I just got the game today and I spawned in a valley between 4 mountains in the corners, I can see myself making a flying castle between the mountains, the only problem is it will probably look really bad as a first project

Everybody has to start somewhere. It may not look as good as it could if you had been building for a while, but theres no reason not to try. Indeed, by the very nature of minecraft, if it turns out badly, it's very easy recreate, modify, or destroy it.

This is the reason that the majority of people play minecraft in the first place. You have a raw power to create whatever you have the patience for, which for some people can be spectacular. Who hasn't wanted their own castle?

I still think that true minecraft architecture should embrace the physics though. If properly done, buildings that utilize levitating segments can look extremely nice.

Anybody ever tried sculpture in minecraft? maybe not like it is in the real world, but more abstract things. Like this, for example:

Its a small sculpture of a 3d uniform spanning tree. In simple terms, an inside out maze (passageways are solid and walls are air).

Does it seem to anybody else that when we speak of minecraft architecture, we are really just replicating real world architecture. Real world structures require proper support because of gravity and other laws, but within the minecraft universe, these laws to not apply (at least to most blocks).

With this in mind, were we true minecraft architects, would we not embrace the unique physics of the world rather than replicate what we see in this one? A real minecraft architect would create structures unique to that set of physical laws, their aesthetic would not be one of graceful support and natural curves, but floating structures and flat lines. We would not care about having supports to combat gravity, but would create structures unique to the minecraft framework, structures that would be impossible here, but in minecraft can be easily created.

    Just a curious phenomena.

    Thoughts?

I see no reason to say that circles ought not be used in complex structure. I find they can look very good.

    For example:

posted a message on 3D Maze Generation
Just wrote a Python (3.2) script that generates a .schematic file for a 3d maze. I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum, but it was my best guess. Anyway, it's still a rough, so it moves slow for large mazes. Also, the mazes are in 'negative' meaning that the passageways are filled and the walls are air so that it is possible to view the structure of it. Passageways are 1x1 so it is not navigable without stretching it vertically. The mazes are viewable in any program which accepts .schematics. Minecraft Structure Planner being a good example.

Is anybody interested? If nothing else I would appreciate some photos of the maze it generates in game. My Minecraft is broken right now...

    Thanks.

Download Note this worked on my computer using python 3.2. I can make no guarantees for other versions.

Here is a sample picture of a 20x20x20 maze as viewed in Minecraft Structure Planner. Note that this is just one possible maze, every time the program is run it will generate a unique one.

Well, that's not quite so. I have a working lavafall entrance on my base. The trick is that there is an extra set of pistons which "erase" the lava within the doorway when it pops out.

I can post pictures if you're interested.

Seed: System of Random Mathematical ****

It is case sensitive, and does not have a set spawn, but you should spawn near the mountain system that is of interest. It's coords are x=90, z=120. This is the only section I have explored, but I do see other similar mountains off in the distance, but I don't know how interesting they'll be.

I suppose the best way to describe it is a set of jagged mountains with a few floating islands. This doesn't really do it justice though, and I'd be best if you take a look for yourself.

So, this is the first seed i feel comfortable posting, so tell me what you think.

Yes, its an unlicensed copy. Chill. I plan a purchase soon, when I have the spare cash.
