If you want your rank to be displayed in chat, get a chat plugin such as EssentialsChat(requires core Essentials file) or HeroChat.
I'll echo foreverblu in recommending a permissions plugin. They make it easier to set up user and group-specific commands.
Though I use PermissionsEX, if you decide to go that route I could help you out as well.
I just bought Minecraft yesterday and wanted to play with one of my friends. I got everything working just fine with a normal server, but could not figure out how to set up the Super Hostile series mods. How do i play those maps with my friend?
I believe what you're talking about is the Super Hostile series of maps (not mods). If I'm wrong, then disregard this.
You can get any server to run off of any map. The trick is to change a line (just one) in the server settings. I don't remember if it's
server-properties
or
config.yml
,but the file you're looking for will have lots of configurable settings for the server. One is ip, one is motd, etc. The line you have to worry about in this case is level-name. For the server to use a specific map, the text in that line must be the same as the name of the map folder that you want to use.
When you download a Super Hostile map, I believe it comes in folder form. Ordinarily you'd just have to copy-paste that into the "saves" folder in a singeplayer game. For multiplayer, I'd recommend changing the folder's name to something managable, like "hostile".
Once you've done that, change the text after level-name to hostile.
If the two names are different (even by a space or capitalization), then the server will assume it needs to generate a whole new world.
If i was way off course here or if you needed more help just let me know
I need an instant protection plugin that when someone places a block its protected right away without admins having to do it all the time. So players can just come in the server and start building without worrying their house will be greifed. Please help. Can someone please tell me a plugin like this or can someone make a plugin like this for me? Thanks.
I suppose you could use Factions. . .if a player were to create a faction and set themselves to peaceful (with the correct settings in the config.yml file of course), then nobody could break blocks that that peaceful faction had in their territory.
Only problem is you might want to make sure that everyone's in a peaceful faction or turn off PVP.
That's nothing wrong with your computer as far as I can tell; it's a common bug in Minecraft servers when you're getting a bit of lag.
If you walk towards the missing stuff and give it a chance to load you'll be fine, it fixex itself.
Something that bugged me: try adding a "default= false" line to your second group. Not sure if it'll fix anything, but it is something that could cause problems in the future.
I believe you still have to set up a traditional server in order to play multiplayer. It's not hard and you can always use the same map file.

Disguised how? Had the same skin? If they had the same username, that is a pretty clear indication that you have a cracked server and in which case I'm not sure many of us will even want to help, being law abiding citizens and all.

OK folks! We have some big changes in the works!
Once 1.3 comes out, we're going through a complete server overhaul. Most of our focus will be on PVP, so you can count on iconomy and related plugins disappearing. We're changing the server name, focus, and rules.
But it all depends on when 1.3 is coming out. Also, the whole admin team has exams next week (sigh), but once they're done we're free for two months expect us to be around a lot more!

I really hope you meant "can't". . .
What permissions system are you using? Also, check the server log for any indications as to how they did it.
