I've never played it well, but i love the game for what it is. It's artsy, it's refreshing and it allows you to become good at the game, thus you will enjoy it even more.
My bet is that they say the combat is bad because they suck at it.
The thing is there is hardly any combat. Hand-to-hand is more of an unlabeled quick time sequence if anything when you're not just running into blue shirts and punching them in the goodies.

Last night I also made an epic chasm in infdev. It was a good 24 blocks down in a 9x9 space. That's basically 81x24 stone blocks I mined. Theeeeeeeeeen infdev crashed. That was the biggest FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ever
