posted a message on 1.12 Ultimate 'survival Island' start seed.

First suggestion: Always use default textures when sharing a seed. Otherwise it's hard to tell what we're looking at.

A good survival island should have at least one tree, otherwise you will need to go off the island in order to actually survive.

Not to be harsh, but I have no idea why you think this seed is "awesome". I would suggest trying out some of the survival island seeds in other threads in this forum. Many of them actually are awesome.

posted a message on Blaze Farm Designs?

A room 9 x 9 x 7 blocks high. I like to make mine out of glass so I can watch the blazes. (Edit to note that it must be 7 blocks high, starting with the spawner itself. Leave two blocks above the spawner so you have 9 blocks high in total. The pictures shows one with 3 blocks above the spawner open, but only two are needed.)

In one corner at the bottom, an opening big enough for blazes to go through, but blocked by open trap doors. The blazes think they can get through so they gather in that corner trying to get out.

Under that corner, a hole with a trap door. The blazes fall in, drop three blocks to a lower half slab where I stand and smash them. They can't see me, but I can hack at their feet.

I sometimes add a piston with a comparator timer to damage them making killing easier.

0 to 30 XP in about 10 minutes and fast, fast mending on tools, weapons and armor that have the mending enchantment.

Edit again to note that I cover the floor in slabs to prevent pigmen from spawning.

posted a message on Small Suggestions

I wish I could place a carpet square on a lower half slab. I like to cover my village roads with black carpet, but then I have to make the steps out of some other material that doesn't blend in. (I use slabs instead of stair blocks for a more gradual slope) I guess it would also work if I could make wool slabs.

So either one would be good: wool slabs or carpet on lower slabs.

Nice seed, but there's lava right under the mansion, and after a few minutes the whole thing is in flames!

posted a message on Is there a seed that has sheep in the spawn chunks?

I have looked at hundreds of seeds, and probably one in 10 or so has sheep in the spawn chunks, or visible from the spawn chunk. It's not that rare.

Take this one for example: 621746504252863

It's on the border where plains meet desert and there are sheep staring you right in the face when you spawn in.

posted a message on Mob farm, how to kill mobs and flush drops without a hopper floor

If you can drop them in a small space, say 2x2, then your solid floor could be attached to sticky pistons. A trip wire and a delay chain of repeaters could retract the floor just after the mob hits the ground and dies. Then under the floor you could have a water stream to carry the drops to a hopper.

posted a message on Nether hub help

Problems happen when portals are very close together and especially when one portal is higher than the other. I studied portal behavior in creative and was able to make a "ring" of four portals. Overworld portal A went to nether portal B. Nether portal B went to overworld portal C, and overworld portal C went to nether portal D. Finally, nether portal D took you back to overworld portal A. It was all done by adjusting their relative heights so that the portal I wanted was the first one found when it searches the world for active portals.

The way I build my nether hub and rail system is the first portal I make, I pillar up to almost the bedrock ceiling (I go to Y=118) and build everything up there so I can avoid lava pools and ghasts. I build a new portal at the correct X,Z and then, and MOST importantly, I destroy the original nether portal. All my nether portals are on the same Y=118, and they always link up correctly.

    Oh SOOO frustrating, I agree!

Normally I am using Xaeros' map mod, so I can set waypoints, and get back to places of importance. But because it's a game, sometimes, I forget or don't feel like setting a waypoint. Then, never fails that I lose my way and did not write down coordinates, or anything. I hate it when I get that lost. But I don't switch to creative, usually I'll let the world sit there, figuring I'll return another day, and explore more. Most of the time it turns out I haven't wandered all THAT far and I run into my original place again. Maybe that's a phase in my learning this game though. I have been building bigger houses, and ranging farther to find unique scenery, in recent play.

The first thing I do when spawning into a new world is to write down my location (using F3). When I get lost I hit F3 and use my coordinates to find my way back home. I don't consider it cheating, I consider it Minecraft GPS.

Interesting that this topic came up, as I have recently begun building the Medieval Fortress, (book), and although I began in Survival, I realized quickly that with my limited play time, it would probably take me many years to complete that way. A few years ago, I had tried to switch a world to Creative, and either it was me or the world, but something glitched, and I have been forever afraid to make that switch, until I began the Fortress. I decided to give it a try in Creative, and love it. I plan to switch back to Survival once the main Fortress is built, and play Survival from there, as if I landed in this place that was already there!

I also decided to try going into the Nether in Creative. I hate the nether, am deathly afraid of getting burned by lava when breaking blocks, so decided to try switching, and found I loved that too! Went back and forth, when I found an ore I wanted I would switch to Survival, and back to Creative to make my tunnel.

The thing is, I play this game to relax, at night after working all day, (I am an older female adult) and if this makes it more fun for me, then so be it! Like someone else said, it's only cheating if you feel like it is, and I hope to eventually get to the end, and maybe this technique will help me stick in a world long enough to do that.

You definitely have the right attitude about having fun with the game.

posted a message on 1000 Things To Put In Your Minecraft World [WIP]

Make a huge building in the overworld that when you walk into it it looks like you are in the nether, complete with pigmen and all the nether block types. Maybe even a nether fortress kind of look to it.

posted a message on Why does this villager breeder produce 1 villager then just stop working?
    Quote from Hexalobular»

Yeah, it's hard to tell but it looked like the pool was too close to the "village", the doors and lonely villager guarding them.

8 blocks further down should be fine.

If there are any villagers by the houses they could be a problem since a village can be up to 66 blocks across, but since the villagers in the farm bred once and stopped it's more likely to be the holding pool.

To clarify, as I understand it the babies aren't counted in the population, it's when they grow up that they would cause problems.

A villager counts toward the population the instant it's born. Babies are villagers, and count toward the cap.

Fish meal from fish that could be used just like bone meal as a fertilizer.

Seriously, if you have a guardian farm you always end up with way too many fish. It would be nice to put them to work in your tree farm as fertilizer.

posted a message on When might you use cheats in survival mode?

Several times, in a brand new world, I've used /setworldspawn once I found a good place for my base, but aside from that I never use cheats.

However, I was doing a big build with bricks yesterday, and I kept running out of bricks/clay and had to waste a bunch of time chasing around the world looking for more clay. I seriously considered using the "Open to LAN" hack to jump into creative and just finish the build that way. I didn't do it. Not yet. But I'm still thinking about it.

It's nice to be able to say I built something entirely in survival, but once in a while, on a big build, it just gets kind of boring and repetitive, and I get sorely tempted.

Do you ever use creative in your survival worlds? And if so, under what circumstances?

posted a message on Iron golem mystery. What is going on?
    Quote from Mr_N_Derman»

I'm not sure but an Iron Golem will only continuously attack if the village rating is -15 or worse. If he's been aggroed by you hitting a villager or himself, I thought the aggro is reset after a certain time period; maybe you went back to early before. I'm guessing you somehow accidentally hit a villager or the golem. Been flying any arrows about at mobs that might have missed and hit a villager without you knowing?

Think Iron Magus updated his guide recently; try section 4 here http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/survival-mode/295987-village-mechanics-a-not-so-brief-guide

After reading the guide I think I know what happened. While I was monster-proofing the village I left a lot of useless villagers outside the protection walls and then just killed them off. I thought the kill-a-villager effect only lasted 3 minutes so I wasn't worried. I didn't know about reputation, so I guess I ruined my reputation. I'll need to do a bunch of trading with them I guess.

How did I play the game this long and not know about reputation? haha. You learn something every day.
