I am trying to deploy a texture-pack in my server.properties config file. I set everything up as it should be, the client downloads the pack just fine. When it applies the screen gets totally messed up, the floor turns transparent, walls look like mushrooms, you get the idea. Acts like the texture pack is corrupted.
Strangely, it is not corrupted. The ZIP file downloaded to my texturepacks-mp-cache folder as expected, I tried copying that ZIP to the texturepacks folder and manually loading it, loads perfectly. Exact same file, works when manually selected. It does not work if the server directs the client to use it via server.properties.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? If you want to check out the file, it is hosted at https://s3-us-west-2...hoto_64_905.zip This is a slightly modified version of the LB Photo Realism x64 pack, I had to remove a few things to get it under the 10 MB server file limit.
Bear in mind that players on the server may not have MC-Patcher, Optifine or similar and the smaller the texture pack, the easier and more likely it will work and install in-game. Also, try to avoid texture packs that use animation or custom sounds, like Glimmars Steampunk
1.5 supports HD texture packs without any mods. (only problem is the huge memory leak, which will be fixed for 1.6)
I advise not using a server texture pack. I have had 5 years experience with professional minecraft servers and have found that a lot of players are deterred by server texture packs. Just let them choose their own.
Uhh... Minecraft just turned four years old. The earliest multiplayer feature was added about three years ago.
Server texture packs are now a little over nine months old.
Thank you for all the replies, I will test with a smaller non-HD texture pack and see if it works. For now it sounds like my best move is to not use the server texture pack and just suggest that users load it themselves. I run a small co-op server that a few friends use. I was trying to get everyone on the same texture so that what one person builds will look the same one another person's screen.
