I am having a problem with Minecraft. I've searched the forum and found the problem, but the solutions offered do not work.
When launching Minecraft it says New Update Available, would you like to update?
When yes is selected, I get the following error:
Failed to launch. Fatal error occurred (4): /Users/MyName/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
When not now is selected, I get the following crash report:

When force update is selected, I get the following error:
This Happends to me 2 but it just wont do anything ive reinnstalled Minecrsft but it wont pull it up it has the same error I Just wont work ive done everything HELP ME PLEASE
The same thing happened to me.
Went through the posts, and suggestions and tried forcing the update.
I tried deleting the .minecraft Folder.
I even logged in as Administrator, and changed folder permissions
Then I went to download a new minecraft.exe file.
the site "s3.amazonaws.com" could not be reached...
So I opened my HOSTS File, and sure enough the site was blocked...
I renamed the hosts file, and copied the original hosts file back into place.
everything downloaded fine....
So if anyone else has this problem, first check and see if you can reach the download site... s3.amazonaws.com
If it is blocked, you will have to disable your firewall, remove any black lists, or get some administrator help.
I'm sure I couuld spen hours typing ways to change all these things, but they are always different on each machine.. So just search for directions either in help files, or on your favorite search engine, and you will find how to change these things, they are well document on the internet.
Good Luck to All.
P.S. Maybe if some of the developers see this, they can change to a more trusted site for there downloads.
Cheers!
Could be because you're trying to update a .jar with Modloader to a vanilla .jar. Did you keep a vanilla version? If you did, switch minecraft.jar to minecraft_Modloader.jar, and your vanilla backup to minecraft.jar. Else, I have no idea. All I know is that I saw modloader in that error log, and mods don't take well to being in a .jar that's updating.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
For backwards time travel to be possible, wouldn't every instant in the universe have to be stored somewhere, or time to be something physical you could travel through? Either way doesn't work with the current laws of physics.
The same thing happened to me & I was freaking out!! >__< ! Well this will help u if u have mods. When you go into the minecraft folder bin there should be a FOLDER instead of a file that says minecraft.jar (its not real its mods) Your going to want to remove that from it and search for a FILE minecraft.jar. Put that in there instead if already not.. Once your done with that update ^__^ and you can put ur mod thingy back if u want to. ENJOYYY ^____^
Hey I read what you said and I am having trouble. The trouble started when I put in minecraft version 1.2.6 Alpha. I replaced the minecraft version 1.5.1 Current and put in the alpha version. I followed videos and i'm 100% positive that I did it correctly because the game seemed to work.
Then after I re-installed 1.5.1 Current, the "Fatal error occurred (4)" thing popped up. I tried force updating it, it didn't work. I deleted the minecraft folder and tried to run it on the official minecraft website, same problem. So the minecraft folder re-installed and I tried to play it when it gave me 2 options.
Would you like to update? Yes or Not Now. Since I knew that clicking yes would lead me to the error, I clicked Not Now. When I clicked it, the minecraft loaded like normal until it froze on the last few spaces for the update.
Please help me. I wish to return to my minecraft world and play like before.
Try this.
Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
You see the files host and host.txt?
You need to open both with a text editor,
then remove the lines that say include:
minecraft.net
minecraft.org
minecraft.com
s3.amazonaws.com
They are impeding your internet connection to these sites.
DO NOT REMOVE THE LINE THAT SAYS "localhost"
