OK. So I have a verizon wireless router (Actiontec by the way) and i added the 25565 port to it and checked it with PFportchecker and it said it was open and ready to use. After that i put the minecraft 1.3.2 server ina folder and checked the properties. I changed what i needed to change and added the ip (192.168.1.4) to the server ip option. Then i opened up the minecraftserver.exe and there were no problems or errors. So I open up Minecraft and i go to Multiplayer and type in the ip which is 192.168.1.4:25565, and then it kept saying that I cannot connect to the server. Then i tried putting in localhost but that didnt help either. So can any1 please help me? All I wanted was to make a server so that me and my one friend can go on and have fun. >
Plz help i have the same problem when i type in "localhost" it says badlogin and in the console says

This is not the same problem, please post your questions into a new thread.
I think I know the problem. Try doing this.make sure ip is blank on server properties. After that make sure you have port forwarded. Then borrow friends computer and connect to it from his comp. If that works then try using the external ip on your mc running server. If that does not work try your internal/local ip. If that does not work then try using localhost in ip field on your mc. If it still does not work then check firewalls. then retry the connection. tell me if that works.

Meh, your average signature. :\ +1 me now for my mediocre signature now.
I have the EXACT same problem but put "localhost" where? and my minecraft server thing has no errors and im using my IP without the :25565 and i also cannot connect with local host or my external IP but i tried to add a word IP i forget what its called the word ip is; destroyercaft.etowns.net
I was running a home server using Comcast and everything has been running fine for the last month. I changed ISPs and, now, it won't work.
I went into the new router and set up port forwarding to direct to the minecraft server, correct port, using both TCP and UDP. I verified in both the router AND my WIndows Firewall that that port is allowed to go through. I verified with some outside programs that test ports and half say it's open, half say it isn't. (Router: Centurylink 660, but it refers to itself as a Zyxel device)
I can connect to the server internally by using both localhost AND the computer's LAN IP address, but any attempts to connect using the external IP address, or my URL pointing to that IP, fail to connect ("Connection Refused: connect").
I am pretty sure it's somewhere between my DNS service and my PC, but cannot pinpoint it.
The server, for its part, never even registers that an attempt at logging in was made.

Did you allow both ports for the Minecraft Server and the Java Binary? Sometime people let through one, but not the other.

Actually, it turns out that particular brand of modem has a file in it that that prevents incoming connections on the ports normally used for Minecraft servers. The only way to bypass it was to telnet into the modem and manually edit the files.
But yes, I had checked the firewalls for both the minecraft server and the java.exe process. But! Now we know what happened. I am back online again and people are able to connect.

If this is the case, you'll need to set up two servers on different ports. Set up one server on 25565 like you've already done... then set up another server on another port (like 25566) Change it's server.properties file to 25566. make sure you can start the server without errors... Then, you'll need to port-forward the new port (25566) to the new computer. Hopefully you are familiar with this process.
So you want me to remove the ip from the server.properties. Now should I leave it blank and leave it as it is and try using "localhost"
If he can't connect to himself via his external IP, then something's messed up in the port forwarding or firewall.
Ok I left the server ip in server.properties blank but its still saying i can't connect

Try setting view-distance to a value of 6 or 7 in your server.properties.
If that doesn't work, then let's check your firewalls.

No, seriously, check it out. It's got content!

What modem did you have to do that on?
