Does the lava have to be touching the water? If not, you could place glass blocks in between the two. Open fence gates would be another alternative, though they may cause some lag as well. Otherwise, if they have to be touching, you could try using a third-party program to add in the water and lava and make sure that they don't ever update. MCEdit or WorldEdit may work, but I don't know for sure if they will leave the water and lava un-updated.
Just as a little update, titles seem to be working just fine for me now. I'm not sure why they weren't disappearing before (I had issues with them in other maps, too), but it must have been some bizarre glitch. Don't worry about fixing that
Hi! I've just played this, and I did enjoy it, but there were a few problematic things I found. To start off, the titles don't automatically clear, meaning that the "Wave" messages won't disappear until you start a new wave, and this is just annoying. To fix this, I recommend setting custom values in a chained command block for "fadeIn", "stay", and "fadeOut" in the following command (the times are measured in ticks):
/title <player> times <fadeIn> <stay> <fadeOut>
I suppose you could chain this command instead, if you find that easier:
/title <player> clear
Also, it's possible to steal items from the item frames. Of course, any honest player would never do something so treacherous! Anyway, it's still a potential issue that would make the game much easier to complete. I'm not sure how that could be fixed, though, so that's up to you. I also think that clearing your own name form the scoreboard would help keep it less cluttered, but that isn't a big issue.
Overall, I enjoyed playing (though, honestly, I didn't defeat the witch - how much health could she possibly have?) and I do hope that more people download it!
I don't think that Minecraft will ever be completely forgotten. Maybe a will come when there are hardly any new downloads, but I'm sure there will still be people who play and love it. It's such a unique game and there are so many possibilities for an imaginative mind. Also, not only do we still get free updates every so often, there's a huge fanbase that's constantly making mods, maps, and resource packs. This gives a player just about anything they could even want in the game, making it even more amazing than it already is. I'm sure things will die down, but Minecraft surely won't be completely lost.
Mostly it's just what you like. I'd say that the best seed would be around your favorite biome(s), has many cave systems, and has nearby structures (villages, mineshafts, nether fortresses, etc).
Well it's really up to you, but if you feel like what you do on SMP (survival multiplayer) is cheating, then I'd say to play SSP (survival singleplayer). For SSP, I like to look up a few different seeds first, and if I can't find one I like, I just play a random one. Finding strongholds can be difficult, but if you throw eyes of ender into the sky, they'll direct you to the nearest stronghold. As for nether fortresses, you just have to search for them. Sometimes you can get lucky and one will be next to your portal, but often you'll have to travel a few hundred (or even a few thousand) blocks to find one. Lastly, place many, many torches around your house. That way, you don't have to worry about setting up and disguising a defense system and hostile mobs simply won't spawn.
I can see a lot of potential with this build. Though the idea of a castle/kingdom is a bit overused, everybody has their own style, and I'm excited to see yours. Keep up the good work
Build a nice house on the surface, along with various farms around so you have everything you need. After, build some huts designed for a specific thing (like enchanting or brewing) or add a section on to your house. Basically, just make a little village all for yourself. Try to make it homely and comfortable.
I've had multiple experiences with mobs dropping down in front of me from a cave above, and nearly all of them caused me to jump in my seat and go out of control with my mouse, moving it and clicking wildly.
The worst, though, nearly got me killed. I was caving and found a nice ravine with a floor of lava. I went to crouch near the edge on look down to see if there were any diamonds near the bottom, when all of a sudden a skeleton comes up behind me and shoots, knocking me to a lower cliff and nearly giving me a heart attack. I didn't go crazy this time, though; instead I tensed up, thinking that'd I'd die. Keep in mind what could happen the next time you look down into a lava-filled ravine.
