posted a message on Animals spawning TOO FAST
I think 4J has the spawn rates on animals set higher to compensate for the fact that there's a much lower mob cap and breeding cap than there is on the PC version.

I encounter this problem a lot too, as there is a mountain range near the village I am building up. Try hunting at night, animals require light and grass to spawn on. I notice I get the occasional spawn-in-the-dark with animals here and there, but for the most part, I'm sure you'll notice your pruning will be more effective at night.

posted a message on Why is animal farming glitched?
If I remember, the PC version had a similar glitch around their 1.3.1. The most reliable workaround I've seen for livestock escaping is a 2 block deep pit, with the inside perimeter lined with water source blocks in a way designed to push animals away from the wall. This stops problems with livestock glitching out of their pens upon reload, and also keeps them away from the walls and prevents suffocating.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I simply use a square pen lined with fences and I only get an escape artist here and there :P

If anyone is interested in trying out the water pit:

    1. Dig a 2-deep hole as big as you want, but no bigger than 20x20. Let grass grow inside if you're making a wool farm with sheep or if you just want the aesthetics of livestock roaming in the grass.
    2. Dig out a ring along the bottom layer of the wall the whole way around the pit.
    3. Dig a 1-deep trench around the inside perimeter of the pit against the wall.
    4. Fill the ring you dug out in step 2 with source blocks. The ring of water sources will flow into the trench, creating a small lip of inward-flowing water that will hold mobs back.
    5. Place a trapdoor anywhere on the wall; open it and use it to jump onto and out of the hole, then close it behind you when you're done.

posted a message on Official MCX360 Twitter Update Thread | September 30th

im not sure how long its been since you looked at the minecraft forums bowwow but we talked about that a long while back.

Oh, I only looked back to the date of the posts that matched the date of the tweets! I was honestly surprised to not see a flurry of excitement now that world sizes have been confirmed.

At any rate, I'm now needing to save up for an Xbox One!

Is anybody gonna talk about how 4JStudios has confirmed bigger -- but not infinite -- world sizes for next gen console Minecrafts?

    https://twitter.com/...032214263402496

That's exciting news for anyone who fancies exploring! Even if world sizes are still finite, 4J promises that they'll be "a lot bigger."

posted a message on What do you make your house out of?
I like to try and experiment with a lot of different material combos. Before my go-tos were spruce logs + birch planks, stone bricks + cobble, and occasionally sandstone + stone slabs.

Now that we have a bunch of different sandstone and quartz textures, emerald blocks, and cobble walls, it's really fun to experiment with different blocks. I'll generally pick two materials to build a house out of (one mostly used as framing and roofing and the other for walls and flooring) and then use another block type or two as highlights. Spruce planks and sandstone houses with emerald block highlights are fun, and so are oak planks and brick houses with quartz highlights and cobble wall pillars. I also had a birch plank + nether brick house that I used mossy cobble + mossy walls for the highlight blocks... that was interesting contrast, I thought. I really wish I'd had the presence of mind to take screenshots before getting rid of that test world because I loved how the roof on it turned out, too. :(

posted a message on Favorite ways to gets XP
I used to be in the school of thought of "Never use a monster grinder for XP" until Anvils and Enchanted Books came along, and now it's a necessity for me. Granted, I'll always personally feel more accomplished by getting a nice level 30 enchant through good ol' monster hunting and mining, but my demands for enchants and repairs is simply too high to not rely on grinders anymore.

To that extent, I've discovered that there's a zombie spawner underneath the village I've been upgrading and expanding that's near (but not on) the surface and makes for really convenient grinding. The extra iron is a nice perk, too.

I've also discovered how much XP you get while fishing. Not enough to make you want to sit there and fish for XP as opposed to spawn trap grinders, but it's still an excellent bonus if you're getting fish to trade for emeralds with villagers, for example.

posted a message on Why do people want infinite worlds?
I'm perfectly content with the current world size, but I definitely wouldn't complain if there was any sort of expansion. It'd probably make it easier to get a good amount of variety in a world, so you wouldn't have to seed hunt as much if you wanted a world with, say villages, temples, and Extreme Hills.

I definitely get the exploration aspect behind bigger worlds though.

posted a message on WWhat ur favorite texture pack?
I absolutely adore the natural pack. The only grievance I have with it is that there's no smooth stone texture, but that's just a tiny speck on an otherwise beautiful pack.

    Quote from Sleighty

Is it just me or are emeralds a bit of a waste, you can only trade with them, and to be honest you don't get anything good for your trades. I got melon seeds early which saved me from looking.

No way! If you get a good blacksmith and a good farmer in your world, and can unlock all trade options for both of them, you can trade wheat for emeralds, and then emeralds for diamond tools, meaning diamond tools are renewable now! Not to mention, used as a highlight block for detailing in buildings, emerald blocks are spiffy as all get-out.

posted a message on why cant i get carrots or potatoes?
    Quote from Razgriz67

So, how likely are carrots to spawn in dungeons or am I screwed until the next update?

I created a brand new world for Title 14 and the only village in it didn't have carrots and nether did the bonus chests

If you didn't put a lot of progress into your new world, you can always try another one! I had a similar problem with my first TU14 map, there wasn't a village in the world at all.
You're stuck until the next update where zombies will drop crops, unless you're willing to drop a carrot into your inventory via creative.

    Quote from HernDiddy

Love the feature. It looks like you can't repair armor or fishing rods this way... :(

Not sure if this is a bug or if it works the same as it did on the PC... I watch a few PC Minecraft LP'ers and none of them really take advantage of item repair at all. No harm in reporting it as a bug to see what 4J says, I suppose. :)

When'd that change? Huh, I must've missed that when it happened.
I doubt that I'll ever really find it too useful except maybe when starting a new world (which I never do), but at least it's there for all those not-so-legal adventure maps....

Hey, only distributing maps and modifying save files is forbidden by the ToS. Building an adventure map, making a copy of your save file, and inviting friends to play while you turn yourself invisible in game isn't. Challenge maps can be done legit :P

Don't underestimate tool repair. Even when you have an uber-weapon/pick that can't be put through the anvil anymore, you can still use it to repair unenchanted weapons from your inventory, and the resulting repair can be enchanted and put through an anvil. It's amazing if you're like me and want to stretch everything out as long as you can.

You can trade with your villagers for emeralds if you have them in your current world, but as Danlisa said, for the actual ore you'll need a fresh map.

posted a message on Anvil glitch possible TU15 loophole
Being able to enchant an item is only a bug in survival mode. Creative mode allowed you to apply enchantments from books to any item when the Anvil first came out on PC.

    Quote from BloodyPhoenix

I assume that this is the same concept as putting two items into the crafting grid on the PC.
Is there a 10% durability bonus along with the combined durability?

I've been revamping my adventure maps since TU14 came out, so I've yet to do suvivaly stuff.

On the PC, it's now a 5% bonus, and I think that's true on the console versions as well.
It doesn't seem substantial until you start repairing a lot of damaged tools. From what I can tell from the wiki, that bonus is a constant based on the maximum number of uses that a tool has, so you start to get bigger bonuses as you go along.
And anything that conserves resources even a tiny bit is useful for challenge maps!
