I'm running my own minecraft server with thus far just me on it. Can't really open it to anyone else yet as it keeps crashing. Its very easy for me to start it back up again. I just login to the server and re issue the startup command and its happy as a clam. Problem is I can't determine why the server is shutting itself down. To be clear the OS is not crashing but below is what I have thus far from the latest crash.

Any ideas? I realize my "clarification" above does not really clarify much. So as far as I can tell the OS is stable but the minecraft server application keeps shutting down. I'm not exactly sure what console input could be causing the error as shown above as I am in no way interacting with the server when this occurs. As you can see from the error log the server it is hours later in this case that the server app crashed. Is there any other logging I can enable to try and get more details on this? I'd really like to stabilize this.
or some other system where a terminal session may time out?
This is the kind of error that can happen when a connection / session / window / vpn closes due to inactivity and you have a server process running in it.
I think that was it. I had the server started from an ssh session which of course would eventually be shutdown. Is it generally acceptable / advisable to startup the server using screen and then just leave that screen session active all the time?

Thank you in advance,
if you are hosting this on linux. do you have the server running in an instance of screen?
or some other system where a terminal session may time out?

If you want to reconnect and see console output that's a good way.
If you don't need that you can probably launcher the server as a nohup'd background process (assuming linux?)
