I've had this problem for a while that whenever I start my server_start.bat file I get this message:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
In the bat file I've written " java -Xmx1024m -Xms1024m -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui
When I launch it with that it will give me the message above, but if I lower it to 512 Mb it will work perfectly, but with lots of lagging. The server was working before with even more than just 1 gb of ram.
If what I've read is correct the message above means that my computer doesn't have enough space to start java.
But i can't understand how that could be, because when I check taskmanager it says I have only used 1% of the cpu and when I start the server it'll go up to 50% and then down to 1% again.
My system specs are:
Microsoft XP home edition
service pack 3
pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.00GHz 3.01GHz, 2,87GB RAM
32-bit system(just in case you wondered)
I really need help, I've searched all over google, and the minecraft forum search is down!
I apprciate all the help you can give me!
Actually it isn't XP that is stopping you from using your full ram, it is the fact that you are running a 32bit operating system. If you had xp pro 64 bit it would recognize all of your ram.
I would advise ditching xp and install Ubuntu 64 bit. You will get much better performance from it, and you will be able to utlize the full potential of the machine. If you are willing to do a little bit of reading when you run into problems Ubuntu is no harder to use than the windows family of operating systems
