The Curse of the Rainbow Pedestal

Explore the 8 Cities in the Rainbow Kingdom to learn of the the adventures that await you beyond their safety...

Will you find the 8 Temples and return the amulets to their rightful place on the Rainbow Pedestal?

Featuring amazingly unique cities for each biome and landscape! This map will have you exploring its farthest reaches to discover the many secrets it holds...

    Version Test 1.0 Link:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?nfym76w6trgivjm

    Let's Plays:

First one! wonderful let's play made by my homie Bair, check it out if you want a small taste of what's coming at you in the map!

    Rules:

    • You may only place torches, ladders, and spider webs (which have been renamed sticky webs in the game)
    • You may only craft armor (from materials you find in chests) and torches and cook food
    • You may not swim long distances; this means you need a boat or a bridge to cross bodies of water you come across in the game, Oceans Rivers and big lakes all apply
    • You may destroy clay blocks with a shovel (any kind) and cobblestone blocks with a pickaxe (any kind), but these are the only blocks you may destroy-keep an eye out for these in random places as they usually conceal a passage or secret!
    • When you enter a city, turn the render distance to "normal", when you leave a city and are in the wild, set render distance to "near". (you may be changing this a lot)
    • Read all signs you come across! the plot can only be discovered by exploring the towns thoroughly looking for hidden chests and signs that have clues on them as to where you will find the Temples.
    • Paths are the main thoroughfares, but you are not required to stay on them, sometimes important locations are in fact off the path and require some hunting to find...But in general the paths lead you directly from city to city.

This test version only includes the first city and temple completely ready for you to play through with chests and signs. Three other towns are finished, but without signs and chests, so feel free to explore/settle them but they will be fully added later.

I recommend playing the map on either Misa's realistic 64x64
    link: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/69354-64x11-misas-realistic-texture-pack-updated-9jan/

or this custom painterly I made for those who want to play a sweet 16x16 look for the world:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?eowcggz5x8ar1oj

    Example:

    Places of Interest:

    • Victoria:
    • The starting city, a brick town built on the edge of a huge swampy lake. This is the largest city so far, and the most complete at the moment, so in this test version be sure and check EVERYWHERE for all the hidden secrets in this town, and signs you read will eventually drop you hints and eventually lead you to a corresponding Forest Temple that will be worth leaving the town to find and explore (more below). There are about 6 paths leaving the city in various directions, so you may find yourself returning once in a while to come back and explore the other paths later.

      Things to do in Victoria:

    • Try and find all 40 of the hidden bricks!
    • Explore the dam!
    • get a room at the local inn
    • find the golden sword
    • find the bow and make some arrows
    • Buy the empty Mansion!
    • Find all the hidden rooms, chests, armor, tools and goodies around the town.
    • there are tools and food and other goodies to find also... check everywhere!

      The narrow corner streets:

      Arbor Square at night:

There seems to be something wrong with the Victoria Dam...

Mushroom River and The Pumpkin Covered Bridge:

    • Phoenecia:
    • The Fortified Sand Sultanate. I am still finishing up interiors in this town, so about 60% done. A confusing and angular town that is easy to get lost in. The giant palace at the center of the town is a good landmark to use for bearings. Be sure and practice your jumping skills along the rooftops, it may be rewarding! The Temple for this town is in the farthest reaches of the Desert Labyrinth, so be sure to bring a compass...

      Inside the walls:

The entrance to the Labyrinth Canyons:

      Lost in the Canyons:

    • Verduna:
    • The Rainforest Pagoda Port. Located on Tiger Lily Lake in a massive rainforest and swamp, this sprawling village will have you criss-crossing the elevated walkways and hoisting off from the docks with all the canals and dense tree cover. Be sure and explore the boat and the library in this town...The Temple for Verduna will be out in the foggy canopy, away from the cozy lanterns and fire pits... hope you have an umbrella...

      Under the canopy:

    • Nimbia:
    • not a temple town, but definitely worth passing through on your adventures-Windmills in the clouds power the humble cliff dwelling town clinging out over a huge lake... there are only two tiny ways into the city, so follow the path or try to head out on your own!

      Entrance

    • Temple of the Canyon Labyrinth (I may change this name)

When it is done, the map will have:

    • 8 large biome-specific towns with completely unique and intricate architecture and layouts no two towns, no two buildings will be the same, my goal is to fit each town in with its environment
    • 8 temples (1 corresponding to each town) to find and beat; signs in each town will give you hints on where to find these
    • a few smaller villages worth exploring with their own quests and plots, but no temples to explore, just looting and screenshot-worthy scenery
    • Explore buildings, streets, paths, caves, dungeons, temples, boats, deserts, cliffs, oceans, jungles and much much more!

    Other Cities coming soon:
    • Loxley: The Medieval Forest Keep. Deep in the woods, the Loxleians practice their smithery with finesse, guarding the secret to a Temple long forgotten by man...(unfinished)

    • Ravenna: In the shadow of the Volcano Proud, this town was forced to build into a great fissure in the earth after an ancient eruption destroyed the soil on the surface. These hermits in the hills are not as quiet as they seem however, and you will have to learn the secret of their portal if you are to find the Temple of Fire. Bring your Biggoron sword! jk...

    • Olympia: Arctic Gothic Outpost. This hostile tundra town is a far reach off the map still...(unfinished)
    • Parnassus: An Ocean islandhopper village? A deepsea temple? still working on ideas for this one... (unfinished)
    • Providence: The Industrial Island City. Steampunk inspiration will guide the design for this town. A redstone temple will be found deep under the city... (Unfinished)

    Other Temples to come:

    • Temple of the King Mangrove
    • Temple of the Crystal Lake
    • Temple of the Black Volcano
    • Temple of Arctic Everlast
    • Temple of the Fallen Star
    • Temple of Industrial Distopia

Small Towns/Misc. already on the map:
    • Hermit's House (Starting Point)
    • Lone Miner's Cabin
    • view:
      Forever alone...
    • Salty Seadog's Hut
    • Bittertooth Lodge
    • Master Sailor's House
    • lots of ruins
    • The Bamboo Forest:

Hope you enjoy it! Ill post more when I get closer to version 1!

That little +1 down there helps me work faster...

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/940642-test-v1-out-now-the-curse-of-the-rainbow-pedestal/

I've been working on this map for a few months now, and as with all my projects its not done yet, but I thought I'd post some pics and see what kind of response it generated. This will be available for download when I have some substantial material finished, including a storyline. Explanation and pics below!

    The overall plan is:

    • 8 large biome-specific towns with completely unique and intricate architecture and layouts no two towns, no two buildings will be the same, my goal is to fit each town in with its environment
    • 8 temples (1 corresponding to each town) to find and beat; signs in each town will give you hints on where to find these
    • a few smaller villages worth exploring with their own quests and plots, but no temples to explore, just looting and screenshot-worthy scenery
    • Explore buildings, streets, paths, caves, dungeons, temples, boats, deserts, cliffs, oceans, jungles and much much more!

    Done so far

    • Victoria: The starting city, a brick town built on the edge of a huge swampy lake. This is the largest city so far, and the most complete, so in version 1 there will be many hidden secrets in this town, and signs you read will eventually lead you to a corresponding Forest Temple that will be worth leaving the town to find and explore (more below). There are about 6 paths leaving the city in various directions, so you may find yourself returning once in a while to come back and explore the other paths later.

There seems to be something wrong with the Victoria Dam...

Mushroom River and The Pumpkin Covered Bridge:

      The narrow corner streets:

Arbor Square at night (don't ask about the cow; it's an infestation atm):

    • Phoenecia: The Fortified Sand Sultanate. I am still finishing up interiors in this town, so about 60% done. A confusing and angular town that is easy to get lost in. The giant palace at the center of the town is a good landmark to use for bearings. Be sure and practice your jumping skills along the rooftops, it may be rewarding! • Screenshots:

      The upper city:

just a small part of the town...

      Bottom View:

      Barely started:

    • Loxley: The Medieval Forest Keep. Deep in the woods, the Loxleians practice their smithery with finesse, guarding the secret to a Temple long forgotten by man...(unfinished)
    • Not Started:

    • Ravenna: In the shadow of the Volcano Proud, this town was forced to build into a great fissure in the earth after an ancient eruption destroyed the soil on the surface. These hermits in the hills are not as quiet as they seem however, and you will have to learn the secret of their portal if you are to find the Temple of Fire. Bring your Biggoron sword! jk...

posted a message on [Massive Creation] The City of Craftopolis (sneak peaks of upcoming content!)
Will you live in the Rooftop Penthouse or the Waterfront Mansion?

Live your dream in the streets of Craftopolis

disclaimer: I am no longer working on Craftopolis. My new project is called Providence and will have its own thread soon. However, I put a lot of time into Craftopolis and would love to see people still enjoying it, so I'm leaving this up and posting my most recent save of the city so you all can see where I left off. Thanks for playing Craftopolis and I appreciate all the support on my first attempt at a map.

    Most recent version
    http://www.mediafire.com/?pa6a0mewn3wo4k0

    2,000+ downloaders can't be wrong!

    To play Craftopolis:
    1. download map from the link
    2. extract the contents using WinRar
    4. Place contents in your Minecraft "saves" folder
    5. Get lost in the city!

Welcome to Craftopolis: the urban planner's delight!
I have built this map completely from scratch, and everything in it I built myself with the exception of Funkybub's Gas Station and Hotel! I can honestly say I have put well over 200 hours into this creation and I have had it in the works since about June 2011. I would love to turn it into an adventure/creation hybrid map, and still have lots of work to do on the interiors, but it is definitely a map worth downloading and exploring despite being in progress!

If anyone is an accomplished videographer I would love a youtube walkthrough video to post in this thread to show the true size and scale of this epic creation; pm me if you are up to the task--a map this big needs a video!

This is not your run-of-the-mill flattened terrain city map! (I mean besides Amsterdam and Miami, no real cities are FLAT...) I have sloped the streets to accommodate the difference between the bedrock level (where I started the city so the downtown could have taller skyscrapers) and the original sea level (where the city will end), so the it has wonderful hills and view in every direction. When I'm done this will erase the MCedit "walls" of newly generated chunks that loom over the city in certain areas, and give a more natural feel to the whole map.

The brand new 2.1 download also features a huge city with distinct neighborhoods and architectural styles, There are many shops and houses, apartments, highrises, a fire station, mall, movie theatre, museums (of history and of art), freight docks, a working subway and el rail system, an archery range, a high school, several grocery stores, many hotels, lots of parks and hundreds of hidden chests for you to find!

The following screenshots were taken on render distance: normal, as my computer cannot handle the "far" distance without lagging and then crashing, but I do recommend playing with render on far if you can, the results are much nicer, and it is the way I intended the city to be experienced

    Official 2.1 add list:
    -new el rail stop

-tons of interiors, chests, and new signs mostly outside of downtown

-a subway map! (this should help a bit) located in the downtown park subway station up on the second floor

    -new mansions in royal hill

-new houses/shops in the narrows by the high school

-new "lighthouse" mansion in the shingle edge district

-began a sewer level! But since it's not finished yet I won't spoil its location; good luck finding it!

-planted some of the central park

    -several more undisclosed surprises :iapprove:

    Hidden Items (so far)
    Things to look for!

-Be sure and look hard for all the chests, hidden floors, rooms and odd things to find in the structures of Craftopolis; it'll take you a while!
(eventually there will be an official checklist for the treasure hunters out there so you know exactly what you`re looking for, but for the moment just explore and go crazy!)

    -Supplies to build your hideout
If you find a lot of chests, you should have plenty to work with wherever you deem fit for dwelling

Old versions of the map still available for download:
    Old version 2.0 (outdated) Link:

    Map Progress:
An MCedit overview, to give an idea of the size

    Downtown:
    Boulevard West District: 90% :Green:
    Downtown Commercial: 95% :Green:
    Downtown Park: 95% :Green:
    Dockside Industrial District: 95% :Green:

    Central:
    Narrows: 80% :Green:
    Royal Hill: 85% :Green:
    Shingle Edge: 90% :Green:
    Clyde Hill: 35% :Red:
    [Unnamed District]: 25% :Red:

    unfinished/unreleased:
    Uptown
    Obsidian Heights: 10% :Red:
    Lapis Creek: 0% :Red:
    Settler's Grove: 10% :Red:
    Golden Shores: 0% :Red:
    Alta Solada: 0% :Red:

In later versions there will be more of a storyline with actual objectives and rules to abide by, but since this is such an early stage in the creation process, and I`m not very good with redstone cueing or scripting a plot that may still be a while. So for now have fun exploring Craftopolis!

Please post screenshots of your favorite stuff or comment with suggestions

    Thanks for downloading!

    +1 if you like, thanks!

    See you soon in Craftopolis

posted a message on Aesthetic architecture styles in an old survival world (Pic Heavy!)
Back in the days before I had MCedit, I used to actually play minecraft. That's right, I actually went through the tedium of gathering resources, building, exploding, rebuilding, and gathering more resources....Now all this is behind me, and these days I sadly find it more efficient to reach my architectural goals with more editing than playing, but I recently dug this old relic of mine out from the dusty folder of saves I once called home.

    What once was:

A cozy looking cabin in the woods...

    more of the cabin?

When I was a kid, we didn't have all your fancy stone brick and your easy pistons.... we worked for our houses! It was piling pebbles into cubic blocks and stacking them to make walls- yeah we froze our asses off, but you never had so much fun! Today's kids just don't appreciate anything...

This waterfall in the image above likes to freeze frequently and stop being the waterfall I made it to be. Thus, I curse it for its natural and programmed disobedience.

The yard and farming area, behind the house and on the (frozen) lake. How anything grows here, I don't know, but having hunted all the meat in my vicinity, my character has become a strict vegetarian

    Basement entrance:

A fire place sits inside this deceptively quiet scene, waiting once again for me to tempt the gods of this world. I have lost this section of the house no less than three times. Whenever I think I've learned, the fire properties mysteriously change their minds and return to their favorite task of reducing my structure to a heap of debris.

    View from the back deck:

It's so ****ing cold everyday here. It's month 14 of winter, and there's no sign of it letting up. Please Jeb, have mercy.... make there be seasons...please.... these snow and cobble walls don't insulate the best.....

But it wasn't the only house in the woods....

Hark, a path? A wall? ...and a doorway?!

Why what wonders lay beyond this lovel-Oh ****! where'd that come from?!?

    More city? check below

Oddly enough for its size, this city is quite empty.... oh yeah, I built it. And I'm all alone.

The views are tolerable as well. From the top of the residential complex I can see, well, pretty much only water and the other buildings...since the biome generation has been modified i dare not explore beyond these walls... for fear of losing the pristine pre-1.8 landscape
    oh, how I miss thee...

The walls are not my only protection from **** that goes bump in the night...

The only reason I even chose this location is cuz the sunsets are daaaaaaank. Ok that's not entirely true...but even so, the sunsets are daaaaaaank.

The architecture's decent too I suppose....

Enough of that, I left unfinished business out in the forest

    and the better looking side:
