So a few years ago I made a challenge, but it didn't really take off. So i'm making a new one, which should hopefully be better than my old one. Let me know what you think about this challenge, and if you do it post some pics of your progress!

    Rules

This is intended to be played on normal, vanilla survival Minecraft. Mods aren't allowed, but who's going to stop you if you use them? Feel free to play this on any difficulty, bonus points if you complete it on Hardcore. Amplified or Default map types are recommended, but it's not like the police are gonna come banging on your door if you play it on superflat or XL biomes.

    Lore

You pull yourself out of bed, leaving the warm embrace of the blankets as you rub the sleep out of your eyes. "At least it's nearly the weekend" you murmur to yourself, while you make your way to the bathroom. After a shower you're feeling revitalized and less like a zombie. You enjoy a hearty breakfast which fills you up. You make sure to lock the door behind you as you leave the house. You check the mailbox, hoping the parcel you ordered had arrived. It hadn't, but there was something else in the letterbox for you. A small brown envelope which had been sealed shut with a wax stamp, like kings used to use in the medieval times. A quizzical look draws itself on your face as you open it. You pull out a piece of parchment that had intricate handwriting on it. It seemed like it belonged in a museum or someone else's letterbox a few hundred years ago. You finally figure out how to read the curly writing on the page and you quietly read it out to yourself as you read it.
    "Dear Citizen,

Congratulations on having being chosen as one of the testers for Life 2.0! This is the exciting sequel to Life 1.0! We hope you will bear with us as you enter this world and help test out this unique living experience. This is an extremely early build, and most things have yet to be improved, but it needs to be determined whether it is livable in at the moment. We have changed a lot of things, like physics, weather, the way people need to fuel their bodies, the aesthetics of the world and the way people survive! We hope you will enjoy your experience testing out this early version of Life for us!

    Kind Regards,
    Notch"

You're starting to think that this was some dumb prank by some of the local kids, until a light appears above you and encircles you. Everything outside of that light starts going black, and you feel yourself being lifted. Your eyes close, and feel yourself falling asleep... When you wake up, you rub your head thinking you had a weird dream, and as you go to climb out of bed, it's then you realize that it was no dream. You rub the sleep out of your eyes, and take a long hard look around. You don't recognize anything of what your seeing. What you're seeing isn't the world you know... You're in Life 2.0 now.

    The Challenge

    Starting Off
[Restrictions: No tools above wood unless you find some or are dropped, sorry, but you're new to the world, you don't know whats what yet!]

You know that you're going to need to build a shelter of some sort, and make a weapon in case of an animal attack, you're also going to need food. There's a small note lying on the ground near you, you pick it up and it reads "Punch the trees! - Notch"

    - Safety:Build yourself a small shack, or find a cave and make an area of it safe. You should have a crafting table, chest and some torches to keep the baddies out. [Note: This doesn't have to be a proper house, just something to keep you safe for a while]

    - GOT WOOD: Craft yourself a set of wooden tools (Pickaxe, Sword, Shovel, Axe and Hoe).

    - Hot hot hot: Craft a furnace and put that bad boy down somewhere in your house.

    - But I wanted toast: Find some water near you and sow the land so you can plant some seeds in it, and then make some bread.
    OR

    - Slay some animals and cook them in the furnace, yum yum!

    OPTIONAL

    - Watch the first sunset of the new world.
    - Slay some baddies.
    - Make a little garden with some different types of flowers.

    Survived the night!
[Restrictions: You can use stone tools now! Woohoo! You can also collect Iron, but no smelting or crafting it!]
You’ve survived the first night, but learned of the horrors that come after you when the sun sets. It’s time to up your game! You find a note stuck to your door that says “Use stone, it’s way better than wood! Also, what treasures may lie underground?” – Notch

    - Upgrade Time: Make yourself a nice new set of Stone Tools.

    - Double Upgrade: Build yourself a proper house, one that even Notch would be proud of!

    - Mineshaft, baby. Create a mine that goes down below Y: 20.

    - Ground Base:Set up a small base at the bottom of your mine where you plan to mine. Make sure it's protected from enemies, well lit, has a crafting table, a couple of chests and a bunch of furnaces.

    - Next level food plays: Build yourself a greenhouse or other type of building to grow plants in (this can be automatic) and an animal farm, with all the animals in separate pens.

    - Bensons Park:A park! Make it nice, some flowers, nice tree's, maybe a small creek.

    OPTIONAL
    - Explore a cave
    - Dye some of the sheep's wool different colors

    Progress!
[Restriction: Everything is available to you apart from diamonds! Soon, young padawan]

You've done very well so far! You have managed to overcome some of the obstacles other testers couldn't, and your little settlement is growing! It's time to upgrade even more, who knows, Notch might send some more of the testers into your world, considering how well you've done!

    - Iron Man: Make a set of Iron Tools and Iron Armor!

    - KaChing: Build a storage room/warehouse/bank which is filled with chests.

    - Home Sweet Home:Build some more houses! Between 3 - 5 might get you some friends in the dangerous world.

    - Salmon Dance: Set up a fishing outpost on the water, It should have a chest for fishing rods, a chest for fish and a boat dock.

    - Pew pew pew: Create an Archery range to test your shooting abilites!

    - Ol' dusty trail: Lay down some roads to connect the houses and other buildings

    Township
[Restrictions: none, go crazy, but responsibly crazy, and be inside before dark!]

You've made a lot of progress now! Notch is impressed at how you've handled Life 2.0, and has allowed the use of diamonds in the world.

    - 5 Stars: Build a Hotel/Motel or apartment block at least 5 stories high.

    - Ow my feet: Lay down a road that leads to a nice sandy beach.

    - A fresh track: Set up a minecart system that goes around the town.

    - Oh god that's cold:Build a public swimming pool with an awesome hydroslide!

    - I can see clearly now: Make a lighthouse near the beach.

    - Honey i'm home: Build some more houses and connect them to the roads

    Self proclaimed king!

You're calling yourself the king of the place you're currently at. It might be a good idea to give it a name, maybe then some people will come...

    - Let's delegate: Build a town hall for meetings and other kingly things you need to do.

    - Industrial Age: Make an industrial factory where all the ores from the mine will get smelted. This should include about 20 furnaces and a whole lot of chests.

    - Don't hit an iceberg: Make a port on the ocean which can hold between 5 and 10 boats, and has a pier.

    - Bookworm: Build a library with an enchanting table in it.

    - Whats that smell: Construct a sewer system under houses which leads out to the ocean

    - Target Practice: Build a watchtower that has a chest with some bows in it, and a chest with stacks of arrows and you should be able to shoot into an unlit area.

    - No, it's art: Build an art gallery with a secret room behind one of the pictures.

    End of an era?

You've been in Life 2.0 for a long time, you know you're getting old and want to be able to leave this place with a smile on your face because of how proud you are because of all your accomplishments.

    - Oh Hell: Build a nether portal in a safe location.

    - Praise: Construct a Church where you can pray to your favorite deity.

    - Party Time: Make a nightclub with a colorful floor, and a jukebox with at least 5 discs

    - In honor of me: Create a statue or some type of memorial in your name to leave behind once you are gone, to show that you were the creator of this glorious place!

    - Teleportation: Find a stronghold.

    Final Days:

It's been a good run, and you've done so much, but it's time to finish it all.

    - Slay the Ender Dragon.

After you have slain the Ender Dragon, you have 1 Minecraft week left to do what is listed. Feel free to do anything else that isn't listed though. Everything in this list is optional apart from the last item on the list

    - Oh Romeo: Build a theater (Modern or Ancient)
    - Time to skate: Build an ice skating rink
    - Wet: Build a waterpark
    - Shovels and snow: Build a spleef arena
    - Gushing: A grand waterfall
    - Sorry we're closed: A 2 or more story shopping mall
    - Turnup: Build a tavern to get yo drank on
    - To Arms: Build an armory
    - Imagine: Build anything you want to

    - Watch the final sunset of your adventure.

    After the final sunset

You've done it. You have lived a full life, and done so much while starting from nothing. You had no idea what you were doing when you were first put into Life 2.0, and now you leave a king, who built his kingdom from the ground up. As you close your eyes for the last time you take one final deep breathe and enjoy the air....

Your eyes snap open. You're lying in your bed, from Life 1.0. You rub your head and think about how real that dream seemed. You walk into the kitchen and see a note on your table. You pick it up and know who it's from as soon as you see the writing.

"We would like to thank you very much for helping us test Life 2.0. With your help we've managed to work many of the kinks out that we had in it. We are hoping to release it officially in a few years, and we hope you will join us again when it's ready.

    Kind Regards,
    Notch"

So pretty much every challenge I see is like "BUILD A HOUSE AND THEN GET (x) COBBELSTONES LOL"
And that's why I'm making this. I want this to involve multiple things, since I know people like doing things in Minecraft, like building, spelunk in caves, or fight mobs all night long. And since I'm not much of a builder myself it gets boring building square houses and other square buildings that challenges want me to do. I haven't really thought too much into this challenge yet, so everything is open to change and probably will be changed. Opinions would also be good for this, as I can just add them in and now I feel like I'm rambling so I'll just get into it.

    Lore:

A bright flash of white light. From nothing to everything. A consciousness. A body, a real, physical body. You hold your hands out in front of you and think about what they are for. Thought - you have thought! You manage to get yourself up from the ground and after wobbling around a bit, find it possible to stand on your 2 new legs. You turn your head left and right, and left and right again. Then you manage to take a few steps after stumbling and nearly falling again. You hear the grass crunch behind you, and you manage to turn around to see a man in a black coat and hat. You know who this is. This is your creator, your maker, the divinity who gave you life.
"Steve." His voice booms, shaking the leaves on the trees, yet it seems calming to you. "You have been created to help me. I need to take a break to do some other stuff, involving cards and whatnot, so this land is all yours to shape. You have the knowledge of how to make this land change to what you want it to be. This is an experiment to see if life can thrive here. I leave you with the power of imagination and creation, and I hope you will make this land glorious."
Then, he's gone and you're alone again. Alone, for now

    The Challenge

    The first days:
[Restrictions: You can only use your fists and wooden tools for this stage, sorry bud, but you're just getting started]

After Notch had left you alone, he imbued you with the power of creation. Time to put it to work.

    - Build yourself a small shack or house or domesticate a part of a cave before night time.
    - This should be made out of either: Wood, planks dirt or gravel.
(NOTE: Not a proper house, just an average night shelter type thing)

    - Craft a crafting bench, and make a basic set of wooden tools.

    - Light up your house/shack to prevent those nasty mobs getting to you.

    - Build a furnace, and cook some food in it. Gotta keep alive somehow.

    OPTIONAL

    - Go and slay some Zombies during the night and get up a few levels

    - Watch the very first sunset of the world.

    - Gather some flowers and plant them around your house

    You Survived!
[Restrictions: Congrats! You can now use stone tools as Notch gave you the power to create them during the night! You may collect Iron, but no smelting it yet]

Notch sends his congratulations on your survival of the first night. Because he ran out of certificates with the little scratch and smell stickers, he just decided to show you how to craft stone tools instead.

    - Upgrade time! Make a set of stone tools

    - Another upgrade time! Build a proper house for you to live in.
    - This house must include: A bed, your crafting table, your furnace and a double chest.

    - If your house is situated near water, hoe the land and plant some seeds. If your house is not near water, go and kill some animals for food.

    - Do you even lift bro? Kill a zombie with your fists.

    - It's time to get resources! Make a 3x3 or larger mineshaft.

    OPTIONAL

    -Go and explore a cave

    Getting there!
[Restrictions: You got dat iron, just no diamonds yet, my child. Please, no tears.]

Notch tried to go to the shop where they sell certificates with the scratch and smell stickers but Jeb bought the last ones, so Notch gave you the ability to smelt and craft with Iron. Yay!

    - UPGRADES ARE FOR THE BEST OKAY: Make a set of Iron tools.

    - Build a storage warehouse and fill it with chests.

    - Build a few more houses, who knows, maybe Notch will send some more people to join you!

    - Make a cobblestone or gravel road to connect the houses and warehouse

    - Make a greenhouse which grows more than 32 wheat

    - Safety first! Deck yourself out in full iron armour!

    - Fishing outpost: Build a fishing outpost on the water that can only be reached by boat that has a chest with a few fishing rods and space for fish.

    Township!
[Restrictions: Still no diamonds yet, baby. No, wipe those tears away! But go crazy with anything else]

Notch finally managed to get some certificates with the smelly stickers on them, but they are lost in the mail, so he's waiting for it to arrive!

    - Build an apartment block AT LEAST 5 stories high, with underground parking and a nicely furnished reception area. The rooms need to include: 2 Beds, 3 or more paintings, A furnace, crafting table and a chest with a book for the guests to read. (You don't actually need to write in the book)

    - BEACH DAY! Lay down a road that leads to a nice sandy beach

    - Make your mine (if you haven't already) into a branch mine, and find some diamonds!

    - Build a community pool with a hydro-slide OR a movie theatre. Bonus points if you build both

    - The town is growing, and needs decisions to be properly delegated! Build a town hall, which includes: A meeting room, a treasury, a reception and the mayors office.

    - The town has got to be fed! Make a farm with at least 2 animals that drop food. The farm must also include: A barn, and a farmhouse. The animals must also be kept outside in separate pens.

-Build a sawmill WITH a tree farm in it.

    - 5 more houses

    OPTIONAL

    - Add a wheat section to the farm, and have all types of animals in the farm.

    A New King!
[Restrictions: None, you are the king and the world is yours for the taking!]
The township has voted you King! I'd be surprised if they didn't, but yay! Notch has gone on holiday to a mystical, and very far away place called Swedenland, and so he's let you just do your thing.

    - Fine Dining - Build your citizens a cafe where only the finest Bread and Steak is served.

    - It's time to live like the king you are, and build yourself either a Castle or a Mansion. This must include furnishings and every room must have either blue, red or yellow carpet.

    - Citizens just keep joining your city. Build an industrial factory where the workers can spend their days smelting ores. This factory must include at least 20 furnaces and have 3 chimneys. Also put a lava incinerator in here.

    - Some of the more smarter citizens enjoy reading the odd book, build them a library!

    - Word has reached you of other kingdoms and cities outside your known area! Build a sea port/dock with a few boats for travel and trade.

    - Travelling time! Build a portal to the nether in a separate room, containing essentials to surviving the nether.

    - Build a Lighthouse near the port, out of either Lava or glowstone for the light, to guide ships at night.

    - Another apartment building, this one bigger than the last!

Nearing the end of your reign!

    - Build a brewery, when you can kick back and chug some Strength II

    - Build the Church of Notch, where Notch is celebrated with Bacon!

    - Erect a statue or memorial in your name, as the founder of the great kingdom

    - Build a watchtower slightly away from your town, with a chest that has a few bows and few stacks of arrows.

    - If you haven't got one already, make an enchanting room in your castle with enough bookshelves to get level 30 enchants.

    - Build a railway station, which goes from one end of the city to the other, and second track that goes off into the distance, perhaps to the start of another city?

    Just before your deathbed...
[Restrictions: You have 1 Minecraft week to do as many as these things as possible, then your time as king is over, and you join notch. There is no order in which you can do these, and you don't have to do all of them]

You only have a few days left as king, before you must pass on. You have accomplished so much, given people hope, and a place to live. You feel like giving them a few more things before you are done.

    - Proper roads between places (5 wide, made out of black wool with white stripes down the middle)

    - Sewer system in each house, leading out ultimately to the ocean.

    - A grand waterfall with a secret room behind the water.

    - A park with benches, trees, a walkway and a garden.

    - A 2 story shopping mall for them kids to loiter in

    - Spleef arena, with stands

    - An indoor pool, with a lanes pool, recreational pool, and a hot tub.

    - An Art Gallery with a secret room behind one of the pictures

    - A night club with a jukebox, 5 or more discs and a very colorful floor.

    - A graveyard for those poor souls lost during the construction of this kingdom

    - A theatre (modern or ancient greek, or both!)

    - And finally, build a balcony on your mansion/castle if you don't already have one, and watch the last sunset before your time as king is up.

    -After the last sunset-

Blackness. Nothing but blackness... what's this? A light? It's so far away! Wait, it's coming closer! It's engulfing you! You can't see it's all too bright! But then, a shadowy figure.. watching you from the receding darkness... it looks like you... but it has only white eyes... Then, it's gone. You turn around to find Notch sitting on a very comfortable leather chair, pressing buttons on something you've never seen before. He stops looking at the square giving off light and swivels around to face you. A smile lights up his face and he booms "I knew it! Thank you so much! I knew you could do it! You have built a kingdom from the ground up, and helped everyone in your kingdom, given them hope when it seemed lost, motivated them when they thought they couldn't go on. I am so proud of you!" He puts his arm around your shoulders and leads you over to a ledge... from there you can see your kingdom! You can see all the people mourning the great kings death. And as time goes on you see the kingdom continue growing, the people using everything you taught them to make their town even greater.

You've watched for so long, that they now have a Utopia. A perfect city.
