Is water glitched in this new update or what?? TWICE now my animals have sunk to the bottom of some water and stood there while they drowned instead of swimming up (a horse and now one of my two dogs). After trying to save my first dog who drowned, I turned around and saw my other dog just standing under water too! So I mashed escape to pause because I can't think of how to save him!
The water is two blocks deep. I don't have a lead, but I do have some wood blocks. The dog has been underwater for at least a number of seconds, but hasn't started taking drowning damage. I don't have any meat on me. Please help with some ideas!
EDIT: And yes, I know I'm taking this too seriously lol...but AI or not, I just grow attached to the animals I tame in the game.
I managed to save him by building blocks around him, dumping out a water bucket I discovered I had in my inventory, and picking up the water source just above him. Apparently there was no water in his actual square so I guess the water above was exerting a downward draft that he couldn't swim up from? (I had previously dug up some sand from there, it used to be a one-block high lake.) Makes sense but still doesn't explain what happened to my horse the other day, who drowned in a natural river I hadn't touched. Sigh. Well at least I managed to save one dog.
Anyway, @Grave, thanks for trying to help. I would've tried your method but there was nowhere to move him to, and I was afraid he wouldn't teleport because he was underwater. I read somewhere they don't teleport if they can't "see" you or something and I didn't want to chance it.
Yeah, downward flowing water because a source block wasn't occupying that area. Didn't know about the teleport thing but I've never ran into this problem personally.
Nice save, keep that in mind next time you have an animal drowning.

I don't know if the teleport thing is legit, or if it is, how it actually works. It's just something I read somewhere. But yeah, I will definitely keep that in mind. I used dirt to fill the lake back up to 1 block deep and next time I mine from the bottom of a lake I'm definitely going to make sure to replace whatever I mined with more dirt.

Don't punch too many times as you'll kill him. Space out punches so that they actually help move him, assuming punching will even help.

Ain't it the truth.
