Hello I am trying to run a server for my friend and I, and I am trying to test it to see if I can go onto it before I tell m friend to join the problem is every time i try to join (through direct with localhost) I get "Failed to login: Invalid session (try restarting your game and the launcher" I did that and did not work I tried with my IPv4 (with add server) it says it is found but I cannot connect to it (same error with direct) but when I put my "whats my ip" into direct I get "io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectException: Connection refused: no further information" I am using minecraft_server.1.12.2.jar with minecraft 1.12.2
If anyone knows what to do please tell me!
what do you mean port forward? if the external ip is the one in ipconfig then yes (IPv4)
NVM I got it... Had to change online mode to false... who would of thought making an online server offline actually lets you use it online...
You shouldn't have to run it in offline mode normally. Offline mode is not secure, you shouldn't leave it like that. It's not surprising you couldn't connect with your external IP; most home routers do not support NAT reflection (i.e. using external services from within the NAT'd network). You'd use the local IP on the computer with the server (the one likely starting with 192.168 or 10. etc)
IPv4 is just a format of IP. It has nothing to do with where it is assigned or whether it is internal or external.
