I want to start a new server, and I have it already up and running. Purely vanilla. Now, when I go to whatsmyip.com I get some huge long list of crap with a bunch of letters, numbers and colons. When I put that on minecraft servers . org it tells me it's not a valid server host. So.. help? I don't know what to do to let others join my server!
3) You're looking for your IPv4 address, it will say "Your IP is ***.***.***.***", the ***.***.***.*** is your IP.
4) To let others join your server, give them your IPv4 address or setup a SRV record to your server IP and port so that they join join using the domain instead of your IP.

It will tell you both your IPv4 address and your IPv6. If there is still no IPv4 address, then you might be out of luck. But, using a service like FreeDNS and setting up an AAAA record might work.
