Hey! Me and my friend would make a server. We found a mod we would use, but it's only 1.2.3 so is it possible to find minecraft_server.jar 1.2.3 anywhere?
Considering minecraft.net has the server.jar download right at the download page available to people who haven't paid for the game, are you sure it's illegal? I can see linking to a minecraft.jar as being illegal, not the server.jar though. Notch needs to put a repository for older server.jars on the website...
Yes, considering how much of the community uses mods that are *nudge nudge wink wink* supported by Mojang, I don't understand why they don't have older server jars on the website. I, too, am looking for a 1.2.3 server file, because none of the mods I play with have been updated to 1.2.4 yet. Alas...
I find it odd that MojangAB will "allow" MCNostalgia for downgrading client jars, but not allow us any kind of access to downloading previous server jar's. I am myself setting up a server for friends and I need a 1.2.3 server jar (as 2 of the mods we use is not updated to 1.2.4 or now 1.2.5)
its illegal to give out minecraft.jar not the server the servers are free
actually, heres a quote from the ToS
The One Major Rule
Do not distribute anything we've made. This includes, but not limited to, the client or the server software for the game. This also includes modified versions of anything we've made.

Does that mean that these mods that are made and distributed illegal? They are modified versions of the .jar.
Hm that's interesting. I believe they just put this in so they have control over modding (ex: tell people making hacked modded clients to stop distributing them?). They haven't really hammered down on any harmless mods as far as I've seen.
Ah that makes a lot of sense. I was thinking of the technic modpack at the time of writing, but when I think about it it doesn't distribute the jar. Instead you log in.. and from there the jar's are downloaded from mojang (I think?), and the technic files. Also all the modded stuff is is modpack.jar anyway, which mojang didn't make.
Oh well, I guess I was just not thinking when I wrote that. Also this post/thread is getting thrown off topic. This will be my last post here.
Also, on the note of MCNostalgia - Its completely legal, it doesn't distribute the same .jar file as Mojang created.
EDIT:
Just learned, they asked Mojang for permission
