posted a message on Should I get a BlackBerry?
I have to say the new blackberry is very interesting to me, I really like the look of it. That said, I can't see myself using it. I have owned an iPhone 4 and now have a Nokia Lumia 900 (windows phone 7.5). I can honestly say I've hated the lumia in that it has zero app choices, kinda kills it's purpose really (not like it's a phone or anything... I mean who makes phone calls anyways?!)

I have never used android but I see myself going there next (specifically with the upcoming ubuntu phone, which is based on android I believe I need to double check EDIT: Nope.). After having been on an ecosystem that was so restrictive but had a plethora of apps (iOS) to another that is just as restrictive but has no apps I can easily say the next step is android. I feel blackberry is going to be the worst of the three because like the others have said it's a business smart phone, it's goal is to take all the iphones out of offices and replace them with blackberries. I saw a news report that showed many businessmen have an iPhone and a blackberry, and blackberry is now trying o strike the iPhone out fo that equation.

The call is yours, if you want it that badly go for it and give it a spin for 2 years, but think about it. Think past the very appealing looks and ask yourself: Can I play my games on here? Use my favorite apps effectively? Have the freedom to do what I want to do with it? If you can answer a yes to all of those than I don't see why you shouldn't get the phone. If you can't say yes to them all, and with the limited apps you may, you need to seriously rethink. I jumped head first into a nokia lumia after my iPhone ed me off for the last time (even jailbroken) and now I am stuck with a phone that really lacks. Windows 8 may be great, but microsoft lost me when it comes to phones for a while.

^ I have that monitor. Came from a macbook pro and a toshiba qosmio 1600x900 (17.3")

I have to say, gaming is leaps and bounds better in 1080p, even in minecraft the game of freaking pixels. I HIGHLY recommend it, especially since your budget has room for one.

It's true about the air going out of the back of GPU. Maybe a watercooling cpu cooler like corsair or another brand. It's nice to have directed airflow going out of the case. Maybe you can buy a shroud that can go on top of the case. I've seen one, just in case you want to mount the fans on top of there.
Some people don't recommend water cooling like Corsair since it's a lot of money and air coolers can do the job as good as it but sometimes people don't like to take up more room with a air cooler.

Also, that 670 is a bit expensive... I doubt you'll need 4gbs of Vram, unless you have a Eyefinity setup.

I try to avoid water cooling because it's pricey ($80-100), while air cooling has done just as good as a job. Do you think the zalman is good enough? I could always fall back on the Hyper 212 evo as that worked fine in my last build, but I wanted to try something smaller and a bit quieter.

I do need 4gb of vRam (or at least 3) as I found in my last build I ran out VERY quickly while playing a very heavily modded Skyrim. I was able to hit 2000mb of vRam according to GPU-z and I frequently saw crashing when entering new areas (meaning textures reloaded into the vRam). I was able to cure all of this by uninstalling some HD mods, but I would prefer to keep them all and then some that I didn't get a chance to install.
I do agree it is very expensive though, I've been debating a 7950 or possibly a 7970 if i can find one that's under $400 as almost all AMD cards come with a minimum of 3gb vRam if i'm not mistaken. (Any recommendations?)

I'll try to find another GPU, I'll give the cpu cooler a shot and I can always change out the stock fans or add water cooling later I guess.

posted a message on Can you guys point me to a good SSD for about 100$
    Quote from Andq1

Theres 40$ dollar off on the Samsung 840 SSD, which is a very good SSD. its 128 gb and 99.74$
I dont know how long time the discount lasts.
    http://www.amazon.co...msung 830 128gb
this is a veerrry good deal, if you live in the us.

The thing that scares me about that SSD is that it's write speed seems low at 130 mb/s. Better than a HDD, but I would prefer this SSD for $101 (120gb)

posted a message on Heat and Mini-ITX
    Hi!
I need some advice on this Mini-ITX build:

    PCPartPicker part list /

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500 AT Ball Bearing CPU Cooler ($31.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe Mini ITX LGA1155 Motherboard ($179.99 @ SuperBiiz)
    Memory: Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($33.84 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Galaxy GeForce GTX 670 4GB Video Card ($399.99 @ Newegg)
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (White) Mini ITX Tower Case ($79.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($109.98 @ NCIX US)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($87.99 @ NCIX US)
    Other: SSD (later on)
    Total: $1158.75

As you can see i'm doing a Prodigy build as I need to be able to take this to college with me in a year. I'm a bit worried about heat issues:
I want to OC my cpu to 4.7ghz and I'm not sure if the CPU cooler can take that.
I hear it's best to get a GPU that ventilates out of the back with this case but I'm not sure if that rings true.

Should I get a reference GPU and a different cpu cooler? In my other build (Now sold) I had an overclock of 4.7 and used the Hyper 212 EVO. Temps were fine, but in this case the Hyper 212 is massive 0.o

Well I'm not sure what they're price is, as I don't see it listed on their site, but I ironically JUST got my Ducky shine II in the mail about 10 minutes ago. Between the two, they both look solid, they both have some funky LED lighting going, and honestly I think which ever is cheaper would be the better choice for me. The thumb buttons seem kinds "gimmicky" to me, as I can't envision myself using therm, but perhaps someone else will find more use in them? Other than that I can't complain about anything.

posted a message on Mouse scrolling on its own
Does it have a ball for a scroll wheel like the old mac mouse? If so, take a clean piece of printer paper and put it on table, unplug the mouse, and then roll the scroll wheel around on the paper. This should clean it off and it will read properly (think of it as the old track ball mice but for the scroll wheel).

If that isn't your mouse then try the ideas from Xinverse

    Quote from Xaanos

No it does not matter as sense SandyBridge the NorthBridge does not exist anymore as a entity on the motherboard.
What you are thinking of is the chip set and listen to Fm87 suggestion on it.

Oh I get it now, thanks! I read somewhere that Ivy bridge had a built-in north bridge but that didn't make much sense until I read your comment. I will try for that z77, thanks guys!

    Yes.

Are you getting a 'k' series unlocked processor?

Regardless, if you are going Ivy Bridge you will want to try and get a Z77 motherboard. Not entirely necessary, but has the best features of all of them.

I already built my computer, but a friend has offered me $1500 for it, so i want to build another one and pocket the money xD
This time I'm looking at a mini-itx build, a lesson well learned is I need to be able to bring this thing to college. Another lesson learned is I need 3+ gb of vRam, skyrim heavily modded went over 2gb in a heart beat 0.o And one final lesson learned is that while i may only need 500gb of space, for $20 more the 1TB could be nice

I will be getting a K series cpu, I want to overclock my gpu again to 4.7, it makes a massive difference in skyrim (compared to 3.4). Here's my current build, it's missing a psu and a mobo, I'm still looking for both. If you're interested in checking out what I have so far:

    PCPartPicker part list /

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($169.99 @ Microcenter)
    Memory: Crucial Ballistix sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($35.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Galaxy GeForce GTX 670 4GB Video Card ($439.99 @ Newegg)
Case: BitFenix Prodigy (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case ($79.99 @ Newegg)
    Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 Full (64-bit) ($99.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $907.93

It's inspired by this amazing build: http://pcpartpicker.com/b/zqq
I won't be doing custom water cooling though, I will see about getting a cpu water cooler though I haven't look too much into things yet.

posted a message on INCREDIBLY URGENT! 2 Problems with first build, need help!

    1. The main power connector from the PSU won't plug in to the MoBo. It is literally millimeters away from clicking in but when I push it feels like the mobo is gonna snap.

It will, I just did my first build and it was scary to be honest. First ensure the clip in the power cable is facing the right side, then take 2 or 3 fingers and support the underside of where you'll snap the power in. Then just press the two together. It's best to do this on top of the box your MoBo came in, so you can hang the power port over the side and get your finger underneath easily. Again, double check the clip is on the right side, I made that mistake and could have broken my board, but I caught myself.

    2. I do not know how to do a test boot on my MoBo, I can't find the thing to do it

My board was the asrock z77 extreme 4, it had a button to do a test boot, but this video covers how to do a test boot (skip to 14:00) (EDIT: Check your manual first, it will be the most accurate source on test booting)

posted a message on Anyone Own A Ducky Shine Keyboard?
    Quote from FarZK

from what I've heard the ducky shines are quite good keyboards, I haven't used one myself though unfortunately. I have a Filco Majestouch 2 with cherry blue switches that replaced my POS razer blackwidow and it's great, if you have filcos at a store you purchase from you might want to look into them.

I'll most likely have to buy online, but I'm going to try my hardest to try the any cherry mx switches in person. Filcos was another brand I saw while browsing around, I haven't looked too much into them but I've read great things about them. I'll keep my eye out for one, and side note, how do you like Cherry Blue switches? Would you say they are tailored more for gaming or typing? Or is there really no difference?

posted a message on Anyone Own A Ducky Shine Keyboard?
    Hi!

For Christmas I got a razer death stalker keyboard, the old one without the stupid little screen thing. I've used it lightly so far and have come into a big issue with it already: the keys are sticking and become unresponsive very easily. Luckily it hasn't been a week since the purchase, so I can return the keyboard and I can get a full refund. So i'm now in the market for a new keyboard.

All my life I've used flat key - laptop style keyboards, it's what i'm used to using. However I find my fingers get cramped, tired and honestly in pain after typing an essay or roaming the lands of Skyrim for a few hours, so I think it's time to ditch this flat key nonsense and try something new. I can't try out any mechanical keyboards in store, as the only store near me is a best buy that doesn't sell a single mechanical board, but I've decided I want Cherry Mx Blue switches after reading review after review after review (along with tons of video comparisons).

    Here's the issue:
That has left me with one thing left to figure out: the brand. Das keyboard makes great ones I hear, but I quickly discovered Ducky Shines after looking on the Overclock.net guide to Mechanical Keyboards. There are very few reviews of the keyboards, can anyone attest to their quality and gaming/typing experience?
