This will probably just end up being one of those stupid things like 3D anaglyph that nobody will end up using, but will just be there anyways

I actually use 3D anagylph mode. It's not something I use 100% of the time, but it's actually pretty damn cool to see your world in 3D rather than 3D rendered in 2D. The only bad thing is that it screws up the colors. If we could use polarized glasses instead that would be better (but would require special hardware in addition to software changes).

posted a message on 12w50a new firework light?
I wish they would substitute redstone for firework trails instead of diamonds. Diamonds are way too valuable to waste on something like fireworks, but redstone is abundant enough that it would be a good alternative.

posted a message on Minecraft 1.4.4 / 1.4.5 is bugged with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    Quote from ThemsAllTook

Apparently the NVidia cards in certain MacBook Pros (dunno if that's what you have, may apply to others too) have a reputation for dying after a few years of use, and this may be one of the symptoms.

The OP doesn't state what model/year machine he's using, but I can confirm this possibility. However; the MacBook Pros that are affected by these bad GPUs are quite old at this point (well over 5 years) and mostly likely long since retired. My last MBP was affected and the only way to get the system to run in a stable manner was to disable the video driver. This will still allow email, web browsing, etc. to work but 3D programs and video will not. My particular system got to the point that it would simply reboot itself after a few minutes of semi-intense GPU use, but the system pausing is another possible symptom.

I have nothing running in the background...

Which version of Lion are you running?

I'm running 10.7.5 on a few year old iMac (2010, maybe?). 2.5GHz Core i5, 4GB RAM, Radeon HD 6750M. I was previously on 10.7.4 and didn't have any issues, but I'm not sure if I was ever using 1.4.5 and 10.7.4 at the same time.

I'm running 1.4.5 on Lion and do not have these issues, either in single player or SMP. Sounds like it may be a background process running on your machine, rather than an OS/build incompatibility.

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but it would be really, really helpful if armor would auto-equip when you pick it up if you aren't already wearing anything. Not only would it be a time saver in vanilla, but it would be a HUGE improvement for PvP maps like Obsidian Defenders. People spend SO much time just equipping armor in these sorts of maps.

I believe its because of this tool called amidst that shows you a generated world with all the biomes npc villages and stronghold locations. In there its called extreme hills.

Might not be just that one tool, could be others refer to it aswell. Its just that i noticed it from there ;)

Biome type is shown in the F3 menu now. I'm pretty sure one of the biomes is named "extreme hills".

posted a message on Jungle Tree Saplings
I had this same problem. Went a considerable distance in my 1.1-created world to find a jungle. It took me a long time chopping down trees and leaves to get 7 saplings to drop. I brought the saplings back to my house and planted one large tree and three normal ones. Harvested all the normal sized trees and didn't get a single sapling! Went all the way back to the jungle biome and got four more saplings. Planted four more trees. Harvested all of them and only got ONE sapling! I don't know what the deal is, but rate of sapling drop from jungle trees seems to be quite low compared to other species.

posted a message on Thoughts on the 1.2 Update.
I'm enjoying the upside-down stairs a lot more than I thought I would. Also really loving jungles. The giant trees are awesome (please make this work for pines and oaks too, Jeb)! I'm kinda disappointed in the villager changes. I was really hoping that breeding villagers would make my town feel more alive, but there aren't enough villagers to matter. Which is funny, because other people have runaway breeding problems that are so bad they have to kill villagers by the hundreds. I think the villager breeding code needs some serious tweaking to give us villages that have more hustle and bustle without either being ghost towns or overpopulated breeding grounds.

But, mostly, I find this release to be plain ol' buggy. Jungles bring my computer to a grinding halt (it's almost brand new and has 4GB of RAM) and SMP is still glitchy as ever. I hope they can fix these problems in short order.

posted a message on Have creepers actually been getting stupider?
The new AI definitely makes them different, but I wouldn't say "stupider" at all. In fact, it used to be quite easy to capture a creeper and skeleton in a pit and have them duke it out. I tried this in 1.2.3 and it no longer works. Hostile mobs avoid stepping anywhere that they could fall in and not be able to get out. I had to resort to using a stream of water to push them into the pits since they won't blindly chase you in any longer.

posted a message on 1.2.3 Villager HELP for breeding, houses, golems, wander off a.s.o.
    Quote from KyoShinda

    Every door supports 0.35 villagers.
So if you have 20 doors, it supports 7 villagers, so on and so forth..

I really wish they would increase this ratio, because it simply doesn't make sense. Most of the houses in villages are very tiny with only a single door. The larger L-shaped houses may have two doors (if they have a fenced in "back yard"). If the small houses have one door and the large houses have two doors it would make sense to have one villager per door. That way every small house has one occupant and the larger houses have two. Having three times as many houses as villagers doesn't make much sense to me.

posted a message on 1.2.3 Villager HELP for breeding, houses, golems, wander off a.s.o.
The doors being too close rule must be what's screwing up my village. I built a large inn, thinking that all the rooms would allow tons of villagers to spawn. But the rooms are across a 3 block wide hallway from one another, so it looks like they negate each other out? Also, the front doors and the doors to the bar are both double-doors. It sounds like those would negate each other as well.

So, basically, the giant building I spent hours building in order to boost population won't work for that purpose at all. Great.

posted a message on Will villagers ever repopulate once wiped out?
    Quote from GorgeousTaylor

I am still not understanding the OP. Shouldn't your villagers have gone inside once night fell?

I started this world in 1.1, after it had been announced that zombies would attack villagers in the release of 1.2. In 1.1 villagers do not go inside, they just wander off. Because I knew that zombies would attack villagers in 1.2 I decided to wall off the village to protect it from mobs. By the time I had completed the wall, all of the villagers had wandered off in random directions and were outside. Some of them were down in large pits or caverns, some swimming way off shore, etc. Those villagers are basically impossible to get back to town without extaordinary amounts of effort.

I went ahead and "cheated" and spawned three villagers in my town using spawn eggs. Even though I have 6 houses with wood doors and a hotel with 10 doors, the three villagers I spawned are all that I've got. They haven't grown in population at all, even after playing for over 6 hours last night.

Of course I support the idea for them to follow you arround when you holding a cake or gold barn, but still you can do it now even without it ;) .

This is a great idea! It makes "herding" villagers possible without being overly easy.
