Just found this thread. Seems pretty interesting, and I like furries (I don't even think I spelled that right), so I'm going to be checking back here after school.
Typically it takes 3-5 years of learning before you can even attempt to make anything more than a basic game like snake or pong.
For language, whatever you're comfortable with. Language is nothing but a tool, there is minimal difference between the main ones in terms of end functionality, although if you plan on getting serious you will want to go C++, C# and Python.
The actual game making process, will take another couple of years if it is anything more than a basic thing.
If you plan on having it in 3D, add even more time to all that. Making 3D models is incredibly involved and very complicated. It requires a LOT of skill, time, patience, and practice.
Of course, no one does all of these things, which is why people usually are on a team of people. You will never make a game if you do everything by yourself, it will simply take too long.
I'm going to have to disagree with this.
While there is no such thing a 'best' language they are all generally pretty similar.
But 3-5 years of studying to create a basic game? No, that isn't right at all.
I've been studying Java for less than that time and I've developed small games before, and after I find time to (I'm typing this from school), and learn how to use JLWGL I will begin developing better games.
The engine you are developing in may have a variance of coding languages. Some use C#, some use C++, it's all different.
Personally, I don't like to make anything in a pre built game engine, it just doesn't seem like I'm doing much work for a lot of output.
In the "Render Controls" window, go to the "Sky" tab. Check "Volumetric Fog."
Then go to the "Lighting" tab. Ensure that "Enable Sunlight" is checked, and point your view in the 3d preview to where you want the sun to be in the sky. Play around on the "Sun Yaw" and "Sun pitch" sliders. ("Yaw" is basically time of year, and "Pitch" is basically time of day)
Some of my first renders. I intend to make some better structures to render later. (Maybe re-create IRL scenes in minecraft?) All I can say is, Epic program, bro. I also like the chunk-deletion capabilities. Very useful if you have used all resources by your base.
Chruch made by Me.
Spawn for beta.redstone-info.net (IDK original creator)
I should have loaded more chunks on the castle, but i didnt, so the water kinda derped. But its not worth another 3 hour render to me.
Nice renders!
Don't worry I didn't notice the missing chunks until you said something.

What I was trying to say is I'm going to be making more sophisticated games most likely sooner than 3 years into my studying period.
Also, your idea of a more 'complex' game may be different than mine.

Agreed, first idea sounds great. Could be the next indie horror game of popularity if it's ever made and it has some nice visuals.
Also, I think someone should start a mega-thread for 'Video Game Ideas'.
EDIT: Done !

Checking off 'Volumetric Fog' should do the trick.

Beautiful.
Would love to see more of this build. Is it on a server?

Why?

It's a really fun RTS MMO.

Also, did anyone know that mirrors are actually slightly green?

How are we all today?

But even then, you might not even be able to bend the paper and still have it springy. Or you may not be able to bend it at all!
