A while ago, Mojang created the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) system for Minecraft to support name changes. There are tools online to help you find your UUID, but this is a tutorial to obtain the information using nothing but your Minecraft client.
1. Launch Minecraft 1.8+
2. Create a new world.
3. Quit the world as soon as it loads.
4. Get to your .minecraft folder. The easiest way is to go to Resource Packs, open the folder, and go up one folder level as follows:
5. From the .minecraft folder, choose "saves" and open the folder with the same name as the world you just created.
6. Once in the world folder, open the "playerdata" folder.
7. The name of the file in the folder is your Universally Unique Identifier. Success!
