Dragon Egg is the rarest item not including sponges. Rarest item not including the Dragon Egg would probably be the Nether Star.
Rarest naturally generated item would be the end portal frame, being only 36 per world.
EDIT: Actually, not including the Dragon Egg, I would say the End portal frame is the rarest item since you can theoretically get an infinite number of nether stars, but there's a limit of 36 frames.
I don't think the End Portal Frame counts as a resource, since it's impossible to mine.
SNOW BIOMES. They are completely useless!!!!!! At least jungles have temples and deserts have villages and pyramids and plains have villages... Plus i hate spruce wood
I would also take out skeletons. I find them more annoying than creepers
Where else can you get snowballs to make snow blocks? Or snow golems?
If I could remove a mob, I'd get rid of the bat. Those things are so damn annoying and have zero use in the game. (Note: I'm not arguing that they provide "ambiance" to the game; while I disagree that they provide ambiance and happen to find them quite annoying, ambiance is not a use for bats. I can't do anything with it.)
Biome: The ocean. It's too damn big and empty. There's nothing there but endless blue. Ideally, I'd like to have something similar to "seas" in 1.7.3, but I'd rather have no expansive bodies of water than these massive oceans. Of course, that would make it difficult to have the mushroom "island" biome, which happens to be one of my favorite biomes....well, I guess it would just be a mushroom biome instead.
I usually never wear armor, but I don't see how having the ability to color it made people want to use it.
The ability to color leather armor is quite nice because, in PvP minigames, it allows multiple teams to be easily identified while still having the same armor bonus.
Meh. all i have to say besides this. As for the weapon tier it isnt bad at all. Its a good starter when needed. How ever after the first 3 cobble stone, i skip the entirety of wooden tools, If anything its kinda useless. As for leather armor, there is one problem i have with it, it's harder to get that then iron. cows dont just spawn up the ying yang and its super easy to get. I find it much easier to get iron rather then leather. But im stupid and cant spell or use proper grammar, so what do i know.
My thoughts exactly. Unless I decided to spend days breeding cows, it's highly likely that I'll have enough iron to make an armor set before I get the same amount of leather. Also, except in certain circumstances, anybody who knows anything about the game will make a wood pick and only use it about three times. After that, there's no point in having anything less than stone tools.
Of course, there are the less serious uses as well. I've fought battles with my friends where we wore leather armor and used wood swords. We could have used diamond gear, but where's the fun in that?
I kind of like this idea. Now that we have ways to transport items, an automated crafting table would actually have a good use now. Perhaps make it powered by a redstone signal? So that, like a dispenser, every time it receives a rising-edge pulse, it takes items from its inventory and outputs them?
Oh yeah, I should mention that as well: I think the automated crafting table should have a small inventory so that it can store the necessary items needed to craft the products. That would make it a lot simpler to use, I think, and combined with the redstone pulse feature I mentioned above, could lead to some interesting designs.
Make a massive fortification system surrounding the perimeter of your entire base. Dig a massive moat at least 5 blocks deep and put lava in the bottom of it. Then, put signs over the lava so nobody can pour water on it. On the inside of the moat, make a massive wall complete with guard towers and other fortification spots to shoot at enemies. Make sure to do the wall 3 blocks thick, with a building block on either side and lava in between them so so that it's harder to grief your wall. Don't give it any gates, just solid wall all around the base. Then, to get in, make a secret door activated by a hidden minecart (sort of like but with a few modifications so that it doesn't stay open) or make it so that you need to place a redstone torch or some other key to open up a hidden entrance to a secret passageway into your base.
It's way over the top, but that's what makes it amazing.
I use iron because I have an iron farm and therefore a massive stock of the stuff. I also have an unbreaking 3 diamond shovel that I use for large projects.
Unlike for blocks that require pickaxes to break, shovel-able blocks usually dig really fast anyway, so it's not as big a difference between shovels. Use the best material you have available, unless you don't have that much of it, then save it for more useful tools like picks or swords and armor.
The first thing I do when I build a tall structure is make a 4x4x4 hole and fill it with source blocks. This is my safe drop that I use to get down.
Then, I usually create a "logoutivator" somewhere in the structure: it's a 1x1x2 space with a trapdoor or fence gate with solid, opaque blocks all the way up to the top. By going into the space and closing the trapdoor, I can put myself inside the solid block. Then, when I log out and re-log in, the game won't spawn me in a solid block, so instead it spawns me in the nearest space vertically above me (on top of my tower). Sadly, I don't think this works anymore....
If you spend the iron on picks, you can't get it back. If you use stone picks with a beacon, you don't actually lose iron. Do it the idiot way if you want. You are a complete moron and I am done trying to help you.
Assume it takes 1.8 seconds for an efficiency I stone pick to break an iron block, and assume you are using a 164-block beacon, since that is most sensible. Then the pickup time for that beacon is 1.8*164=4.92 minutes. Let's call it 5 minutes for buffer.
Now make a conservative estimate and assume you will mine about 100,000 of the 500,000-odd blocks within the area of effect of the beacon. Assume they are all stone. Applying the 40% speed boost from the beacon to unenchanted stone picks,
Excuse me? Are you 9? Below where I typed that, I quoted you, where you said yourself you bought diamond armor from villagers. Are you not aware you can also buy diamond tools from villagers?
You're comparing haste stone tools to normal stone tools. Compare it to iron tools instead. That's my argument.
Iron pick = 0.4 seconds per block
Stone pick with haste = 0.6 seconds per block / 1.4 = 0.42 seconds per block.
Excuse me? Are you 9? Below where I typed that, I quoted you, where you said yourself you bought diamond armor from villagers. Are you not aware you can also buy diamond tools from villagers?
Yes I am aware of that. Not sure what that has to do with getting emerald tools in vanilla, though...

We're talking mining here. You're not going to be mining even a fifth of the blocks within range of the beacon. It's safe to assume that you aren't going to be mining above y=16. Far less than 100 000 blocks.
Also, your calculation is comparing haste stone tools to normal stone tools is a bit misleading. You should be comparing it to iron tools:
Iron pick = 0.4 seconds per block
Stone pick with haste = (0.6 seconds per block)/1.4 = 0.42 seconds per block
I'd still rather use all the beacon blocks for iron picks, thanks.

Yes I am. Still don't see what that has to do with getting emerald tools in vanilla, though...
I used to like jungles only because they had the greenest grass in the game. At one point, I attempted to burn down an entire jungle just so I could build in an area that had really green grass. (Damn anemic fire spread stopped that from happening....)
Then, I found out that Mushroom Islands have grass that is as green as it is in a jungle. Now, I am currently working on replacing all the Mycelium with grass on a mushroom island. I don't need jungles anymore
Learn math then speak. It is faster, since the 9x9 beacon requires 164 iron blocks and gives you a 81x81x81 zone of effectiveness (531,441 blocks). Even if you are only mining out a small fraction of that, the time spent moving it is negligible compared to the 40% speed boost. It is trivial to get 164 iron blocks if you know anything about the game.
I do know anything about the game, so I know that iron is easy to get. I also know that, for mining stone, iron pickaxes are 33% faster than stone pickaxes (0.4s for iron versus 0.6s for stone). It also takes 1.9 seconds for a stone pick to break an iron block. Breaking even 34 of these means you take an extra minute to pick up your beacon (less if you use efficiency).
The only reason to use stone picks is if you don't have enough iron. With 34 blocks of iron, you could make 102 iron picks.
Stone picks with level 1 enchant (giving you Efficiency I most of the time). Bring along a fortune III iron pick for the good stuff. If stone is too slow for you, use a beacon instead of wasting your iron, diamonds, or emeralds on fancy picks.
I usually mine at y<14. Take a peek at some ore distribution charts to see why.
>use a beacon
First of all, you need 34 blocks of iron/gold/diamond/emerald to get the haste buff for the beacon. Second, every time you get out of range, you have to go back and pick up the beacon and the 34 base blocks, then replace them. Tell me that's faster than just using stone tools.
>emeralds on fancy picks
Can't make tools with emeralds. DERP.

Ever since I got an iron farm working, I have more iron than I know what to do with, so I just make everything out of iron.
Also, I can't remember the last time I went mining. Branch mining is tedious and it's damn obnoxious spending 10 minutes just trying to find my way out of a cave. Instead, I built a villager trading machine and I trade for all my diamond gear. I use iron tools for pretty much everything, and I have a couple of silk touch and fortune diamond picks that I keep on hand in case I need them for anything. As for gear, I have a set of diamond armor that I bought from a villager and it hasn't broken yet. I think once it breaks, I'll switch back to iron since I could build a house out of iron blocks.

I remember when I was a n00b. I tried to cut down trees by spamming the mouse button, and I tried to hug a creeper. Good times.
