Mods are not compatible with the new snapshot. If the mod your using apparently is compatible, you should let them know it doesn't work (they will probably ask for the stack trace).
Having heaps of problems with this game since I purchased it for my son a few weeks back, unfortunatly this is the first time I've been able to spend the time to take a look at his problems and I'm tearing my hair out.
Firstly, he can only play the game on the browser on my pc, we've tried it on 2 other pc's in the house, one is his and nada. His pc seems to be the worst as trying to log in and create a forum account on it was getting me nowhere either as the security words didn't even come up on the screen, and neither did the FAQ's properly, I had to do a prt scrn when I refreshed just so i could read the specs in paint!!
His specs are ok, I've just updated all drivers and for the record he plays WoW on it no problem
The main problem as with this pc I'm typing on (as he's hogging mine!) is the same Java Error.
Additionally we can't use the game downloaded on any of the pc's.... So, someone let me know who I need to raise a ticket with PLEASE! Or I feel a refund request coming on...
Hey Cree100,
Minecraft is probably the buggiest game known to man. I can take a closer look at this issue if I get the error reports from the game. Just follow these intructions:
* Make sure you have the .EXE version of the launcher (it will have a minecraft grass icon)
[1] Open notepad
[2] Type in the following:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe -jar minecraft.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe -jar minecraft.exe
pause
[3] Go to File > Save As and on the Save as Type dropdown box select All Files.
[4] Name the file run.bat and save the file in the same location of your minecraft launcher.
[5] make sure the minecraft launcher is named minecraft or minecraft.exe.
[6] Run the file, and copy - paste the contents of the command prompt window here.
Also, getting a refund is a long shot with Mojang.
Cee100 your problem is unrelated, or maybe not if you are trying to run a minecraft.jar for a snapshot. Did you download and try to run a regular release version (currently 1.2.5) from minecraft.net website? Is his java up to date?
Snapshots are prerelease versions that do not contain a launcher and require a working minecraft to put file(s) in the right place per instructions for the prerelease. The current 12w21b snapshot even requires a dummy server file as the server is being integrated into the client and they did not remove the code snippet yet to check for server file.
Maybe it would help determine the cause if people list more complete specific Java errors.
Also, thank-you for your help Cee 100, wacossusca34, and efflandt. I had no idea my problem was just that I did't download the server. I'll let you know if I reach anymore problems.

Okay so perhaps I am not doing any of this right... can someone give me the steps to install and play the snapshot please? After you click on the links for the client and server to download them, what happens after that???

Every time I have tried to install a mod, I get the message "A Java Exception has occurred". That's all it says!!! I have no idea what to do, and am losing hope of ever installing a mod. What is a Java Exception anyway? Why is this so difficult? AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!
