I've been playing Minecraft for a long time now, and what's really been frustrating me is the lack of mods that really focus on the aesthetic sides of an economy. There are plenty mods that introduce money into Minecraft or a basic trading system with NPC's, but most of those entail opening up a menu and scrolling until you find the thing you want, are not very customizable and are often limited to selling a few items at a time. On the opposite end, there are also mods that let you make really pretty stores but they don't do anything. What I want to do is bring both those things together and make a mod that feels and functions like a store, while still keeping all the customizing Minecraft brings. Unfortunately, I am not a coder, nor do I have the time or money right now to learn, so the best I can do right now is offer up my idea and hope that someone is interested enough to take it up. I can also help with textures and models if that something someone needs, but that's not entirely necessary for this mod. Anyway, here's my mod idea and hopefully, someone wants to adopt this poor boy.
Blocks: Shop Block, Display Tables
How it works
1) Craft a shop block, catalog and some chests
2) Place whatever items you want to sell in the chests
3) right click chests with the catalog and the catalog will save their locations
4) right click the shop block with the catalog and now your chests are linked with the shop block
5) open up the block and select your preferences
Shop Block Gui:
Catalogue: this will list all of the item your chest. There will be a side the lets you decide the currency you want to use in your store as well as a plus-minus sign under each item to help you set a price for the item. There also be an option for whether you want to be able to sell items indefinitely or have things go out of stock.
Shop Keeper: This lets you spawn an NPC to be your shopkeeper, it can be a villager or a cow or a creeper, whatever. Customers can right click on the NPC to see a list of your wares and your prices and make a transaction. (If possible, shop owners can have the NPC say certain things when the transaction is done)
Menu: this lets you decide what items the shopkeeper can show as well as the name of the store.
So once you are done with that, wallah! You got a functioning store. But wait! That's not the end because all you really got is just a few chests and a talking cow! When does the aesthetic come in? Well right about now with Display Tables!
Display tables can be one block or many blocks depending on how far this mod goes. Basically, they function as chests but unlike boring old chest that you constantly have to open just to see what's inside, these show all your items all pretty like for any passerby to admire. They can be tables or shelves, armor stands, and crates, anything that you would put items on if you were in a real shop. And not only do they work to show customers what you have but they can also show other info as well. By right-clicking them you can open up a GUI that contains two tabs an inventory and a menu. The inventory will contain all your items and the menu will let you adjust what want to see the display. You have the item display its name, it's price, if it's enchanted. If it a weapon you can also show simple stats like it damage points or durability. Armor and food can show the same. Basically, anything you want that lets your customer come up with a smart and well-informed choice about their purchase.
I have more ideas for this mod, but those are just icing on what I think would be a really cool cake. It would be really great if this got some support, otherwise, I'll have to wait until I'm done with school to start working on this. Anyway, thank you for making it this far! I might come back to put some pictures to help visualize my idea better.
