I´m currently working on Minecraft mod which allows you to use your mobile device as a "second screen" or info screen.
It is designed to be installed on the server only, but you can also install it on your Minecraft client and show informations while playing in a singleplayer world.
The corresponding app can display serverinformations, like online players or motd, live player infomations, like health and foodlevel, worldinformations, like weather or time.
The most interestings parts are probably the following two:
The mod allows you to mark blocks with a label, then the app tells you whether this block is powered by redstone or not. So you can for example see on your phone if there are items in your mob farm or if your quarry (Buildcraft) is finished or whatever you can think of. I also might implement a backchannel which allows you to change redstone signals.
The second most interesting feature is the inventory viewer, which allows you to view your inventory on your android device.
So all in all this app can be used in two situations:
1. While playing to show additional informations or to allow you to disable the ingame HUD.
2. While beeing not on the server to show informations about the world or other players.
I´m still working on the mod and the app, which doesn´t look great yet.
I would love to get some feedback or suggestions what I could improve or implement.
Put the mod-jar in your server´s (or client´s) mod folder
Make sure the port 25566 (configurable via config file) is open on your server. (If you are using this mod only in a local network(client ir server) you probably don´t have to care. Same goes for hamachi networks. But if you host a online server yout either have to open the port yourself (if possible) or ask your hoster to do it (Nitrado.net for example does this on founded request)
Install the Android-app and set your servers ip (if you don´t know your clients ip use the command /getIP) and port and your Minecraft nickname in the settings menu. At the moment you then have to close the app completly to make the settings change valid.
Usage:
Most stuff happens by itself.
If you want to either prevent random people from connecting to your server or if you want to prevent some people on the server to use some control functions, you can set the config option "auth_required" to true. Then everyone who wants to use the app has to use the command /mss register ingame. Then he can enter the password in the app ans is able to connect to the server again.
If you want to disable some features for some users, go to /secondscreen/mss-users, open the file named after the user and change the permissions (the user has to use the feature, before it appears there).
If you want to overve the redstone status of a block in the world, look at the block and use the command /mss redinfo add . Then the block´s status should appear in the app.
If you want to control redstone in the world, use the method above but look at a lever. The lever should then appear in the app and should be controlable.
That's planned.
I'm currently trying to find out how I can implement it. I'm currently considering using costume texture packs in the app (which probably is hard to implement) or using a tool which extracts the icons from a Minecraft client.
It might be that the inventory isnt showing up in the app atm at least for for modded minecraft versions.
I´m will be changing a lot of stuff in the next time, so the app/mod might not work all the time.
If someone already want to use this mod and not just want to try it out, please tell me and I will try to make a temporary stable version.
I finished the login system, the redstone control and the chat ability.
The mod should be more useful now.
Just download the new mod version and replace the old one.
You also need to update the app. (The update might be not available yet on Google Play, just wait an hour or two).
I would be happy to hear some more feedback, feature requests or bugreports.
Now available for all devices!
