This challenge works with all recent Minecraft versions/editions
Steve is trapped in the Nether with limited items. You must help him build a portal to escape the hellish landscape and return to the Overworld once again.
Rules:
-Each player must have only 10 in their inventory
-Each player must build their own portal
-You cannot enter through portals other players created
-You can enable pvp if you want the challenge to be more difficult
-You cannot use cheats of any kind
-You will not succeed in the challenge if you die
To begin the challenge, create a portal and all players enter.
Destroy the portal, follow the rules, and set gamemode to survival.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I believe in a recent update that Obsidian can now be found in Nether Fortress chests
Yes, that is true. I found flint and steel and obsidian during the last time I played this challenge. In older versions of Minecraft, it might not be possible to do this challenge.

Without obsidian, you can't. But if you don't have a flint and steel, ghasts and blazes can light the portal via their explosions creating fire.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
You can also make a fire charge with items available in the nether.
I guess it is a possibility, but the chance of you getting gunpowder from a Ghast in the Nether without a bow and arrow drop from a skeleton isn't very likely.

Here is a quick place for reference on chest loot in the Nether. http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Nether_fortress
This is extremely useful if you do not know what you can find in the Nether.
I was able to make a full set of golden armor along with a few diamond tools during the last time I tried this challenge.

This actually sounds like a great challenge, but I'm sure you won't finish without rage quitting at least twice.
Can you use lava to ignite a portal in the Nether like you can in the above world?
