I REALLY long for the old days of NNTP. If you youngsters don't know what NNTP is, Google it. Back in those days all the forums were crazy busy and your specific interests were all centralized in one place. It was the golden age of the Internet. Sadly the World Wide Web killed it. And today, most people think that "The Web" IS the Internet. So sad. "The Web" is (or was) just a small piece of the Internet as a whole. Back then, the workload of running the newsgroups (forums) was shared among all the servers, and nobody had to pay anything to keep them running. Then along came the WWW, and browsers, and everything became fragmented and hard to find. It was a black day for the Internet, and this is a black day for the Minecraft community.

The name may have been used by another user who then changed their name, which holds the name in a pool of reserved names. You can get in touch with Twitch support via help.twitch.tv if you have any questions about how you can access your desired name. That said, your Twitch name will not impact your Minecraft Forum name, you'll remain "Cryptopian" on this forum regardless of your Twitch name.
Good. Thank you. I may have created a twitch account a long time ago and forgotten about it. Oh well, as long as I remain Cryptopian here, that's fine. I'll create a twitch under a different name. -

I tried to create a new Twitch account but it tells me my username "Cryptopian" is not available. So I thought maybe I already have an account set up, but when I tried to use that account name it's not recognized. So does this mean I can't be Cryptopian in Twitch? And if not, why not?
Now I'm just debating whether it's worth the bother. I can still read the forum without an account, and I never have much of interest to post anyway. So I guess I'll just go into spectator mode.

It tried "Cryptopian" (numeric 1901639) and got a desert island with most biomes except mushroom island pretty close by.
In the screen shots below, I put a white wool tower at my spawn point for reference. The first screenshot is looking south-east, and the second is looking north-west. It's not too easy to spot in the screenshots, but there's an ocean monument right off the SE end of the island. As a survival island it lacks trees, but a quick swim to one of the island to the NW would serve to bring back some wood and saplings.

Remember the old arcade games that gave you 3 lives, or 5 lives, depending on the game? Well what about playing Minecraft on hard mode (but not hardcore), with no cheats, and the stipulation that you only allow yourself 3 (or 5) deaths before you have to delete the world and start over.
It's a little more forgiving that true hardcore, but still pretty challenging since you still have to be very careful about not letting yourself get killed. And it gives you a better margin for error in killing the ender dragon.

My hardcore method:
1. Stay away from caves.
2. First day, dig down and make yourself an underground bunker. (plant wheat and trees underground too)
3. Only come out in daylight.
4. At night stay inside and dig for resources.
5. Put down torches everywhere you dig so no MOBs can spawn in your tunnel system.
6. If your tunnel system breaks into a cave or chasm, wall it off and stay out of it.
7. Once you have diamond armor and sword, plus enchanted bow with infinity, THEN it's safe to start exploring caves.

Wow! What a terrific seed!
The village has a blacksmith with almost enough obsidian for a portal (turn the two lava blocks in the blacksmith to obsidian and you're all set).
And as a bonus, the librarian has mending.
There's an ocean monument right off the island.
There are both desert and mesa biomes really close by.
This would make a really nice island base with all the comforts of home.

Using the first few digits of pi: 31415926535
Spawn on a hillside with a village just to the east. Blacksmith has 6 diamonds!
Mineshaft beneath village, zombie dungeon beneath spawn.
Livestock at or very near spawn, including sheep right next to you for your first nights sleep in a comfy bed.
Jungle a short distance north.
Build a nether portal at spawn and you find yourself within 50 blocks of a nether fortress. The fortress is due south, but is not visible from the portal because it's partially buried in netherrack.
Other than having a nice starting base location, it's a pretty ordinary world. With a good nether rail system you can get to all the other important biomes pretty easily.

I believe the terrain generation has not changed in a long time, but when in doubt, try it out.

Seed: -3838902377305904489
Found this while browsing Amidst while answering another post.
From spawn point swim South-West to the island at -130,-44
You might want to reset your world spawn to the island just for convenience.
This extreme hills island has sheep, a couple different kinds of trees, pumpkins, lava falls, many caves to explore, and a mineshaft directly beneath it.
It would be a great place for a massive "fortress of solitude".

Wheat until Mumbo's automatic chicken cooker is running, then chicken forever.

First suggestion: Always use default textures when sharing a seed. Otherwise it's hard to tell what we're looking at.
A good survival island should have at least one tree, otherwise you will need to go off the island in order to actually survive.
Not to be harsh, but I have no idea why you think this seed is "awesome". I would suggest trying out some of the survival island seeds in other threads in this forum. Many of them actually are awesome.

A room 9 x 9 x 7 blocks high. I like to make mine out of glass so I can watch the blazes. (Edit to note that it must be 7 blocks high, starting with the spawner itself. Leave two blocks above the spawner so you have 9 blocks high in total. The pictures shows one with 3 blocks above the spawner open, but only two are needed.)
In one corner at the bottom, an opening big enough for blazes to go through, but blocked by open trap doors. The blazes think they can get through so they gather in that corner trying to get out.
Under that corner, a hole with a trap door. The blazes fall in, drop three blocks to a lower half slab where I stand and smash them. They can't see me, but I can hack at their feet.
I sometimes add a piston with a comparator timer to damage them making killing easier.
0 to 30 XP in about 10 minutes and fast, fast mending on tools, weapons and armor that have the mending enchantment.
Edit again to note that I cover the floor in slabs to prevent pigmen from spawning.

Nice seed, but there's lava right under the mansion, and after a few minutes the whole thing is in flames!

I have looked at hundreds of seeds, and probably one in 10 or so has sheep in the spawn chunks, or visible from the spawn chunk. It's not that rare.
Take this one for example: 621746504252863
It's on the border where plains meet desert and there are sheep staring you right in the face when you spawn in.

If you can drop them in a small space, say 2x2, then your solid floor could be attached to sticky pistons. A trip wire and a delay chain of repeaters could retract the floor just after the mob hits the ground and dies. Then under the floor you could have a water stream to carry the drops to a hopper.

Problems happen when portals are very close together and especially when one portal is higher than the other. I studied portal behavior in creative and was able to make a "ring" of four portals. Overworld portal A went to nether portal B. Nether portal B went to overworld portal C, and overworld portal C went to nether portal D. Finally, nether portal D took you back to overworld portal A. It was all done by adjusting their relative heights so that the portal I wanted was the first one found when it searches the world for active portals.
The way I build my nether hub and rail system is the first portal I make, I pillar up to almost the bedrock ceiling (I go to Y=118) and build everything up there so I can avoid lava pools and ghasts. I build a new portal at the correct X,Z and then, and MOST importantly, I destroy the original nether portal. All my nether portals are on the same Y=118, and they always link up correctly.
