So I would like to host a Minecraft Java server. I had created the server, ran the server, done the port forwarding. However, after I forward the port, external network people would have to join the server by entering my IP Address and my port number (XX.XXX.XXX.XX:YYYYY)I would like to change this to only needing the user to enter my IP Address and join my server. Do anyone know what else do I have to do, or is there any other methods than using the router. I do not want to use external server provider, and host my own server.
You always need a port number to talk to your server. Some protocols default automatically: http 80, https 443, ssh 22, etc. If you connect via http, for example, you can configure your web server to redirect to another port -- but it still needs a port number to connect to initially. If you're using a Minecraft client, there is no way to get it to connect to a server without specifying a port because it has no way of knowing what port your server is listening on.
