He really is active in the community lately though, when I posted a thread on acquiring new staff, he contacted me on discord and stuff too, I think hes mostly talking about the useful part.

Developer, server management, system admin. You want it, I do it!
Want to add a suggestion and this is something I would look out for: People who say the are developers and program or code, but all they do is config plugins, these are not the same thing and a lot of the time in my experience they will grief your server or screw something up, or install a backend, and that is not good, so always look out for those types of staff, however some of them are good at that, and can be perfect, but I would start them off by asking them to send config files and plugins to you and you can upload it yourself, and check over it first, that way you are less vulnerable in that area, giving out console to anyone claiming to be a dev is not a good idea, I see it happen too often. However if they call themselves a plugin specialist, I have seen they know a bit more in my experience, but still don't go giving out FTP (Files/File Transfer Protocol) and console access.

The easiest way to filter out non-developers is to just simply ask for proof of a public plugin they have created, but the plugin must be somewhat complicated.
I wouldn't recommend anyone hire someone else to doing plugin configurations, people are better off learning it themselfs. Though there are some real professionals out there, just extremely hard to find.
Generally a server owner should never have to give out Console or FTP access, unless they are in a partnership.

On a network in my opinion, having to do pex for each individual server is a real pain, what I think is a easy way to do is let someone make a config, send it to me, and I will review and change what's needed, if needed, but professionally, you really should do it yourself, but such a pain IMO, but again it is what I do all the time. I totally agree with never giving out console, smaller servers do it too much, I think server owners don't realize all the dangers, as for most its a first time.
EDIT: Also want to add, I think some server owners should know what plugins are good and what not, I see people using outdated, unsupported perm plugins sometimes, I think they should have some recommendations, like the advantages and disadvantages of pex and group manager for example, sometimes there are conflicts and problems and I think its a good idea to know, maybe I could make a thread about just that, and it could be linked since its such a big thing to read.

I would never recommend using PEX for networks, a better permissions system for cross-network support is Luck Perms, has heaps more features than PEX. Though if someone was to swap over, Luck Perms has an integrated way of importing permissions from things like Group Manager and PEX.
I agree its nice to have help from someone with configurations, especially with permissions, but its definetely not required or needed.

Along with that edit I added, I also think owners should know what to use with server jars such as bukkit, spigot, paper, sponge, forge, vanilla, etc, and what versions are best for certain types of servers, since they each have advantages in certain areas.

Thanks for all these suggestions, all added to my list. I will be sure to update this guide today.
Another great host is http://aquatis.host. They offer $1 per gb and offer amazing support. I currently own 2 of their servers and their downtime is very low. Hardley lag on a US server (even though I'm au)

I think a personality test is a good idea during an application, so that the owners and admins know what kind of position or job to give an applicant. I saw this on a server's application and I really liked it.
I don't personally agree with this, personalities should be established during an interview.
Also a server should never really give their staff members admin or moderator straight away, they should undergo training as a helper and/or trainee so they can familiarise themselfs with the server and how it actually works.
If you wouldn't care, I may make one to help out some players, but if I did do it, would probably be a good month or so.

I don't mind if you'd like to do it.

Please feel free to continue to support this guide and give me some new suggestions.
I recommended someone here, hope they read it, this guide needs to be pinned.

Aww thank you! O/ High Five!
I've done a small tweak,
I've clarified that some plugins do not work on Paper Spigot.
Another small tweak!
I've added in a part where I explain that a developer is not the same as a plugin configurator.
I'm glad this guide has helped some people out! Continue to show support and we might get this thing pinned!

Could you possibly update my credits to my new username?
