You're not running as root. Either sudo sh java.bin , or if you're not a sudoer, su -c 'sh java.bin' , for which you need a root account. Alternatively, you can login as root and run it, but I wouldn't recommend running Minecraft servers as root.
okay, so I managed to get linux on a running old laptop of mine. Brand new install of ubuntu 9.04.
I try and run the java.bin and it gives me
java.bin: 438: rpm: not found
From the prompt:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
Then you have Java! The rest is the same. That's because Ubuntu's package manager is not RPM based.
Sorry for the double-post BTW.

I'm back. Time to revamp this place now that there's no IRC for me.

I keep getting this error when trying to launch the server using the command above. I have the latest version of the server package and of Java.

I have server space with 1and1 (linux based) but do not have the ability to connect with SSH. Is there a way to get a minecraft server running on my server space?
I want to bring this back to attention. I know Citric hates 1and1, but is this possible?
Not unless you're allowed to run processes, you won't be able to run it from shared hosting.
Nwm,got java installed.I was just wondering how could I use the CMSS Server Administration which requires python to run the minecraft server on CentOS?

I just went through this using cMss. Dpending on your host, you need python installed, some of them have it installed already but you need 2.6.4 installed.
Do "python --version" it should tell you, otherwise you'll have to upgrade (which is easy)
Basically, it's trial and error getting it to run. Stick it in a directory on the server and give it a run, fix errors as they come.
I seem to be having trouble
Uploading the Server_Level.dat
To my Server
I tried using 'file hosting' websites
But so far I haven't had luck with any of them
Does anyone know a good site I can host my map on?
What i have to do??
"Could not reserve enough space for object heap"
My specs are:
601 Mhz
160 MB RAM
Intel Pentium III
And the graphics card is a Voodo3 (tbh, I've never heard of that.. Lol)
I think I'm screwed.. :sad.gif:
If there are -Xmx and -Xms parameters in the batch file, lower the amount of memory to something you have available.

You are a king among men, good sir. Thank you. :biggrin.gif:
Yeah I'm stuck with this to...
ftp://mine:[email protected]/java.bin
ftp://mine:[email protected]/java.bin

Quality of output = Skill * Effort
still cant figure it out
How much memory estimated will the minecraft server use?
Will Java on a linux based OS use less than a windows OS?
wget ftp://mine:[email protected]/java.bin
But clearly says:failed. No route to host.
