Right, iv'e been having this problem ever since I brought my new Hp Pavilion Dv6000 With AMD Quad core.
I can play minecraft for less than 5 minutes and then my display driver will just crash leaving my minecraft with a black screen.
I dont know if this has anything to do with minecraft or just my graphics card/video card.
Here is some more info
Video card: AMD Radeon HD 6470M
Processor: AMD Phenom II P960 Quad-core
I have a Fan for my laptop so its got nothing to do with overheating.
Thanks if you can help :smile.gif:(ask if you want more detail)
I have exacatly the same problem. Radeon 6770M / Intel HD Graphics Family (switchable graphics). I can play on Intel, but with very low details and 20 fps, on Radeon Minecraft works fine on max details, but after couple minutes it crashes. Then I have to kill the java process in task manager. I have updated graphics drivers and java.
Please help! It's very annoying that I can't fully enjoy the world of Minecraft...
Everything I have done still does not work.
There are no other updates available for the graphics card, or for anything elses.
There are no apparent incompatibilities that I can find trace of.
Has anyone who is having these crashes tried Java 7? Better / worse?
Has anyone who has had it working tried Java 7?
Beyond giving up on Minecraft entirely, until it is fixed (not a fun prospect waiting), there's nothing else I can work on.
Ok, tested with Java 7, (both installing on top of existing, and completely scrubbing the system and installing Java 7).
When running Minecraft under Java 7, it crashes Much More frequently. Instead of only crashing the graphics every 3-7 minutes, it is lucky if it works for 60 seconds without crashing.
Everything is updated, and working completely well for all applications and games, Except for Minecraft and the Radeon 6630M,
I can just read the HP web site. OpenGL Applications Cannot Be Configured to Use the Discrete GPU
There are plenty of threads if you can use google? You've heard of it right? Because it's many more models, some of which do NOT have fixes available from HP. When fixes are available they require BIOS updates as well as driver updates.
I have this same issue too! Ive tried updating my drivers a billion times and nothings working. Done dozens of google searches. Tons are having this issue. It's related to a faulty driver I think but I cant fix. So frustrating!

For me it is DEFINETLY a Java issue. I can play all other games and do everything perfectly fine. even with Java. there is something about Java and Minecraft that screws up my graphics card. I can play for about 15 mins then minecraft stops responding and i have to start task manager to close minecraft. The issues started last year arround middle october and i thought i had the l.s.o.d. until i played it and i saw no lag spikes what so ever. so i did more research and came up with this... elaboration to the problem.
I've downloaded the last version (12.3) and installed it, using the included cleaner before.
After a while of gameplay, it looks fine!! (I had crashes in 10 or 20 seconds before).
Tested with my HD6770m (2gb) + Intel HD
Thank you so much! This seems to have worked for me! Before, I was running less than 30 fps on short render distance, and when I tried the fixed graphics option, the display driver would crash often after a short period of time in the game. After doing this I think I'm running about 70-90 fps with far render distance and max settings on my laptop. It's so nice now! Thanks again!
I might give the leshcat option a try later, but I'd rather avoid it if I can. I really don't like messing with outside parties if I can help it; I always seem to screw my computer up somehow when I do that.
So if anybody more closely involved can figure out how/why my AMD Radeon HD 6-something powered Sony Vaio S graphics can run Skyrim on medium-high detail for hours without freezing, yet can't sustain Minecraft on relatively low settings for over 10 seconds, that'd be great.

Well that's kind of a silly question. Skyrim is a DirectX game, and MC is an OpenGL game. That's one major reason why. Another reason is they are different games. Even if they were both DirextX or both OpenGL, one can be running into a bug, and the other might not depending upon how they use the APIs. Heck different versions of MC run into different driver bugs when they change something (multi-texturing, lighting engine, etc)
I'd suggest you do your own research, googling up info, haunt the Sony and AMD forums, figure out who or what leshcat is (I have no idea). Perhaps submit a support ticket to Sony... It's unlikely there is going to be a Minecraft specific fix to this generic driver problem.
