posted a message on Strange mob spawns

So I haven't been able to find the answer I am looking for through google or anywhere else for that matter.

I have a server my buddy and I play on. We have pretty much built an empire across the world, several towns connected by rail and roads, etc. There is one strange area of the world where things are happening that I can't quite understand or see anywhere else in the world. I believe it is around the size of a chunk or perhaps smaller. In this strange area mobs spawn at an incredible rate with enchanted armor.

So what gives? Is there something I am missing? This can't be a coincidence at all, as I've seen this every night cycle on the server for the past year. And the difficulty hasn't seemed to matter as we were running on normal for a while in the beginning but are on hard mode now.

Oh and for what it's worth the server is also vanilla, no plugins or anything and the affected mobs are either skeleton or zombies. No spawner blocks, no command blocks, nothing that can explain this.

So are the changes to CTM in 1.8 going to require a whole re-do of all the .properties files in the ctm folders? Pack looks AMAZING on all 1.7 builds using optifine or MCP - but neither of these are available yet for 1.8 and I'm already hearing that ctm has changed quite a bit.

There are no rules, it's open season. I cannot enforce anti griefing on a Vanilla server.

So... if your buildings get leveled, your stack of precious diamonds gets stolen, your horse slaughtered, your rad new ocean monument guardian farm that took hours to build.. ruined, you get stalked and killed - then I am sorry.

Here is a tip to prevent that. Just move far from spawn, hide your chests inside of a mountain or just underground with no access unless you break block to get to it.. just be creative about it. And don't forget to keep yourself suited up in diamond gear...you'll at least be able to defend yourself.

Does anyone happen to have an example directory structure and proper names? If permission becomes an Issue ill just convert them for personal use then. I've been maintaining my own John Smith's pack since 1.3.x something, when he just stopped working on it.

    Does MCPE support 32x32 natively?

John Smith & Conquest if you could. I'm still waiting to be able to add texture packs on my iPad though, I think as of iOS 7 it's impossible without JB'ing.

No Rules, but I do ask that you try not to grief and annoy each other players. Minecraft is 60,000,000x60,000,000 blocks. If you can't find your own place to build, you shouldn't be playing this game.

posted a message on Friend cannot stay connected.
Hello all. Having a delimma here that neither I nor my friend can seem to reach a solution on. My friend in question is the one who owns and operates the server, so he is an admin.

The issue that he is having has never happened to me or anyone else I know before, and it has never happened to him before up until now. We recently made our server public, and its been that way for maybe a week or so now without any issues.

Just a few hours ago he was still able to play on the server with no issues. Then out of the blue he is no longer able to stay connected without getting the read exception java error after a few mins of being connected. Immediately after connecting his client is unable to keep up with the game world. Nothing he types or anything I type will come through for him, no commands work, he is essentially lagging into oblivion as soon as he connects.

His single player works fine, and connecting to other servers works fine, but amazingly ours does not work. I am still able to connect fine and a few of our players can too.

After he reinstalled minecraft about 3 times and updated/reinstalled java on his computer, nothing still works. In fact, both of his computers go through the same error and even when he connected to a hotspot on his phone it still does the same thing. After rebooting his router and modem several times, the problem persits. After rebooting the minecraft process, the server the minecraft server itself is on, STILL the problem for ONLY him persists. If i log into his account here at my house its fine, even if he logs into my account at his house, you guessed it... the problem persists.

At this point, could it be a problem with his ISP or a local DNS, perhaps with the ISP in its handling of any perticular protocols MC uses? It would seem logging into MC has you going though mojang's login servers then off to your server of choice so is there a communication break down between mojang and ISP... for only his region of his ISP?

To sum it up, everything humanly possible has been done at this point. All traces of MC were wiped from his computers several times, Java was reinstalled and updated several times, all machines and devices on the network were rebooted at his house as well as the server and MC process remotely rebooted.

Who else has ever heard of an issue that literally affects a single human being?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. There has got to be someone who has to offer an explanation.

    Chris

EDITED because im tried and typing from an iOS device with auto correct...

    Quote from SD8Z

The text for the waypoints are really weird. Anyone else getting this problem?

On my older creative and survival worlds the text for POI's are garbeled, but under the mini map it's ok. On my latest survival island world the POI's are ok but the text under the mini map is garbeled.

I'm sure it's an oversight, Rei will probably figure it out and hot fix it. I'm glad the map itself actually still works and so do the poi's so no ones getting lost any time soon.

posted a message on ModLoader + OptiFine breaks CTM on custom packs
Just as the title says. I have spent the past two days modding/deleting files and testing results with no luck. It started when I wanted to use REI's minimap. I downloaded and installed the modloader, then that broke mcpatcher... so then with enough research I found that i'd have better luck using optifine. So as reccomended I installed modloader, THEN optifine. I even tried the other way around. I can ethier use REI's minimap and a custom pack without all or half of it's CTM, or no minimap mod at all and perfect working CTM (wuth MC patcher only). Both modloader AND optifine stand alone will break the CTM on custom texture packs. I'm using John Smith's 9.7 for example. It has some mods done to the ctm texture but everythings written correctly to allow the ctm to work so I don't know whats goin on here.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd love to use the minimap mod AND see John Smith's randomized textures throughout my game, all of them, not none or 'some'.. all of them.

Right now I would rather have nice textures and no mini map than a minimap and textures that don't work.

posted a message on Seed with lots of caverns under extreme hills
Hi all. This is my first post here and that post is about this seed I encountered while playing minecraft on single player. It was randomly generated and to be honest, I always do this so I have a fresh map I have no knowledge about before I play so everything's a surprise.

Anyway, I will post a few screenshots and coordinates incase you would like to explore this map for yourself. It's a pretty interesting map, I only found diamoinds in one spot while playing on survival but I can't remember the coords as it was some cavern deep below the first dungeon area that I dug a tunnel to blondly one night.

In most of these screenshots I have the coords up so I won't type the coords as they're already in the screenshot.

This first screenshot is of the plains near spawn as well as a mini summit to the east and some exposed surface stone to the south. Simple stuff. Coodinates for the plains are. X 103.48094 Y 70.000 Z -30.29989

This screenshot shows an area with a TON of cavern entrances, one entrance of which leads to a dungeon with a skeleton spawner, iron ingots and some redstone. X 167.18062 Y 65.000 Z 11.30794

This is just an overview shot with a couple entrances and a hole shown, there are a ton more entrances nearby. As well as a surface lavafall.

It's also worth noting that on the right wall in this screenshot is a large mountain with a load of cavern/tunnels running all through it with Iron. Most of the tunnels/caverns in this area contain a LOT of iron.

Here's the dungeon. It's so close to the surface that once I killed the skeletons and removed the spawner, I sealed it off and made a tunnel directly to the surface complete with an iron door system on both sides (surface tunnel and cavern side) and called it home. I now have a ton of stoves and chests down there smelting away iron/cooking food and storing tons of valuable materials away.

Here's another location with entrances to more caverns that extend miles and miles below the surface with abundant iron and coal and another dkeleton dungeon. It's also worth noting that this system is very dangerous. I encountered tons of creepers and hordes of angry skeletons that almost picked me off in less than 5 seconds.

Overall this random seed is really cool. Like I said somewhere deep below the first dungeon if you dig are some diamond blocks but you have to hunt and for weird lava rooms that are actually covered by blocks and not open, generated lava pools like I've never seen before. As far as villages go there are 2 and one temple directly NW of spawn but I decided to live out in the wilderness. I'll plunder them when the time comes. There's also a stronghold under the water in the middle of a huge lake to the east of the extreme hills that I will also explore some day but not right now.
