Jun 6, 2011This explains the rushed, un-tested updates. Notch simply stopped giving a ****, his sales have been dropping on PC so he's moving on to other platforms to get more money to go on vacation.Posted in: Minecraft News

Yes, definitely. Taking 3 months to add in a few new block types and 1 simple enemy, while breaking a bunch of stuff without fixing much else doesn't sound like work to me.
And if they are actually working on a full-time schedule, the level of incompetence is just sad. Saying that they're just lazy would actually be more respectful in that case.
ah got it, being trolled....

Incoming, NDL, brace yourselves, some of them are already in.
We have the reasoning but sadly, as much as you may try, you cannot reason with circlejerks.
Jan 26, 2011Guys, stop replying to Ronjoe. He's the "say something stupid, realise self stupidity, pass of as troll" aka "Jokes on them, I'm only pretending to be stupid" type.Posted in: Discussion
The more you reply to him, the more you derail the thread.
Jan 26, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from Ronjoe »Look, when Notch sees complaining, he feels less motivated. When this happens, he makes less. When he makes less, complaining increases. (etc. ad infinitum) It's a vicious cycle that NEEDS to end somewhere, and it should happen in these forums.
It's going to end at the slots in Vegas
Jan 26, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from Ronjoe »He has planned and made effort, but NOT ONCE has he promised. There is a reason that Notch is ignoring the majority of the community, and it can be found in threads like this.
So he's ignoring the concerns of his customers and not putting it to rest? One more to add to the list, OP
Jan 26, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from Janne »"full time" = 40 hours per week, minus five weeks paid vacation per year. That's what you're entitled to from Notch or from anybody at Mojäng.
If he wants to spend two weeks in January celebrating his mothers birthday and going to Vegas then that's his call; me, I would have aimed for south Asia myself but to each his own, right?
He's already taken well over 8 weeks off these past 365 days (Valve, Cons, holidays, 'rest weeks' etc.) and he definitely spends less than 40 hours a week doing work. If he was working full time, you'd notice. It doesn't take more than a day of full time to release a small update made by some other person.
Quote from VinexNike »He's probably using his $$$ to improve Minecraft or else how would Minecraft improve? <.
That's the point, he's clearly not putting enough money into Minecraft and Minecraft is hardly improving.
Quote from Ronjoe »Quote from Khashul »Quote from Ronjoe »Notch has no obligation to anyone. Period. Rather than make a long rant elaborating on this, I will say one thing,
IF YOU DON'T LIKE MINECRAFT OR ITS MANAGEMENT, SHUT UP AND LEAVE.
Except all the people that bought his game on promises. Idiot.
He sold you a game as-is, only promising to give you all future versions. There is no obligation to submit to your whims here, nor is there any promise to even create future versions in the first place. All he has promised is that he will give them to you if/when they're made.
Wrong. If you read the thread you'd notice that most pre-alpha customers bought the game with the promise of a final release, money going towards development and allowing him to go full-time. The 'as-is' crap only started when he decided to make a company so doesn't affect past customers.
Jan 26, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from squeakywaffle »A few things:
1) I have already gotten my money's worth out of Minecraft, many times over. I paid a couple of dollars for a game that has already given me more enjoyment than a lot of things I spent many times more on. If you're posting here, I'm betting that's also the case for you. Or, maybe you just like to complain.
2) Coding is hard, it takes a long time, and the devil's in the details. Of course, I'm sure everyone here is a master indie game coder who knows how wrong I am about that.
3) Notch doesn't owe us anything. We bought his game because we wanted to play it, and we made him rich but that doesn't mean he made us poor... unless you're a child who spent your allowance on it. If that's the case, my condolences. As it is, I'm just glad I gave my money to someone who actually made something cool, as opposed to the corporate dickheads who usually manage to take it from me.
I think the only valid major complaint here is the server downtime, which apparently makes it difficult or impossible to play the game we purchased. That's not cool.
"I just registered and didn't read the thread."
Jan 26, 2011Posted in: DiscussionQuote from mothball »Let him have his fun. As soon as he implements the mod interface, he'll be obsolete.
If we let him have his fun, where does the work time required to make the mod interface come in?
Quote from WingOfWar »This thread angers me.
I don't think people get what he's doing. Notch, the person making a NEW game, is working on something else. Minecraft, witch isn't a NEW game, isn't his focus. Saying he should focus on this because you said so, is just being damn selfish.
I do admit, he should stop taking all these breaks. It's getting pretty annoying.
Minecraft isn't a new game, nor is it old. It's a work in progress. If you actually read the previous posts, maybe you'd understand and not get angry for no reason and start calling us selfish.
Quote from WingOfWar »Still, it takes a long time to code. A long, long, long time. It would take 20 hours just to make 1 level of Pacman with 2 scripted ghosts, and no player, UI, or anything.
That was a long, long time ago. Java is made to be friendly and easy to work with. You can make a working Pacman clone in way less than half a day using Java if you know what you're doing.
Have you seen what the modding community has done with Minecraft these past months?
Jan 26, 2011Remember back in April-ish when he said he was going to quit his job and work on Minecraft full-time?Posted in: Discussion
What's full-time again? 6 hours right? 5 days a week? Then you have annual leave which is around a month or so. Notch hasn't delivered the 'full-time' promise even though he said he was finally working on Minecraft full-time. He's probably had 4 months-worth of annual leave already and it's not even a year.
I bought the game when he said he'd soon be working full-time on it and that the funds were going into its development. How is going on holiday every 2 weeks contributing to the development? Oh right, it was changed without any sort of warning to his current customers that now the game is bought 'as-is' with other updates as bonuses even though that 'as-is' has forcibly been changed with broken so-called bonuses and other crap.
Now whenever I criticise the guy's workload, his no-reason defence league butts in claiming we got our money's worth and that Notch has a life. Yes he has a life, part of life is to work, he's not retired.
A friend of mine told me never to buy WIP indie games because they have no obligations. They can disappear, cancel and leave the project any time they want. Many people probably have this in the back of their minds now after paying for Minecraft. I wish I headed his advice before, now all he does is say "I told you so".
Money and fame makes people greedy. Notch is living evidence of that.
