What is this mod all about?
This mod centers around stars, black holes, and all the powers and disasters that accompany them.
What can I do with this mod?
All of this mod is documented via ingame tooltips, if you would prefer to figure it out yourself, you may do so. I have provided some images down below for those who do not.
How do I get started?
The first thing you need to craft is called the Heart of Star, this will be your gateway into everything in the mod. Yes, it is quite expensive, but you can recoup some of the expense later.
Image:
Descriptions:
Blocks:
Black Hole Storage: Can store 2^40 (about 1 trillion) items AND liquids (of one type).
Black Hole Hopper: Pulls from inventories up to 6 blocks away, and inserts them into the inventory it is attached to. Also pulls in nearby items.
Star Harvester: Creates power from stars. The rate is variable based on the star. Looks really cool. The base block:Gif of the animation:
This block must first have a star container inserted into it, then a star. It will then begin to generate power.
Waypoint: This block serves as a marker for anything you may need. It shows up visibly in the sky, much like a beacon, and can be named and colored. It will show up on the HUD of the Gravity Helmet.
Black Hole (NYI):?????????
Oh and did I mention that most of these blocks have their own local gravity? Yeah.
Items:
Stars: Currently the main item in the mod. Created in a violent explosion, these items can provide you power for a loooong time. They are also used in most recipes.
Gravity Armor: Protection from a large amount of damage, as well as a large array of useful modules, see below:
Description of all current modules:
Gravity Resist The base effect of the armor, conteracts all gravitational sources and makes you float as if you were in microgravity. Applies to: ALL Modes: ON, OFF
Tool-Switcher When activated, it picks the best tool in your hotbar for the current block you are mining. Applies to: Chestplate Modes: ON, OFF
HUD Shows a compass on the top of your screen, and also some useful notifications in the bottom left, such as when armor abilities are toggled on and off. Also allows you to see all your waypoints and their names, so that you may easily navigate to any of them. Applies to: Helmet Modes: ON, Compass Only, Text Only, OFF
Field: Anti-Grav:All entities nearby, in a certain (configurable) radius, will slowly float upwards around you, as if their gravity was reversed. Repulsor: Repels all nearby entities from the player. Attractor: Attracts all nearby entities to the player. Applies to: Chestplate Modes: Anti-Grav, Repulsor, Attractor, OFF
Other Features:
An achievement system! This mod has many achievements to help guide you along, as well as some enhancements for vanilla achievements.
In-game config editing! This mod is among the first to support the new forge feature. From the main menu, simply go to mods -> select Super Massive Tech -> config, and you will be able to configure most anything without restarting the game!
Notes:
This mod is in an alpha state. While it is mostly stable many things are temporary and/or missing.
Here is a basic list:
Recipes are temporary. Many of the Black Hole items have stars in their recipe where it would be a black hole.
The waypoint recipe is much more expensive than I would like, but I am missing some features in the waypoint block required to change it.
Black holes are NYI, and will be a major part of the mod. See the poll at the top of the page.
Visuals will improve. I realize the stars are a bit lackluster at this time.
More mod support will come. I need NEI plugins for some of my recipes and things like that.
Downloads (1.7.2 and 1.7.10):
Notice: I am currently working on black holes and doing a major overhaul, moving much of the mod's code to a new core mod. You can find unsupported dev builds here.
Fix star harvester power buffer not writing to NBT
Fix hopper not functioning with doDaylightTick disabled
Small tweak to the way differing abilities are calculated
Hard dep on forge 1090
New license
Add anti-grav field to armor abilities. Hilarity ensues.
Fix some math mistakes in anti-grav and add some config options.
Fix some derps and remove debugging code.
Build 67:
Initial release.
Spotlights:
1. By Danilus
A few caveats about this video:
You can never lose a star when you create them. It is a vanilla quirk that they turn invisible, but they are still there, turn on attractor mode if you don't believe me .
The Black Hole Hopper will attract and suck in ANY nearby item entities, the configuration doesn't matter for those, only the surrounding inventories.
The star going critical isn't broken, it's just not implemented. It will be a part of creating black holes.
The armor isn't causing the debuffs you saw, it's the blocks in your inventory. They are heavy!
Showing the waypoint GUI and how you can configure it. This is a rather neat and important features that I think improves the usefulness of the block if people know about it.
The armor keybinds can conflict, mentioning this lets people know they don't need separate keybinds for all the powers.
The poll didn't have "Changing the name" as an option so here's one.

Most people really like the name, I don't see a need to change it.
Also, the mod is not focused on stars. I have a lot of plans for future items, stars are not the end of the line. I like the current name as it is open-ended and covers all things supermassive

I'll just call it SMT for now
Those future item better meet the expectation of supermassive, or else....

Alright, so it looks like most people want the black holes to be the next feature, I'll get started on those soon.
Thanks to everyone who's checked it out!
Side note: I'm very willing to have a spotlight made if anyone wants to do so. I have some documentation in the works but a video would be nice as well. Thanks if you decide to take it on

Hey look, a decent animation for star formation!
This is a really early prototype but I've been working on trying to get the item in the middle looking right. Now that that's solved I can move forward more :).

Alright, build 72 is out with some much needed and requested features.
The armor states are now based on strings instead of booleans! This means that a powerup can have more than just the default On/Off states. This allows for...
The Attractor and Repulsor modes! These much requested modes attract/repel entities from the player.
More HUD modes! You can now choose to display ONLY the compass, or ONLY the text.
Finally, in builds 70/71 I added the ability for anti-grav to affect nearby falling blocks such as sand and gravel. It's tons of fun

That looks awesome
It's so pretty...
Sorry, I got distracted.
Black holes next.
I promise.
I don't believe you.
There's some nice config options for it, and it's really fun to use :P.
Full changelog will be updated in the post, and here:
Download link has been updated on my site, enjoy!
Black hole wasn't next. Called it.
If this is broken here is the link.
First basic prototype. Currently does nothing and has no animation or particles, but it's infinitely more than I had before

Enjoy!
Firstly, I've added achievements, along with an extra little bonus to all achievements in the game.
Secondly, and very excitingly, I've added support for the new ingame config added by forge. See the post for more details on this.
Finally, some bugfixes as always.
Enjoy!
