The problem was the isp used NAT for their network ISP when delivering internet and what i got was not a real public ip and therefore it wasn't possible to connect to my router externally, i got stuck in the ISP level. Hope this info helps other people! Easy way to check this is to compare the wan ip on the router and your ip on https://whatismyipaddress.com/
if its not the same then Carrier-grade NAT can be the case (unless it's the modem somehow hogging the public one).
Hello, I am setting up a public server on a dedicated Ubuntu machine. I have been trying at this for over a week now. I have exhausted all possible routs i can find/imagine on what the problem can be. I have scourge the Internet, the FAQ, previous posts and more. I cant seem solve it whats causing the problem. remote connections to the server dosen't work, only get the io.netty connection timed out error(I use the phones hotspot to connect externaly to the server when testing and connecting to the external/public ip of the router(tried both "ip":25565 and just "ip").
Port forwarding:
Using standard port: 25565 and the server ip
(the server ip is set to static in the router as well)
Router model: RT-AC68U
See attached picture
Server.properties:
the server ip is left blank
the port is set to 25565
See attached picture
Internet speed is good
picture is from a wifi conection, The server is connectd via a ethernet cable to the router, there is a switch inbetween server and router fyi.
I tried hosting the server on the laptop with wifi and it dident work either so im thinking its not that. most likely the router side.
See attached picture
server firewall:
the server's fire wall is deactivated, and if for some reson it where to be it I did make exceptions for port 25565 on both udp and tcp
The router is connected to the fiber Internet directly. No other device in between.
I tried checking if the port(25665) was open (while the server was running) and it was NOT. So something is funky here.
I don't know if you did put a prop for the serve address in the port forward screenshot, but 420.69.580.08 is totally wrong. First of all ipv4 addresses have four parts that can go from 0 to 255 so 420 and 580 are out of range. Afterwards, there are usually three ipv4 network blocks that are reserved for “private” networks and they are 10.0.0.0 (with each 0 that can go from 0 to 255), 192.168.0.0 (same) and 172.16-31.0.0.
So you have to find out the real ip of the server (either one tha you assigned statically or one that has been assigned automatically by the router) and put it in the “Internal IP address” field. Than you have to open the port on the server firewall (for a first setup, it's easier to turn the server firewall off altogether as the server is behind the router).
Finally, make sure that if you set the ip address on the server yourself, the gateway address is configured with the internal address of the router (this should happen automatically if you let the router assign the address via dhcp).
Also make sure you can connect to the server using the internal address from a Minecraft game on the same lan (sometimes routers do segregate the networks for security purposes, so if it's the case you need to disable this feature in the router).
Yes, it can. Pinging google.som was possible and more, so it can reach the internet. But i tried pinging the routers external ip from outside the network(the routers ping funktion was enabled) but i dident get a response. So both no respons from the router and when checking the port 25565 from wan it says closed too, any ideas?
EDIT: its more or less the same problem but i dident f*ck up the ip

Did i forget any other info that is useful?
Make sure the Internal IP address matches with "ifconfig" ipv4 address on the terminal of the ubuntu server that you are forwarding.
I run a private minecraft server called Nostalgik Vanilla for ages of 21 and up. Anyone that is interested in it, just contact me

Haha sorry, the ip in the port forwarding picture is just changed for the picture. Its set to a 192.168.1.xxx ip in reality.Sorry about that
And yes the ip in the ubuntu machine is configured to have the static ip only too, and it's possible to connect to the server on LAN.
Have you checked the gateway of the ubuntu machine? Can the machine reach the internet?
Yes, it can. Pinging google.som was possible and more, so it can reach the internet. But i tried pinging the routers external ip from outside the network(the routers ping funktion was enabled) but i dident get a response. So both no respons from the router and when checking the port 25565 from wan it says closed too, any ideas?

https://bukkit.org/threads/cannot-open-port-25565.134926/
The only thing is that it may be the Ubuntu firewall block incoming traffic from the internet. Have you double-checked that?
Hahaaa i solved it(I think), and it wasn't my fault really, as i had no idea about this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT
The ip i got was not a real public ip and therefore it wasen't possible to connect to my router, i got stuck in the isp level.... so stupid.
I haven't tried if it works yet... as the public ip hasen't had time to update from the isp from when i called them(hoping this solves it!).
EDIT: Yep, it was the issue, now it works finally!! hope this info helps other people!
