So I was trying to make a nice, easy to remember link for my SMP server and turned to the fine services at tinyurl. For some reason MC doesnt like the tinyurls though. For instance: tinyurl.com/30j9 will take you to 127.0.0.1, your local host. typing 127.0.0.1 into the IP box on MC works just fine but tinyurl.com/30j9 does not go through. I know that other URLs work like dyndns.com. any idea why tinyurl doesnt work?
tinyurl.com/mysuperawesomeserver should work! (warning, i dont know what is at that link).

link shortening services wont work, as they only deal with URLs.
When you type in an IP address or domain name in Minecraft, it is resolved to the appropriate IP address...tinyurl will be resolved to tinyurl.com's IP, which is not the IP of your server.
Use dyndns, buy a domain name, or just give somebody the IP are your options.
OK. I was just curious since i could use the tinyurl.com/30j9 link to access my webserver just fine. 127.0.0.1 would end up in the URL up top. I have a dyndns so I'll just use that. i just thought that tinyurl.com/MyServer would be a little easier for people.
