shared hosting or as some put it minecraft hosting is slowly becoming obsolete due to the resources that servers are starting to use vps and in cases dedicated servers are becoming the standards due to the dedicated resources they give and much more flexibility as you can have a minecraft server, voice server ie teamspeak and webhosting all in the same place and one price.
I'm not so sure about Minecraft hosting becoming "obsolete", as many people just want a server that "works", with a simple panel solution. Running your own machine (virtual or not) takes constant administration and can be a learning curve for most people, don't forget a large portion of Minecraft players are younger.
That's like saying [shared] web hosting is becoming obsolete, obviously not. A managed, simple web builder solution with your email system all in one place is much more budget friendly and intuitive vs learning or hiring a system administrator.
Also note most VPS providers don't do dedicated resources.
A VPS gives you full OS level access, if you're using linux a common way to access your server would be via something like SSH. If you have no idea about that sort of stuff, stick to shared Minecraft hosting with a control panel, keeps things simple and managed.
The perks of a VPS, is because you get "full" access, you can run other software on it too (assuming you have enough resources), such as Teamspeak 3, and web server software for a website. Minecraft hosting is limited to just Minecraft (in most cases, anyway).
Perks of Minecraft hosting is it's very simple, managed and takes less administration effort. It can also be cheaper in many cases.
Hey! I'm looking for a server host that I could get a package that includes what I want (or most of it anyway) for about $5-$10 a month!
What I'd Like:
3GB-4GB RAM
Unlimited Players
Dedicated IP
DDoS Protection
FTP (And ability to change all the server's files)
Unlimited Bandwith
About 100GB-500GB of storage
Multicraft
Good Support
Good Processors
Changable Location (Preferably one near new york city or albany new york)
Enjin Premium
That's it. I'd want to get the cheapest one (I don't have that much money) I'll get whichever's the cheapest. Thank's for reading! Hopefully I can find a good host!
What on earth do you need so much storage for? Even with a massive map (talking 25k x 25k +) and a full dynmap render, you would probably struggle to use 50GB.
Just download the test software (a good one can be found here http://winmtr.net/ yes it is free) and enter the ip you need to test but if your are hosting the server then you need to get someone else to test it as testing yourself will give false results as to how long it takes only about 20 seconds
An MTR is just an updating ("live") traceroute... Network hops and their respective latencies have literally nothing to do with incorrect port forward settings..?
So you've made $320 on your server, and aren't looking for quality, rather, the cheapest thing you can find, that could easily destroy your server with lag, downtime, or just closing down and deleting everything before you have time to grab copy of the files?

What's your budget?

Perhaps you should first reply to the multiple queries / offers above? Seems like you basically ignored them lol.

Why would you want a subdomain from a hosting company? I doubt you can get one anyway, you probably need to purchase a server from them.
PM me details and I can setup a sub-domain off one of my domains for free, or you could use a service like https://noip.com/

Are you looking for hosting with a subdomain add-on, or just a subdomain for an already hosted server?

How old is your computer/GPU? I believe this has something to do with it, you may need a new computer to play 1.7.4+.

Running an MTR is pointless, aside; mind PMing me a screenshot of your portforward settings? I'll take a look at them.

This thread is incredibly old; requesting lock.

Your "10GB" shared plan actually costs more than the monthly price of the whole machine..?

You get my point; Invest in a quality host.

A server like this would require a minimum of 1GB, but even that's pushing it.

You brought an OVH VPS, no wonder. Surprised it worked fine for a week.

Thats how old the thread is. Can we not bump it?
If you have a similar problem, It's best to create your own (detailed) thread.
