This started just a week or so ago. I just right click to place a block and about half the time it quickly places the first and then another on top. This is really annoying and I know it's only a minecraft problem because this isn't occurring in any other games or applications. or maybe its my mouse idk, all i know it that only in minecraft is it an issue.
Could be a physical mouse problem, try popping that button off and pushing it back in, gunk can get in between the button, or the button sensor can start to fail which can cause multi-presses of a button.
After a quick google search I was lead here, to discover that I'm not the only person with this issue. At first i thought it may have been my mouse, so I cleaned out my mouse and gave it a good inspection to find nothing is wrong with it at all. This happens regardless of what type of mouse I have connected to my computer. Including the touch pad (because I'm playing on a laptop).
Happens to me also... I just put it down to lag as I tend to do that a lot.
I'll right click to place a block and it'll place 2 very quickly and drop me to 5fps or so for a moment. Also happens if I try to harvest my reeds. Doesn't bother me too much except for when I am placing obsidian...
Happens to me as well. Constantly. Very frustrating--I have to stand just so to prevent it from happening. It's not a click speed issue--I've varied click speeds. Even messed around with the "double click speed" settings for my mouse. So far, no change.
I'm having this problem constantly. I'm wasting half of my glass because of this. I've closed out unused programs (iTunes, Firefox), went into the taskbar and closed out unnecessary processes, I even defragged and did a virus scan on my laptop. Still lags like the dickens. I'm losing a lot of resources and constantly dying from the freeze-up when an enemy comes on screen...
I just wanted to announce that I am having this problem as well in the hopes that someone will take note and find a solution. This problem started recently - in the last two weeks - on a world I've been developing for over a month.
That's really all I can add to what else has been said on the subject: placing glass and dirt blocks twice for every one block placed, can't shut doors at certain angles, etc.
1) Clean your mouse
2) Check mouse double-click speed in the settings for your mouse (in Control Panel On Windows)
3) (probably not it) Change mouse sensitivity in Minecraft options. It is the only in-game setting to effect the mouse.
So as I posted before, I had this problem. I'm not exactly sure why or how I fixed the problem - or if it will help anyone else, but here is what I did.
I noticed that when I started a new world that the problem went away. I saved a copy of my World elsewhere. I then renamed the World1 folder (just to see if I could rename it that way). Then upon opening Minecraft again, World1 was no longer there, so I started a new game. Then I promptly deleted the new World1 folder, and renamed my old one back to World1 so I could use it again. My world reappeared in the 'Open World' screen and since then the "double-clicking issue" has been almost none (still occasionally happens when near to the surface).
So my guess is simply moving or renaming your world's folder, running the game briefly, and then replacing it back in the original spot may solve the issue.
If that makes any sense, give it a try. Again, make a copy of the folder for your world before you try anything though.
Okay, im going to necro this post because this is clearly a common bug and everyone is saying the same thing without actually reading peoples posts properly
This bug has poped up WITHIN THE LAST FEW WEEKS, therefore it cannot be down to pc specs or lag.. the game has been running perfectly beforehand and ive never experience this before.
Its NOT the hardware, ive switched out 3 different mice and this still happens.
Some people are saying "click slower" or "make sure your not holding down the click", this clearly isnt the issue.. as the blocks are being placed at a FASTER rate than normal.. from both clicking fast and holding down the mouse button.
This bug ONLY happens on minecraft, ive not experenced it in any other game/program/normal computer browsing.
As far as i can tell from my own experience with the bug, its poped up since beta. And is rather anoying when trying to place glass or obsidian or other valuable blocks. It also affects buckets as ive placed down water/lava only to have it sucked back into its container in the blink of an eye
