I'm trying to set up a Minecraft server on AWS Linux for my son's upcoming party. Everything is up and running on the server (seemingly ok), but whenever I try to connect from my Windows 10 client, I get the following error:
Unable to connect to world
Server version: 1.15.2 or 1.14.4 (tried both)
Client version: 1.14.30
Server OS: Amazon Linux (latest as at 01/04/2020)
Client OS: Windows 10 (tried 2 different machines)
Server Port: 25565
Server Java Version: java-openjdk11
The server is a t3.large instance, with 2 CPU's, 8GB RAM, 50GB disk.
I've assigned a static IP address to the server, and added port 25565 to the security group. I can telnet to the port on the server ok from my Win10 machine, so it doesn't seem like a firewall/port forwarding issue. I can also see that the port is open using www.yougetsignal.com .
I'm kind of scratching my head here now, and not sure what else to try. Would really appreciate any help.
Thanks FirEmerald - I thought I'd read somewhere that they were the same thing now, but can't remember where I read that.
I'm pretty sure it's the Windows 10 edition (I downloaded it from the Microsoft Store), but not sure how to double check this. It says v1.14.30 on the startup screen, if that helps.
Looking around, the download location for Windows Server says that's it's only an Alpha release:
even if it is an "alpha release" it should be fine. And Java Edition is separate from Bedrock Edition, which includes Windows 10 Edition, Pocket Edition, Nintendo Switch Edition, and Xbox One Edition.

are you using a java edition client or a windows 10 edition client? they require different servers.

The different version numbers should've already told you they're different.
