Hello guys. I'm trying to play Lan Minecraft with my friend. I own Asus Laptop and he has Macbook Pro. We can both host and see each other hosting, but when we try to connect it just keeps saying "connection timed out". I have searched for solutions on the web: I've tried changing host to something like :
xxx.xxx.x.x MacbookProName.local
I tried to start a local server using bukkit, but he can't even see it.
I also tried both WIFI and Computer-Computer networks.
Trying to find the Bukkit server using LAN worlds wouldn't work. Try getting your friend to type "ipconfig" into Command Prompt. There should be a number starting with 192.168
Try to connect to the server with above address, but it needs to be on.
You may also try to port forward the default port Minecraft uses. Yes. Even on LAN, you might sometimes (depending on you Router) have to port forward the connection.
The default port for any Minecraft Server/Lan Server is: 25565.
So a short guide would look like this. (May vary from Router too Router though.)
Login to you Router from your browser (Usually the IP address is "192.168.0.1", "192.168.1.1" or even "192.168.2.1".)
If you have never used the login to your Router, the Username & Password combination is usually something like "admin/password", "admin/<blank>" or "admin/admin". (Sometimes this information is also diplayed on a sticker beneath your Router.)
Now go to something named like "Ports" or a like. Type in your Local IP adress and make the port (25565) both TCP and UDP.
You should now be able to connect to each other. If you are having problems, search your Router up on Google. Ie: Belkin (Modul Number) Port Forward. (Only using Belkin, as a example.)
You are of course welcome to ask away some more. ;-)
THanks for the reply!
I have tried opening ports for minecraft, even those ports which are written when you start lan server (they differ from 25565). Either bukkit or lan server doesn't work. The only is when you try to connect to the server using lan it says "Failes to connect to the server, Operation timed out" instead of "connection timed out". I'll upload a picture of what I've done tomorrow, have no opportunity atm.

I went to my firewall and allowed java to bypass it
