Hello. I just downloaded the new launcher for minecraft 1.6.1 and when I wanted to download some mods I noticed that my Bin folder was gone. I tried deleting my .minecraft folder and starting minecraft up again, I deleted minecraft and downloaded again. nothing seemed to help. do you guys have any sollutions for this ?
Thankss.
Right. And I wonder which mod would work with 1.6.1 at this point anyway?
Arxus: The jar is now located in the \.minecraft\versions\1.6.1\ folder (win 7 64 bit) and is called 1.6.1.jar
Not that it will help you install anything in it yet.
I ran into this problem as well. I had to delete the minecraft folder in order to do a forced restart (since the new launcher does not have an options menu) and when I reinstalled MC, there was no longer a bin folder. If a mod just needs to be installed in the 1.6.1.jar, then you would just need to go to the versions folder as ShutEye said. I am new to the game, so I do not understand where mods need to be installed too.
Edit: I found out what to do. This YT video explains it all
PenguinNewked oh and the link is no longer working for the video well this is also having this problem on 1.8 also when will these moders will learn not to make mods that use the bin folder sins 1.6.1 has not had the bin folder and now it is 1.8 and still dont have the damn bin folder and a lot of the mod installers still use the mincraft.jar to install and not the 1.6.1.jar - 1.8.jar to install the mods ive ran in to that a lot and it is making me mad
I have 1.8.1 and I can't find the .jar, I'm not very good at this sort of thing and I downloaded a mod only to see there was no bin. I don't know WHAT to do or HOW to do it. I'm just looking for some useful answers.

Search for Minecraft Forge and download the installer. I would reccomend 1.7.10 as your version. Run minecraft with the forge profile and a mods folder will appear. Put the mod(s) in that folder.

I knew most of everything about Minecraft, until 1.8 and 1.9....now I'm just totally confused....
Although I have a PS3 and Wii U, I don't have any console edition.
hes wrong, there is a bin folder, but its much easier now, in 1.8.1 (before 1.2.5) you needed to do everything like delete meta-inf Now all you do if DL minecraft forge, now if you remember forge before 1.2.5 and up to 1.2.5, it was AWFUL, and you normally stuck with mod loader until you ran out of indices. now it is more stable than minecraft its self, all you have to do is download the version accordingly, preferably 1.7.10 from here : files.minecraftforge.net, click show all dls, click the installer, and run it with JAVA not 7ZIP, then it will install, now go to edit profile in the bottom left of the launcher interface, select the dropdown, and select minecraft forge X.XX.XX
your done!! run it, then quit, then take that mod and throw it in the mods folder, STILL COMPRESSED, Example: AM2.jar treecapitator 1710.zip
Questions? let me know
Minecraft forge has NO indices range that is significant, EVER, get all the mods you want
Thankss.

Watch that video to learn how to install mods. I found that video very informative.
It's not that we (the folks experiencing issues) 'won't' watch the video...we can't. The links are broken.

I was plagued by doubts, fears, and mysteries, you had to know how lonely I was...
You will probably notice most of the mods will be .jars, but there are some .zips still.
