Then you should turn `ofSmoothWorld` false, since that option actually has a (tiny) negative impact on multicore computers.
You should also set `ofChunkLoading` to be multicore in order to use your CPU capacity more (Minecraft by itself doesnt really use it to its full capacity even with worldgen being treaded in 1.8)
Does "ofChunkLoading" refer to the "Lazy Chunk Loading" option under Video Settings > Performance? If so, the only two options are On or Off.
Well I decided to give Optifine another go, it's not bad, but it has a lot of stuff I don't need and gameplay just doesn't feel as smooth when walking around, jumping, etc. I've tuned all the settings the way I think they should be. It was like this the other times that I've used it in the past too.
I have an HP laptop with an Intel Core i7 3rd gen, 8GB RAM, and a Nvidia GT 650M 2GB.
I am easily able to get 100+ FPS on a Vanilla installation, but with any shaders such as SEUS, Sildur's, MrMeep, etc. my FPS goes down to about 30. I have given the Java runtime 2GB of RAM, turned down the shader options, etc.
Is this pretty normal? I know shaders are quite resource intensive, but it seems like with an Intel i7 and a Nvidia graphics card, my system should be able to handle it.
You honestly shouldnt be using MCPatcher or OptiFine in a modded environment, both invasively modify the minecraft source and cause a lot of mod-based render handling to crash.
If you really want to have a minimap, use a liteloader based one, since those are not as likely to run into MCPatcher issues.
According to the LiteLoader site, the latest version is for 1.7.10...
If your not seeing a Forge version in the Use Version drop down, it might not have installed correctly.
I would also like to add there is nothing wrong with using Optifine. In fact, it can help the game run better.
I'm 99% certain it installed correctly. I'm able to launch it and it works just fine.
I know there isn't anything wrong with Optifine, but I personally just prefer MCPatcher for my needs.
I'm using MCPatcher with a nice resource pack and would like to also have JourneyMap. I installed Forge, and according to the official MCPatcher thread all I have to do to install MCPatcher on top of Forge is select the Forge version from the "Game Version" drop-down menu, but the only two items that show up are "1.8.9" and "1.8".
Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to get Forge and MCPatcher working together correctly?
There are plenty of people willing to offer you advice and answer questions... but no one is just going to do it all for you.
If you want to be able to run a server you will need to learn how to do these things yourself. There are plenty of online resources that are only a Google search away. If you get stumped on something just ask on the forums.

Faithful is probably my all-time favorite.
I recently found one called "Affinity" that I've been really enjoying lately.
Dokucraft Light, Sphax, and Chroma Hills are some other good ones.

Ok, I just didn't know if this was normal or not. Thanks.

Most of us found all this stuff by doing our own research...
The forums are for when you have already Googled, checked old threads, etc.

Have you even read that thread? The answer is posted there...

Change the "restart:" value in your spigot.yml.

This happens to me sometimes as well. There's nothing you can do about it, it's all on Mojang's end.
