappear when the player gets too close (inspection of the area may net you something neat, like a single diamond, gold ingot, or some redstone.) Finding dead NPC's in strange places, like a dead cow at the very bottom of a really deep cave you just found, for example. Moving light sources in deep caves whose source is always just out of view.

Though, less about jumps. I hate jumps, and often leave the music off because of the cheap jump tracks. Which is a shame, cause the rest of the soundtrack is great.

    Quoted for absolute truth.

Once I compress it all down into one texture file, it'll probably be around 100x100, which is a 30kb or so file. Not too much to ask for I hope.

May I make a suggestion? Perhaps a 64x64, or pushing it, a 128x128 texture would suit better. Especially since 100x100 would not be a multiple of 8, and may thus cause problems when imported into a game engine.

For example, if you notice, all the textures used in Minecraft currently are multiples of 8, as they are with most games in the world. Truly I have no idea why and I wish I could give you the reason as to why this is required, but all I know is that using textures that aren't a multiple of 8 tend to lose quality in compression and/or rendering.

That's some nice work you have there. I like the design and texturing, it's very Minecraftian. That said, how big are the UV maps exported at?

Well, if my Stream saved that as a video, then you'll see that I will be jumping up and down at one point saying so.

It felt warm, caring, and so full of joy. I truly cannot fully describe how amazing it felt, although I do believe that at the point of hugging a creeper and it detonating, we are flung into a kaleidoscope of new possibilities.

Right now, I am holding a Creeper. A Skeleton is watching passively as I wrap my tender arms around its green waist.
I'm streaming this, if anyone wants to also see this remarkable feat, on my brand new channel: http://www.livestream.com/dreganius. Here are a pair of screenshots for those of you who cbf watching the stream.

I think the fact that it can't directly see me is allowing me to get so close without it wanting go boom now.

EDIT: Yes indeed, that is the reason it's not exploding. If I crouch and look it directly into its eyes, it will hiss and flash. Luckily I can backtrack enough so it disarms itself.

Also i think that the people are right about it being sutble and mysterious, and also Notch may not even keep HeroBrine in the game anyway.......... But apart from that, I aprove :iapprove:

I agree, Herobrine should not physically interact with the player in any way. Perhaps, yes, indirectly he could do things like remove torches and whatnot, but as for fighting and feeling like an actual character, I disagree. I would personally like him to remain as this mysterious figure at the edge of our view distances, who we may never truly see completely.
