Darkone55 posted a message on High Rossferry City - The most detailed city in MinecraftPosted in: Screenshots
About:High Rossferry is what happens when a composer and an architect team up in Minecraft. Every building is accessible and built in a realistic way. There are many quirks and funny hidden area's. We've been working on it since 2011. We use WorldEdit to help us with planning an structuring. Our goal is not to create a city as fast as we can, our goal is to make it perfect in every little detail. We're inspired by great artists. From Van Gogh to Mondriaan. And architects like Mies van der Rohe and Rietveld. There are many references to art, science, music and movies, all over the city. For more details and screenshots, check out our blog!

Dadding posted a message on Cael'taan - A Fantasy City [Download Link]Posted in: Screenshots
Cael'Taan was the name of a world I started back in October 2010. I've had to move the original buildings to a new world due to bugs and errors. It's since become much more than I intended. You can check out the entire album of pictures on Flickr or browse the select few I've uploaded to this thread! The original town and thread was formerly 100% legitimate but I've now moved over to creative mode so I could let my creative juices flow properly.I'm currently working on: A Stone themed tower, a church-based town, the docks, and plan to plant a castle somewhere around the environs.
Latest Update:
I've been jumping around from one project to the next a lot lately. I got bored of working on both the docks and the stone tower so I decided to take a stab at making a wall for one of the upper end villages in Cael'Taan. The idea is to have a cathedral in the middle of the town and for it to be the life of the whole build. I'll build everything sprawling around in with a small dock and another exit that will lead towards the spawn point with another village and an isolated inn along the road! Hope you enjoy!
Additional Images:
Warehouse heavily inspired by CubicinCubic Rykene Village
Here's an overhead shot of the map.
And here's the old thread before I had to move everything over and back when I used survival mode and no mods.
I've only ever had one Minecraft world: this one. What's the point of making a new world if you can just walk fifty feet and start something new - able to go back to your old creations whenever you like. So a few dozen creations after my inauguration into Minecraft and I came up with this creation you see here. Originally I didn't plan on posting anything about it until I was 100% complete, but it's been two months since I've worked on it due to a busy schedule, and I probably will never finish it. I've never believed in MCEdit, Inventory Spawners or anything of the like, so all of this creation is 100% legitimate - part of why it has taken so long to make what I've done so far.
Essentially it's a big wall with an underground dome in the middle of it and a town attached to the side. It all started with me trying to make an Atlantis-esque creation.
So here's an overview of most of it:
My initial reason for building here:
There are also a couple of poorly designed redstone mechanisms scattered around, such as a secret door behind a fireplace to get to a mob spawner trap, a meeting room under a temple, and a forest underground.
You can check out the aforementioned devices in a couple of very old, outdated videos / forum posts here:

tatortodd22 posted a message on Yourope - Massive world of beautiful builds (Several people enjoy it!)Unfortunately, Minecraft's updates changed the biomes in this world, resulting in disasters such as a swampy watered ocean utopia. Due to choppy landscapes and dramatic changes in the way Minecraft can be played, I decided to cease work on Yourope: The Curse of Faerden, in hopes for rebirthing the project in the future.Posted in: Screenshots
The constructions shown below are all of my design and work, using both in game tools and out-of-game editing softwares to speed up larger constructions (MCEdit). Treasures and traps were hand placed and tested for difficulty. The entire world was designed for an adventure-style gaming experience where exploration is rewarded.
Plotline
Centuries ago, an ancient utopian city began mining below its foundations to expand underground and gather resources. During this project, a cave system was discovered housing a strange blue crystal. It was incredibly popular, and its value inflated. The citizens would spend everything they had to obtain more of these magnificent blue gems. The people succumbed to greed, envy, and corruption, leading to the destruction of the city once crime, murder, and eventual war broke out over the greed these stones inspired.
Many years after the city lay in ruins, excavations for this fabled stone led to the discovery of a grand statue at the base of the cave system the rocks were discovered in. An insription on its pedestal stated: "May those who steal from Earth's own treasure, suffer the curse of Faerden, dwarven god of greed." An alliance was then formed to blockade the Blue Ruins, and protect all those greedy enough to search for these rocks from dooming themselves.
Centuries past into the modern era, where cities like Skyre and Lumbhaven expand from great times of prosperity and peace. A pirate ship, captained by an adventurous ex-marine, successfully raided the Blue Ruins, making off with a large shipment of the cursed gems. The ship is wrecked from foul weather and damage sustained in the blockade run. The pirates that survived the wreck went inland, spending the blue rocks on whatever they wanted. These cursed rocks spread like wildfire across these modernized and connected cities.
You wake up in the submerged captain's quarters of the wrecked ship as the captain himself. Without a memory to rely on, you venture inland to discover what happened to this desolate world, and your role in its destruction, discovering clues in each town. Can you save the world from yet another disaster, or is it doomed by the curse of Faerden forever?

Cainwrith, the ancient oceanic stronghold. Much like the ocean itself, horrible dangers and mystery lie beneath the surface. This abandoned utopia features great inventions like boat lifts in the four main towers, and a running water system throughout the city
A sneak peak at the desert city. This tower was built to hold up the heavens, in hopes of stabilizing the gods and making them more predictable. (Inspired by the Tower of Babel)
A farm outside of Skyre, the first sign of civilization the captain comes across.
Lumbhaven, the peaceful forest village. Could their effort to expand have been their downfall?
Both screenshots above are of the nature dungeon.
The main room of the water temple that lays beneath Cainwrith.
Skyre, the first beautiful town our adventurer encounters. Could their curiosity and knowledge that brought them to greatness also be their weakness? This intellectual culture features a chapel, a library, and the railway hub for Yourope, which was under construction when the curse struck the city.
Shivren, the arctic mining town and outpost to the city of Skyre. The inhabitants of this town underestimated the dangers of that which lies below. Their own greed weakened them. Someone else's greed destroyed them.
A Youropean outpost in the Nether.
A horrible shipwreck, and the beginning of our adventurers journey.

Regular_Hexahedron posted a message on Mazeworld - A Dimension Of Infinite RuinsPeople love exploring Minecraft. Discovering amazing mountains, caves, and valleys procedurally generated by the infinite world generator.Posted in: Suggestions
What if there was another world, also procedurally generated, but with randomly created buildings, corridors, streets, bridges, towers, stairways, and canals? A world of man made structures rather than natural terrain. But one where the random generator can create all kinds of mind boggling things that no human would have the time to create.
What would Mazeworld (just a placeholder name, don't stress if you dislike it) look like?
Take 1 parts Jim Henson's Labyrinth.
Add 1 parts MC Escher sketch.
Add 1 part Mines of Moria.
Add 1 parts .
Imagine an infinite labyrinth of high stone and cobblestone walls. Passages fork, twist, and rejoin endlessly. Sometimes terrain is flat, sometimes mountainous. Passages can rise up the side of hills, or become tunnels and go straight into a mountain.
Massive towers and castles rise from plazas here and there, themselves honeycombed with stairs and hallways, and connected to other towers by massive bridges and sky-highways. The height can vary, ranging from small buildings to structures that reach the highest altitude.
The underground is porous. Stairways lead down into a infinite world of neatly chiseled tunnels, great halls, and bridged chasms.
Mazeworld would also be dangerous, for those of us who enjoy a thrill. The map would not come with any torches...meaning that all those buildings, those underground tunnels, are in perpetual darkness. Spawning monsters until you light the place up. Would these be the same creatures as you find on Earth? Maybe, but perhaps Mazeworld could have its own unique mobs instead.
Who built Mazeworld? And why? That's not really important. Perhaps the dead gods of a forgotten people. Perhaps it was always there and nobody built it, a dimension representing both order and chaos.
How would you get to Mazeworld? A portal of some kind probably. I don't think I need to randomly pick some material to make it out of since that's not really crucial to the core of this suggestion. It should probably be a little challenging to make though.
Why would you go to Mazeworld? What's in it for the player? Mostly the thrill of exploration. Finding amazing random structures no human could design. Battling hordes of creatures and turning their magnificent lairs into your safehouses. Modifying these random structures with your own edits and additions. But perhaps there could also be treasure chests here and there, waiting to be found, for people that can't be motivated to do anything without a straightforward prize.
Basically, I like this idea because it would take the splendor of the random generator in minecraft and extend it to artificial structures.
UPDATES
12/4/12 - Mazeworld is becoming a reality thanks to EyeOfTheDaev's mod. Check out his WIP thread here: http://www.minecraft...mazeworld-wip/
Check it out to follow the latest progress, or to volunteer your own coding skill to help make Mazeworld come to life.
Also, GTG3000 made some awesome banners you can use to show your support for Mazeworld:
Frequently Suggested/Popular Ideas
*Treasure chests hidden throughout world
*Focus on golem/construct/animated object mobs, few or no living creatures
*Perhaps some ghosts/intangible undead
*Different biomes containing different architecture and city functions. Library biome, castle biome, garden biome, market biome, etc.
*Aqueduct/canal system to allow boat travel.
*Occasional redstone machinery generates with the world.
*New blocks players could collect as building materials.
*Sound activated portal (if technically practical)
*Statue mobs that only move when player isn't looking
*Mobs that are neutral but attack when they witness the player damaging Mazeworld (breaking blocks)
*Minotaur (perhaps clockwork?)
*Shadow creatures that won't leave darkness
*Stationary turret like enemies

2)Skull/Skull Lantern
These are the skull of ancient minecraft civilization. No matter who they are,now they just remain skulls.
The skulls can put on the ground, put a torch inside and become a scary lantern,or you can change it into bone meals.
3)Analyzer
This machine is use for analyzing bio-fossils or relics.
You may heard about sometimes the scientist finds some live tissue in fossils that contains DNA.That is what analyzer working for.
Also, the analyzer can restore the relics into stoneboard, which may contains some important message form ancient civilization.
It's easy to use.just put some bio-fossil or relics on the left side, and analyzer will put products on the right side automatically
4)cultivate
If you got some DNA from analyzer, you may want to turn them back alive.Cultivate is what you need.
Just put DNA and some bio-fossil into it,and the machine will try to rebuild the cells, using organic items(bio-fossils,ancient eggs, raw pork chops, raw fishes,eggs,slimeballs,milk,Dino-meats,raw chicken soup, raw chicken, raw beef) as material.
It's a complex process,so give some time for it.
If everything's ok,you will get a ancient egg.
Be aware!!Sometimes ancient DNA doesn't like what we known.Using cultivate may cause monster outbreak!
5)Archeology workbench
Broken sword is useless. You need some process to make it usable.
Unfortunately, is not decided for this. What you need is an archeology workbench.
With the micro-processor inside the workbench,it reads the information from relics and try to rebuild the ancient equipment, like swords.
Give it enough time and relics, and it will make a usable equipment for you.
6)Ancient Ferns
These ancient plants still living well in modern.
They only can grow under trees, and breed by time passes.
With two sub-species and currently drops nothing.
6)Order Drum
This drum is use for ordering group of Dinos.
Right click with anything on hand:Switch order mode(Follow/Free move/Stay)
Left Click with stick on hand: Send current order to triceratops within 30 blocks.
Left Click with bone on hand: Send current order to velociraptors within 30 blocks.
Left Click with arrow on hand: Send current order to pterosaurs within 30 blocks.
Left Click with skullstick on hand:Don't do this when adult T-rexes are around.
7)Feeder
This machine can grind and store foods that Dinos will come for it.
All tamable Dinos use feeders. They can see the feeder within 6 blocks.
It has two silos. One for carnivore, one for herbivore.
You can try put some foods into correct slots, and the machine will grind the foods.
Acceptable meat:pork(raw/cooked),fish(raw/cooked),chicken(raw/cooked),beef(raw/cooked),egg,slimeball
Acceptable greens:apple,wheat,reed,bread,paper,book,melon(block/slice),flowers(red/yellow),mushrooms(red/brown),sapling,fern seeds,leaves,vines
Velociraptors will come for it when they find no pigs around. While triceratops will come for it before searching for ferns.
Pterosaurs and T-Rexes will use it too.
8)Permafrost & Iced-Stones
The permafrost are frozen dirt that was from ice-age.
They are weak, and will melt to normal dirt if they expose to direct sunshine or heat sources.
But unlike the permafrost in real life, the permafrost in this mod have special power that can turn the stones around into iced-stones,which can protected the permafrost.
Iced-stone drops cobblestone, just like normal stones does.
permafrost drops Fern-seed,skulls,frozen-meat,bone and book.Shovel or empty-hands are needed.
====New Items====
1)bio-fossil
bio-fossil means the fossils that may contain live tissues. But you can't see it by eyes. You need analyzer to make sure of it.
Also, you can hold this and right-click on the ground to create a fossil-model.
2)relics scrapes
these scraps were once the antiques of ancient civilization. Now they are nothing more than scrapes. You need analyzer to rebuild it.
3)stoneboard
4)DNAs
Stoneboards are paintings of ancient civilization. It contains some legends or prophecy that you may interested with.
Analyzers can get DNA from bio-fossils or other organics like meats.
DNA can do nothing. But you can send it into cultivate, which may take DNAs back alive again.
5)Ancient eggs
After a long time waiting without outbreak, cultivate has rebuilt the DNAs into live, hatch-able eggs.
Now you can put the eggs on the ground and hatch it into living ancient creatures.
Or,since they are true eggs, you can make them into cakes.
Imprinting:To have a tamed baby, you need to stay in a range(about 6 blocks) when the baby is coming out.Otherwise,it will live in wild.
6)Broken Ancient Equipment
Found in fossil,it's from the great war in ancient civilization.
They are useless, and needed to be rebuilt by archeology workbench.
7)Ancient Equipment
After some repair work by archeology workbench, now you got wearable ancient equipment.
While not in the peaceful mode, both sword and helmet has supernatural powers.Especially when them has been equipped together.
(Try it at pig,not cows.)
8)Fern seeds
This seed can plant an ancient fern on ground.
You can get some fern seed from analyzer while analyzing bio-fossils.
Caution:Triceratops won't eat seeds directly.
9)Skull Stick
This stick is only a decoration.It can't hit,can't throw a fireball.
But if use it to hit the order drum, something may happen.
10)Scarab Gem
These beautiful gems means rebirth. They are sacred of ancient civilization.
11)Scarab Tools
By the advanced forging and inlaying technology by ancient civilization, they are able to inlay Scarab Gems on tools and make them as hard as diamond tools.
All you need to do is craft Scarab Gem with any normal tools.
These tools also can be repaired on Archeology workbench.
12)Dino Pedia
Now you can see what dinos are feeling by this book.To use it,hold it on hand then click on the dinos.
13)Raw chicken soup/Cooked chicken soup
So we got raw chicken.Instead roasting it,we can also make it as soup.
Unfortunately,we can't drink it no matter raw or cooked.
14)Essence of Chicken
These delicious liquid are nutritious. You can drink it as tonic, but it won't feed you.
Also, you can try use it on your lovely dinosaurs. But beware with the side-effect of fast-growing.
15)Living Nautilus
Oh!you caught a living fossil!
Now you can cook it,or put it into water (right click on floor)to release it.
16)Sio-Chiu-Le
A traditional Taiwanese snacks that made by snails. But you make it simply put living nautilus into furnace. It's delicious!
Also,If a Mosasaurus is chasing you,you can drop a Sio-Chiu-Le (I mean,pressing Q) and shift its attention.
17)Empty Shell
Dropped by dead nautilus. It can be used to change a single Plesiosaur's order status.
18)Magic conch
Dropped by dead nautilus. It can be used to order a group of Plesiosaurs.Change the order type by putting it into crafting areas.
19)Dino meats/Dino steaks
Why dinosaurs drop pork? They should drop their meat!
20)Embryo Syringe
These embryos were created from animal-DNAs by cultivate. You can use these to inject embryos into some mammals like , and cows and make them pregnant.
You can use Dino-Pedias(temporary) to monitor the growth inside pregnant animals.
After a while(normally 5 minutes),the baby will be born.
21)Frozen Meat
These are the meat of some unlucky prehistoric animals that was trapped and been frozen alive.
We don't know which animal it was,but analyzers could help.It has 66% to be a DNA,or 33% to be normal meat.
*If You are too hungry, you can put this into furnace to get some steak.
*If you are in danger, you also can use this to hit enemy since it's hard enough. The effect is same as diamond sword, but the meat will break Immediately.
22)Javelins
These javelins have difference material, and only can be found in weapon-shop relics.
They're similar as arrows, but have the ability to penetrate.
Also, you can shoot javelins while mounting something without hurting the mount.
Ancient Javelins can fall a lightning belt on target.

?How to hatch eggs:
1.You need to satisfy the eggs' needs.For normal dinosaurs(including Plesiosaur since they build nest on land.),you need to keep them warm(I mean,sunlight or light source.);
For aquatic dinosaurs, you have to keep the egg inside water.
2.Eggs need at least 5 minutes to hatch. If the egg has been exposed in bad conditions for a while,if may need more times.
3.If the egg exposed in a bad conditions for too long,it will die and disappear.
4.Make sure you kept some "incubation spaces" for eggs.Since dinosaurs are bigger then eggs.
5.Remember,you can always pick up the egg by right-click on it and make it back to item. This will reset the hatching progress,no matter positive or negitve.

====FAQ====
====Updates====
Q: Hey, how do yo--
A: Before you ask anything, please READ the OP and the FAQ completely. It saves time and prevents unnecessary repetitive questions. If your question is still not answered, then you comment.
Q: What is this mod and what does it do?
A: The title should be pretty self-explanatory. Otherwise, this mod adds an archaeological element to the game as well as prehistoric creatures to revive.
Q: Hey, I have a problem with the mod!
A: If you have some difficulties with installing or anything else, PLEASE post an error report, preferably in Spoiler Tags (-TEXT-. If you didn't get an error report, please describe your error as best as possible for assistance.
Q: Do dinosaurs naturally spawn?
A: No, they only spawn when revived from Bio-Fossils (See Below in New Items) excavated underground. The only prehistoric animal in this mod that spawns naturally as of yet is the Nautilus. Anu, the Pig Emperor also spawns naturally, but only in the Nether.
Q: Hey, where's the Spinosaurus?
A: Any mobs not seen in the OP are NOT in the mod yet officially.
Q: U shud, liek add --
A: Adding mobs takes time, and not every single suggestion is going to be implemented. Please be patient and considerate.
Q: How do you tame the T-Rex?
A: That is a secret. You may get tips in stone tablets.
Q: How do you release Anu into the overworld and what happens?
A: Through hacking, and all hell breaks loose.
Q: What is the Time Machine? Are you adding a new dimension?
A: The Time Machine doesn't work at the moment, and a dimension is planned. It is merely an aesthetic block for now.
Q:Where is download?
A:Read,kid.
Q:My game crashed!
A:Please try gather some error logs before reporting crash.Read this for more information.
A helpful error log may looks like this:
Remember to use spoiler to post.
Q:Why don't you add XXX.
A:Well I believe the quantity is not always important than quality.I like to make more in one content, rather than make a lot of content without connotation.
But suggestions are always welcome!
Q:Make this SMP!
A:It IS SMP already.
Q:Does this mod compatible with OOO mod?
A:This mod was designed for high-compatibility.So it should compatible with most mods.
If you got a mod conflict, here are some reasons:
1.That mod modified Notch-Classes and conflict with Forge/ModLoader/ModLoaderMP/AudioMod.
This is no solution. We need those mods.
2.ID conflict
Change IDs in /%appdata%/.minecraft/config/ModFossil.cfg.Open it by notepad.
For which IDs was used by this mod, check the Used IDs.
Modder should offer which IDs was used. But if he/they didn't,PM me and I may help.

Credits and Creation:
First off, credit for creating this challenge goes to Cthulhu725! He thought it up, created the concept, but didn't have time to respond to the overwhelming popularity the challenge recieved. Since then, we've collectively clarified and added new rules, collected artwork and stories, and seen interest for it rise quite greatly. So much so, that rules and their descriptions were eventually spread out over a great number of pages, and we thought it better to make a new topic, and collect everything in a new post.
Challenge Lorebook:
Not all trees have a spirit to watch over them, many die to old age, drought or flood, disease or flames, and many other (un)natural causes. But some trees, do have a guardian spirit, they are blessed by your presence. You shall make it grow and prosper, spread your roots far and wide, eventually shadow over all the other trees and become a monument in itself.
In this challenge you take on the role of a trees very essence. You will become a dryad, a tree spirit, a tree's soul, the God in the tree. It has many names, but common to them all is this: They can never leave the tree, and if one of them dies, so does the other. And just as a tree's reach is limited by the height of it's branches and it's length of it's roots, so is a tree spirit limited. You will become an extension of the tree, just as it becomes an extension of you. The spirit will direct the growth of the tree, digging roots to valuable minerals and precious water, branching out to bask in the sun.
But remember, you are not alone in this world, the tree spirit can never rest. It must protect it's tree from all things. The darkness brings nests of spiders, the extremely dangerous Creepers, maybe even other tree spirits - everything is a potential threat. Even when they are gone, a single spark of flame can reduce a spirit to ash, and sometimes even the sky itself will try to erase your very existence.
How will you survive?
Challenge Description:
The first core aspect in this challenge as you might have guessed by now, is to grow a world tree.
It all begins when you join a new world, there's no need to pick a specific seed for your map. The first thing you do, is to find and pick a single tree to become the blessed grandfather tree. It can be any kind of tree you like, of any size and shape, on any location. When you find one you want to bless, chop down the tree, and gather all saplings and logs that drop, but you must leave the bottom log of the tree standing. This bottom log becomes the heart and life of your world tree - if it is destroyed, be that by creepers exploding or fire, the challenge is lost, and the tree will die.
When you have done this, hop up on your tree heart, and begin the challenge proper! From now on, you cannot leave your tree any longer, you are now linked to it. You can only mine or harvest anything you can reach while touching a log. With the saplings and logs you harvested from your grandfather-tree, you will be able to plant and grow new trees, offspring of your first, which you again can harvest completely. Then you repeat this process over and over again, while you try to grow your tree into a big, awe-inspiring creation!
The second core challenge aspect, lies in using no resources but those you can reach while touching part of your tree, be that a log or a leaf directly connected to your tree, through a series of other logs. Let's illustrate an example with pictures:
The right tree, is your world tree, and you want to pick up that flower. However, the tree spirit cannot leave it's tree, and the flower is too far away to reach! How can we pick up the flower? The answer is roots! The tree spirit can direct the growth of the world trees roots to where they need to go, simply by placing logs grown from the sapling offspring of the original tree. So to reach that flower, the tree spirit would make a path of logs, symbolizing the growth of roots, for example like this:
By using this simple concept, the tree spirit can reach anything! It can grow roots to water, expanding to encompass a greater area, or even dig deep down into the core of the earth to find precious materials like coal, iron, or even diamonds. Remember though, the roots must be directly connected through a string of logs to your tree heart.Placing a log for every second block and jumping from log to log does not leave you with a direct link, and is not allowed.
These two aspects form the core rules in the challenge, and open for a surprisingly interesting and refreshing play-style, where absolutely everything you find becomes extra precious.
The third core aspect, while not a rule in itself so to speak, rather more of a suggestion is; whatever way you decide to attack this challenge, do it in a way YOU find fun! If you think a specific rule is too frustrating, or don't like the idea of something, play it differently! Make up your own limitations. Yours is the drill that will pierce the heavens after all, and you won't pierce the heavens if you're not having fun.
Rule Summary:
1: Begin the challenge in a new world, using any seed you like. Alternatively if you want to play in your main world, drop everything you have in a chest and run far into the wilderness without picking up anything.
2: Pick a single tree of any type, in any area, and harvest all saplings and logs from it except the bottom Log, which will become your Heart-log. (If you're extremely unlucky and the tree drops no saplings at all, just punch leaves on other nearby trees until you get one, or simply dump your logs and pick a new tree.) When you have done this, jump onto the Heart-log to begin the challenge proper! From now on;
3: You cannot move away from your tree. You cannot dig or mine blocks or items unless you are standing on, or directly next to either a log or leaves directly connected to your Heart-log through other logs. Pretend that you at all times need to be able to reach out an arm and touch a log or a leaf belonging to your tree, whether the log is above, under, or beside you. This includes killing animals too, you can't run off your tree to go hunting! You can however leave the log a few seconds to pick up the fallen blocks, but only to collect the items, not to mine or travel further away. And since it's a common question: Jumping is allowed!
4: You can chop other trees down, but you cannot use wood from a tree that is not the offspring of the first saplings you harvested. If you must chop down other trees, throw it's logs and saplings away, or turn the logs into planks, sticks or charcoal, or any other otherwise "dead" material. A tree cannot grow by absorbing other trees after all. It can only conquer them!
5: You can use and build with any other "dead" materials for decorations etc, like fences, wool, cobblestone, iron tools, etc as long as you have obtained it according to the rules above. Remember though, you're growing a tree, not building a castle. How would a tree create a wall, for example? Try to think of something creative and different!
6: Play at least on Easy or Normal difficulty. Peaceful not only removes a large aspect of the challenge, but it also removes your only source of an important resource: Bone Meal!
7: Replacing the Heart-log with a more distinguishable block for aesthetic reasons is fine - as long as you replace it with a fragile block like wool, glass, or the most popular Glowstone. Don't replace it with indestructibles like Obsidian, however. You want to keep it as a fragile, easily destroyed block to retain the feeling of needing to protect it from the elements. It is after all your heart!
Extra Optional Challenges:
1: "Hardcore mode" - If you die even just one single time, the challenge is lost, and you must start over again. You should try to aim for this challenge when you begin even if it's optional, try to survive as long as possible! Discover your fear of the dark all over again.
2:Build a working fireplace inside your tree! It's not easy, it's incredibly risky, but it is possible! This Topic has a lot of useful information about how fires spread, as well as some other Tree Spirit related tips for fire prevention. It will help you out.
3: Reach the Nether! Grow roots "through" the portal by placing roots at both sides of it, and expand your tree into the furnace of hell itself. But be careful, you don't want to get stuck on the wrong end of a burning root!
Tips and Tricks:
The first week can be very hard to survive even on easy, but don't give up! Even if your tree is blown up and you end up showered with arrows, which you almost certainly will at least once, don't let that stop you. That tree was probably old and weak anyway, so go find a new one to bless!
The first night, dirt is your most easily accessible means of construction, as you're unlikely to get enough logs to be able to build a shelter. A small dirt hut is a great way to keep both you and your heart-log safe when night falls. And make no mistake, as soon as night falls, you will need to hide! Keep a small hole open so you see when dawn comes, but be ready to plug it if skeletons spot you. When the sun rises, wait a while before you exit your hut. Creepers don't burn in sunlight, and they might be near enough to attack you when you go out. Give most of them the time to despawn!
The sun is your best friend! Avoid going out at night whenever possible. It will burn zombies and skeletons, and you can use this to your advantage. Try to lure them to you at night without pulling creepers along with them, and block them out from your shelter. They will roam around the walls outside and eventually die in the sunshine, leaving precious resources behind. Feathers for arrows and bones for bone meals are both incredibly useful. You can also leave a 1x1 hole in the roof of your hut open, and safely kill spiders through it. The strings they drop are needed for your bow, but if you're very unlucky with sheep it can also be used to make wool for your bed!
Try to build a wheat-farm as soon as possible, and remember to make sure friendly mobs won't trample the crops. It is your most reliable and easily accessible source of food for healing, as both pork and fish requires cooking first, and coal (and charcoal) are limited resources. Build it near water if you can, and if not, find iron for a bucket so you can irrigate it. The wheat will grow much faster!
You might discover new ways to use wood. Fences make good windows in place of glass, for example! Try to think of other clever uses, and post your ideas!
Be very wary of any kind of fire. When you're digging deep tunnels, expect and prepare for lava before you find it. Always bring a bucket of water with you, and consider making "water-locks" along your roots, where water will automatically flood a root-fire. A tunnel might be safe when you place it, but if lava is close enough it might catch fire later, even from through stone walls where you can't even see it.
A fishing rod is a surprisingly powerful tool. Not because you can use it to fish with, although that's certainly a good bonus too, but because you can use it to pull mobs you can't reach to you! Sheep, cows and pigs have a terrible habit of spawning just out of reach, but a quick pull with the fishing rod can haul them in range of your roots. The same goes for skeletons as well, when you're feeling brave enough to tackle them for their bones.
Finally, good luck brave tree spirit, and most importantly, have fun!
Build the tree of all trees, and share your creations, your experiences, and your discoveries with everyone! -

Live your dream in the streets of Craftopolis
disclaimer: I am no longer working on Craftopolis. My new project is called Providence and will have its own thread soon. However, I put a lot of time into Craftopolis and would love to see people still enjoying it, so I'm leaving this up and posting my most recent save of the city so you all can see where I left off. Thanks for playing Craftopolis and I appreciate all the support on my first attempt at a map.

2,000+ downloaders can't be wrong!
To play Craftopolis:
1. download map from the link
2. extract the contents using WinRar
4. Place contents in your Minecraft "saves" folder
5. Get lost in the city!
Welcome to Craftopolis: the urban planner's delight!
I have built this map completely from scratch, and everything in it I built myself with the exception of Funkybub's Gas Station and Hotel! I can honestly say I have put well over 200 hours into this creation and I have had it in the works since about June 2011. I would love to turn it into an adventure/creation hybrid map, and still have lots of work to do on the interiors, but it is definitely a map worth downloading and exploring despite being in progress!
If anyone is an accomplished videographer I would love a youtube walkthrough video to post in this thread to show the true size and scale of this epic creation; pm me if you are up to the task--a map this big needs a video!
This is not your run-of-the-mill flattened terrain city map! (I mean besides Amsterdam and Miami, no real cities are FLAT...) I have sloped the streets to accommodate the difference between the bedrock level (where I started the city so the downtown could have taller skyscrapers) and the original sea level (where the city will end), so the it has wonderful hills and view in every direction. When I'm done this will erase the MCedit "walls" of newly generated chunks that loom over the city in certain areas, and give a more natural feel to the whole map.
The brand new 2.1 download also features a huge city with distinct neighborhoods and architectural styles, There are many shops and houses, apartments, highrises, a fire station, mall, movie theatre, museums (of history and of art), freight docks, a working subway and el rail system, an archery range, a high school, several grocery stores, many hotels, lots of parks and hundreds of hidden chests for you to find!
The following screenshots were taken on render distance: normal, as my computer cannot handle the "far" distance without lagging and then crashing, but I do recommend playing with render on far if you can, the results are much nicer, and it is the way I intended the city to be experienced
Official 2.1 add list:
-tons of interiors, chests, and new signs mostly outside of downtown
-a subway map! (this should help a bit) located in the downtown park subway station up on the second floor
-new mansions in royal hill
-new houses/shops in the narrows by the high school
-new "lighthouse" mansion in the shingle edge district
-began a sewer level! But since it's not finished yet I won't spoil its location; good luck finding it!
-planted some of the central park
-several more undisclosed surprises
Hidden Items (so far)
Things to look for!
-Be sure and look hard for all the chests, hidden floors, rooms and odd things to find in the structures of Craftopolis; it'll take you a while!
(eventually there will be an official checklist for the treasure hunters out there so you know exactly what you`re looking for, but for the moment just explore and go crazy!)
-Supplies to build your hideout
If you find a lot of chests, you should have plenty to work with wherever you deem fit for dwelling
Old versions of the map still available for download:

In later versions there will be more of a storyline with actual objectives and rules to abide by, but since this is such an early stage in the creation process, and I`m not very good with redstone cueing or scripting a plot that may still be a while. So for now have fun exploring Craftopolis!
Please post screenshots of your favorite stuff or comment with suggestions
Thanks for downloading!

What once was:
A cozy looking cabin in the woods...
more of the cabin?
When I was a kid, we didn't have all your fancy stone brick and your easy pistons.... we worked for our houses! It was piling pebbles into cubic blocks and stacking them to make walls- yeah we froze our asses off, but you never had so much fun! Today's kids just don't appreciate anything...
This waterfall in the image above likes to freeze frequently and stop being the waterfall I made it to be. Thus, I curse it for its natural and programmed disobedience.
The yard and farming area, behind the house and on the (frozen) lake. How anything grows here, I don't know, but having hunted all the meat in my vicinity, my character has become a strict vegetarian
Basement entrance:
A fire place sits inside this deceptively quiet scene, waiting once again for me to tempt the gods of this world. I have lost this section of the house no less than three times. Whenever I think I've learned, the fire properties mysteriously change their minds and return to their favorite task of reducing my structure to a heap of debris.
View from the back deck:
It's so ****ing cold everyday here. It's month 14 of winter, and there's no sign of it letting up. Please Jeb, have mercy.... make there be seasons...please.... these snow and cobble walls don't insulate the best.....
But it wasn't the only house in the woods....
Hark, a path? A wall? ...and a doorway?!
Why what wonders lay beyond this lovel-Oh ****! where'd that come from?!?
More city? check below
The views are tolerable as well. From the top of the residential complex I can see, well, pretty much only water and the other buildings...since the biome generation has been modified i dare not explore beyond these walls... for fear of losing the pristine pre-1.8 landscape
oh, how I miss thee...
The walls are not my only protection from **** that goes bump in the night...
The only reason I even chose this location is cuz the sunsets are daaaaaaank. Ok that's not entirely true...but even so, the sunsets are daaaaaaank.
The architecture's decent too I suppose....
Enough of that, I left unfinished business out in the forest
and the better looking side:
