Hello everyone, just to let you know this is my first post.
Anyway.. I have been working on my own server just to have like 5-10 friends on. But the main problem is that I just can't figure out how to open/forward the ports so they can start playing and enjoying the game. So I was just wondering if I could get any help with this. I have a PC running on Windows XP Pro. and that has 2GB of RAM and 250GB of HD space, and all of this is dedicated for the use of the server. I have a Belkin F5D9230-4 router, if that helps.
Also, I have watched many videos and been on PortForwarding.com but not on these things work, every time I go to the You Get Signal Port Checker it says that the 25565 port is closed.
Hopefully I gave enough info for a good answer or some good tips on how to fix this.

Step 2: create a new text document and put this in:
@ECHO OFF
IF /I "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE:~-2%"=="64" "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xincgc -Xmx1024M -jar "%~dp0craftbukkit-0.0.1-snapshot.jar"
IF /I "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE:~-2%"=="86" java -Xincgc -Xmx1024M -jar "%~dp0craftbukkit-0.0.1-snapshot.jar"
PAUSE
step 3: save your text document as all files and name it Starter.bat
Step 4: double click Starter.bat and some more files should pop up
Step 5: close Starter.bat go to server properties and put in your ip to find the ip you need with craftbukkit you need hamachi when you have hamachi right click the numbers at the top and copy 1pv4 and paste that to server properties where it says server ip. save it then double click your Starter.bat file.
Hamachi steps:
Step 1: download the unmanaged hamachi from the link i gave you
Step 2: you have to install it double click the fil you downloaded and follow the instructions
Step 3: open hamachi and click network then create network type what you want your network to be called and your password and then click create and your done.
if you don't want a password right click you network and click set access and click the box that says require password to join network. your friends need hamachi to and they need to join your network
Sorry but Hamachi is not an option for good servers.
You need to find the tutorial how to port forward depending on your rooter.
What is your rooter? Perhaps I can find the tutorial for you.

Ok, to port forward you need to:
On Windows:
open start menu and search for cmd
Open and type in ipconfig
go up and search for default gateway
type the default gateway number in your browsers web address space
you will be asked for a password. I'm not sure what the default passwords are, they're here for all routers: routerpasswords.com
Type in the username and the password
I have a linksys router, open up Applications and Gaming and choose Port Range Fortwarding
Now go back to the cmd.exe and look for the first IPv4 address. It should be like 192.168.1.something
Type the last 3 numbers in the column: "To IP address" and click enabled
And save the settings
Now go to ipchicken.com and look up your IP.
Type this in your minecraft ADD SERVER tab
You're done

I have done all that many times, still see no results.
Everyone, can you read the post completely, because it says basically everything I need help with.
Also I have a CraftBukkit Server, and I think Hamachi is a bad idea, and so do a few friends.
I have watched many videos on how to do this, but it just doesn't seem to work for me.
Does anyone have any advice other than stuff I've already tried.
Thanks to everyone that has submitted, I didn't think anyone would reply.
Stay Uber everyone!
I am not sure if I am reading the same thing those other people are reading, but I had this same exact problem, every time I tried to forward the port, the port checker would say closed. It is wrong... I port forwarded from my router ( also My modem just incase) and told one of my friends to connect. I would say have someone try to connect because you can only connect through 127.0.0.1 . just have them connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:25565
Don't use You get signal, i tested it with a port of mine that was open (but not been used :smile.gif:) and it failed. Use one called "pfp portforward" which is free and epic :smile.gif:

Thanks for the recommendation, but I still get errors, it says "We were not able to ping your router" and "Your port is NOT OPEN or not reachable!"
Does anyone know anything else that might work.
I'm having the exact same problem. Except I'm on windows XP home and I have a 2wire 3800hgv-b router.
You using mcforge? or something else?
I hope someone figures this out, I've done everything I can think of but it isn't working. :dry.gif:
I just want people to be able to come on my server.
sorry if I'm bumping an old thread [?], but this problem hasn't seemed to be solved and I can't find anything anywhere that's worked.
