It used to be disabled, and you could get around it by renaming the .jar file to something else. Now it seems it deems it incompatible and disables it no matter what
EDIT #2: Ok, I just noticed that you were running the beta version of MC, and the plugins for very early versions of MC did not work so well. Upgrade to 1.5.2, and you will have no problems.
