What is a 'dedicated gbuffer for semitransparent objects' and why is it useful?

It's a shader that would allow shaderpack developers to render water separately from glass. It's useful because you want glass to act like a solid and water to act like a liquid, so currently most shaderpacks have to put the logic for both glass and water in the same file. With a separate shader for glass, shader development will get a good bit easier.

    This is possible.
The use case for them is a bit unclear (bitcoin mining?).

Raytracing. If you can expose the world as a bunch of voxels, and if compute shaders can access those voxels and write to a framebuffer texture or something, someone (who's totally not me) could write a somewhat performant rayracer for Minecraft

Every compiler (NVidia, AMD, Intel, etc) generates its own error messages in whatever format it wishes.
I could add a runtime option to save the final shader source in a file.
Something like "-Dnet.optifine.shaders.save=true" and save the final shaders in "shaderpacks/debug/".

That'd be amazing. I'd love you forever and ever.

Could you maybe keep a list (CPU side) of which lines in which shader came from which file, then parse the error messages you get from OpenGL to get the line number OpenGL sees, then map that back to the original file?

If there any way to have the console output when there's shader compilation errors point to the right file? Right now, if I include fine A in file B and there's an error in file A, the error message will point to a line in file B which doesn't exist in the file B on disk, only the one sent to OpenGL. Could you fix that?

How smart is #include? Like, if I have file A included in both files B and C, and file D includes both files B and C, will file A be included in once or twice in file D?

I've created a new shaderpack focusing on high-quality shadows and reflections. Check it out at http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2271492-dethraids-awesome-graphics-on-nitro-shaders

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE DRAGON COMPANION TEXTURE PACK DOWNLOADED FOR FULL ENJOYMENT. VISIT http://jotunstudios.com/dragon/downloads.php TO DOWNLOAD

This is the official thread for discussion and development of the DRAGON shaderpack, written by yours truly.

    What is it?

DRAGON is a collection of shaders for the Shaders Mod which brings Physically-Based Shading to Minecraft. This means that metals have specular highlights of the proper color and that everything is somewhat reflective. Additionally, DRAGON has variable-softness shadows, just like real life, along with fancy water waves imported from chocapic13's shaderpack. All this means that, if you use the DRAGON shaderpack, Minecraft will look very pretty.

    How can I get it?

There are five different versions of DRAGON, aimed at graphics cards of different power. You can find the most recent downloads at http://www.jotunstudios.com/dragon/downloads.php, along with a brief description of each. However, I'm going to post a few words of warning here.

All promotional images, including the screenshots you'll see later on, are taken with the "high" version. This is the version I expect people to be able to run. If you have a rather powerful computer with, say, a GTX 680 or better graphics card, you can probably handle Ultra. I have no idea how powerful a computer is needed to handle Extreme. Run at your own risk.

If you have a graphics card other than the Nvidia GTX 660, please post your graphics card and framerate in this thread. I'd love to have more data on how well my shaders run on different pieces of hardware.

Update: This shaderpack is completely and totally broken on Maxwell video cards (Nvidia 900 series). I'm not sure why and all of my efforts to find out why have failed. If you have a nice new video card, sorry.

    Screenshots

The moment we've all been waiting for. What does this DRAGON thing look like?

So, that's DRAGON. Download it, use it, enjoy it. Feel free to post about any issues or questions in this thread and I'll try to get back to you.

I hope it's okay to bump this topic... I really need an answer here, I can't play at all. I'm still getting the same error in 1.7.2.

Whenever I press any letter key (a-z) all that happens is that the inventory space that is selected changes, I can't move around at all. This is on single player.

I updated java and now everything's beautiful. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I spoke too soon. I turned down the volume and now I'm right back where I was before.

I just downloaded 1.7 today, and for some reason keyboard input is all messed up. Before I start playing the game, I can create new worlds, name them, give them seeds, change the controls, etc just fine. When I go into Minecraft, however, any letter key I press simply changes the inventory slot I have selected. I can jump, but not move. I managed to open my inventory once, but that was it. I'm on Windows Vista, 32-bit system. I just got done reverting my computer to its factory settings and wiping the hard drive in the interest of performance, all the updates since then from Microsoft have installed. The only other things I have running are Google Chrome and the Blizzard Downloader for StarCraft 2. I never had this problem before. Does anyone know how to fix this?
