uh...not really sure how to explain it, I'll take a stab at it though. But you should probably try looking up port forwarding through google or on youtube.
Gathering Needed Info for Router
1. Figure out what kind of Router you have. Normally your router's info is on located underneath it by the barcode.
2. Look up your routers 'model'. So its model type should be listed somewhere on the router. You can always look up the provider or brand of router you have and then sift through their collection for your model as well.
3. Once you know your router model you can look up its standard 'user name' and 'password'. User names are normally admin, though passwords range from being 'admin' as well to being 'password' or even the serial number of your router.
5.Locating Internal and External IPs:
Internal IP - You can find it through your control panel then click on network connections and right click to view the Local Area Connection's 'Status'. I believe under the 'Support' tab it will have your IP Address: 192.xxx.x.x or something like that.
External IP - Use IPchicken.com or WhatsMyIP.org to find you static IP
Accessing Router & Setting up Port Forward
My room mates router is a Verizon one, So the info here will be based off of what its layout and wording was. I have no experience with other routers, but usually they are similar in interface design even if items are located/worded differently.
6. Using your static IP; type it into your web browser's address bar. This will pull up the login to your router. Depending on your model of router you will have to fill in the appropriate 'user name' and 'password' to access the router to set up the 'port' that players will use to access your server.
7. Once in your router it should have some sort of 'Port Forwarding' Tab or selection you can use.
8. You can either probably select your comp via finding its internal IP in the selections or changing it so you can just type in your Comp's Internal IP.
9. Then you have select the 'Protocol': Both
10. Source Port: 25565 as well as Destination Port: 25565
11. Forward to Port: Same as incoming Port
12. Then you tell it to 'Add' it to the rest of the ports. Then check/select your new port and hit 'Resolve'. I think you have to tell it to look at the port or something so it can recognize it.
You can check to make sure your port is transmitting/receiving by visiting canyouseeme.org.
Setting Up Server.txt file
13. I believe you leave the 'server-ip=' blank then.
- That should be it for the txt file.
Firewall Doublecheck
14. Oh and also you may want to make sure the port has a way through your fire wall. So go back into your Control Panel of your computer and select your Firewall. Its probably called Windows Firewall.
15. Go to the 'Exceptions' tab and click 'Add Port'.
16. You will want to fill in the info for your port. It askes for a 'Name' for the port as well as the 'Port Number': 25565. Then you select TCP.
17. You do the same as in 16 again, except instead of selecting TCP you select UDP. Also use a different name for that port too, like Minecraft1 & Minecraft2. Then hit ok.
Lastly: Restart Computer
Your friends should be able to connect to you now. But do a quick restart of your computer. I had all the above info correct but I was still having issues, until I performed a quick restart. This will help 'finalize' the firewall settings probably as well as fix 'wiring' we will say for your router.
I tried to go step by step here. I'm not that much into the technical end of computers. I have just been learning from lots of reading and youtube tutorials. It seems that German Tutorials have the best direction/info; though I personally don't know any German. I just try to follow them as best as possible.
Hope this helps you.

oh cool thanks for the feedback guys. I've honestly only had to port forward my server once. So this tut is based off the experience I had trying to do it and the help I got from the forum and a friend.
Yeah I don't have teamviewer and have never used it. A kid was just messaging me on steam about port forwarding. For some reason when he tries to set up his router with his comp, you know the 192.xxx.x.x to be forwarded, it gives him a message saying that it is illegal:
' im on the port forwarding page and i put in the service name service type and start and ending port and when i put in my serverr ip address a box pops up saying the ip is illegal' - MrNudge
Before he had started to redo the port forward he was able to access his server, but his friends could not, so he was able to do it before. So I told him that his friends needed the external/static IP and a couple sites to use to find it.
I was thinkin maybe there may be a firewall on his router itself...but wouldn't opening the port to his comp bypass it?

Yeah, working on it now, it was a bug with the router, but we got it worked out.

But that is just because the network settings itself (screw you college), I have my personal router port-forwarded.
And I also say if you can't seem to get it, and you *think* you tried everything, I grab teamviewer and look myself, usually gets it done faster.

Have you been able to get it working yet? I did look at your post again and saw some other comments on it, but idk if they helped or not yet.
Cool, glad you were able to help him out. Thanks Ralex.
No, nothing.
Please do!
