posted a message on Why do item filters use 2 hoppers?

If 5 iron is "expensive" then before you build a sorter, take a couple hours to build an iron golem farm and 5 iron becomes very cheap.

The easy (cheating?) way is to load Amidst and look at the map for your world.

posted a message on Amazing diversity in this world!

    Seed: 8400773857745460292

An amazing diversity of biomes and features.

Spawn in at the edge of a jungle with a plains village just northwest, and a desert village (which does NOT show on the Amidst map) to the northeast (at roughly 50,150 or so)

Nearby are plains, forest, desert and mesa plus a couple of mushroom islands, savanna, taiga, extreme hills, the works.

Nearest ocean monument is just over 1000 blocks southeast.

Screenshot is from high above spawn point showing both nearby villages.

I second that motion. Amidst is the best and fastest way to find interesting seeds.

Load Amidst and hit CTRL-R over and over and you'll see dozens, if not hundreds of nice round craters. I see them all the time while looking for interesting seeds.

posted a message on Your most favorite and least favorite biome?

I was exploring yesterday and as I came into a savanna biome it really hit me how much I don't like savannas. That got me thinking about which biomes I really like for base building, and which biomes not so much.

I like having desert nearby for sand to make glass and concrete, but I don't care for having my base in a desert.

Extreme hills are fun to explore, but I don't like settling down there and calling it home. Too many nasty surprises when you break stones.

Mesa is a great resource, but getting around can sometimes be a pain, so not a good base location.

Jungle can be exciting, and I've built bases there, but it takes a lot of clearing and leveling. That's sometimes more work than I'm up for.

Forest is good. Lots of trees, of course. Once a clearing is made you can have a nice base in a forest biome.

Survival islands are fun now and then, but if I dream of some day having a large extensive base then that's not the place to start.

I'd have to say plains are my favorite location for a base. Especially plains with a nice view of nearby extreme hills, and maybe a desert across the river.

My least favorite? That's got to be swampland. Can't go anywhere without getting your feet wet!

Desert south of jungle, and mushroom island northwest. Everything is pretty close to spawn.

posted a message on Best spawn point

Plains, next to desert, with ocean monument visible from the spawn point.

Don't need a village because it's easy enough to cure zombie villagers.

Everything else, mesa, jungle, etc., can be reached with nether portals and a nether rail system.

posted a message on Ocean Monument design questions and suggestions

For my guardian farm I drop them down a shaft to just a few blocks above bedrock. They fall onto some hoppers and I collect the loot to make prismarine and sea lanterns. I find that a blaze grinder in the nether is much better for XP, so that's the only XP farm I use.

posted a message on Trees - where can they grow?

I grow trees underground all the time. Just put one torch in the block right next to the sapling and it grows just fine. Same in the nether. Once, a long time ago, I was building a pigman grinder that took loads of trap doors so I put a huge tree farm in the nether. No problems.

Hey all. Hoping anyone can answer why I have so many problems with villagers. Every time I've tried to capture a number of villagers they disappear. It's happened in a lot of my worlds and this time i was determined it wouldnt happen again, so this time i built a closed room with a roof and a small hut in it with a door plenty of light and iron doors to access it. no lightning, no mobs no water, no ledges, and no way for them to kill them selves as far as i could tell. there is a portal in there but im pretty sure they shouldnt despawn if they go through it. i had them trapped in there for about a week while i was working on some stuff for an iron farm and they have been content to stay put for the whole time but today i checked in on them and they were just gone. all of them. and i havnt been more than 150 blocks from them and they are in my spawn chunks, the portal on the hell side is enclosed, lit and has half slabs on the floor. is it simply that they went through and despawned? playing java edition.

Tl;dr: villagers are the most frustrating mob in MC.

If you have a door, then you have a village. If you have a village then there's the possibility of a zombie apocalypse.

Zombie sieges are in-game events that occur when many zombies spawn in a village, regardless of how well lit or walled off a village is.
At midnight each night (18000 in Minecraft time), there is a 10% chance that a zombie siege will be attempted that night. If a siege is to occur, attempts will be made each tick to start the siege until either a siege is successfully started, or the sun rises. Specifically, the siege attempt is abandoned when the sky light level reaches 12; however, inclement weather can allow siege start attempts to continue well past dawn, since it reduces the sky light level.

See the main article linked above for details.

If I want to stash villagers away in a safe bunker I always make sure there are no doors anywhere near them, so that they are NOT in a village.

Dirt spawns naturally underground, you don't need to only use the dirt on the surface.

You're right. I don't know why I forgot that! :) I'm currently playing this seed and having a blast doing it. I found plenty of dirt. But I did have to travel to a desert for enough sand to bury the ocean monument, but a nether portal makes the trip a short one. I've expanded the island out so far that the ocean monument is now under the island, and being turned into a guardian/prismarine farm.
