I was a former server admin from back in ye good olde days of the 1.5-.16 era and I've been considering purchasing hosting from a company to run a modern server again. The thing is that things are pretty different now and have some questions I was hoping more experienced admin would shed some light on. I have been doing my own research and I am coming up with some ideas but I like to get it from the horse's mouth you know? Everyone says their plugin is the best or this setup is exactly the right one when you go looking for solutions to your problem. For that reason I like to hear from those int he trenches, you know? This will be pretty long winded I guess so if you're interested, I'd love to hear what you have to say about any or all of these issues I'm wrestling with.
1. What kind of anti grief software should I be running to prevent xray and movement violations like flying and fast running, fast block breaking and anti afk measures? I've been looking at GriefPrevention but I'm a little concerned it lacks flexibility.
2. How heavily do mob grinders effect the performance of a server? Can't you give me some ballpark numbers?
3. How much additional ram and hd space, ontop of my base setup, do I realistically need to host a dynamap?
4. With the semi recent EULA changes, what are some effective ways of encouraging donations that don't violate the rules?
5. How should I handle the actual money for donations? Does that go into a private bank account? Am I legally not allowed to put it in such an account? How do I maximize for transparency so donors can see I am spending their money on the server? Is there a way to set it up so donations go directly to my server host instead of to me personally?
6. What is the ideal mod platform for a 1.9.4 setup? Is craftbukkit still viable and reasonably accommodating for 1.9.4?
Every server is different so different setups will work better then they will for others, It all depends on what you want to do.
as for your first question, if you are wanting to stop xray, Fly hacking, and afk you will most likely need a few plugins:
Nocheat is still decent however SOME hacks still will get around it however there are plugins out there you can buy they do a much better job.
GriefPrevention is more for making sure players have a way to protect land.
2. This depends on the server specs, for a small server running on a decent specs mob grinders dont really effect it that much.
3. Dynamap from what i know doesn't take much at all to run.
4. Anything non-gameplay changing ie: Hats, trails, prefixes. You can also do stuff like server wide boost: one person buys a 2x exp boost and it gives all players the boost.

Bump for great justice!

6. Spigot will have better performance.
Cosmetics are allowed to sell, however.
